  1. Marmol had such a light 1st inning last night, I can reasonably understand why they brought him back out for another. They also might have felt like they could go two innings with him yesterday knowing that rosters expand this weekend. Last night's game was super important to win.
  2. Nope. Cubs made the right move just sending him on down to first. There are guys on teams who you just don't pitch to when there is a base open. Prince Fielder is one of those guys.
  3. I suppose that depends on how much you value a trip to the World Series. Any move made at this time should be with the playoffs in mind. Something needs to be done to put this team in a position to get there. Right now, they aren't good enough. I doubt that Burrell is actually available right now, but things can change in the next two weeks. Victorino and Bourn could be back, which Phily is probably not in a hurry to move him because of those injuries. Just because the Cubs traded for Burrell for the remainder of this season doesn't necessarily mean they would be on the hook for him all of next year, because they could potentially trade him in the offseason. And I'm shocked that Soriano isn't already in RF (at least when he was healthy and playing everyday). This has been the biggest no brainer that hasn't happened yet. He has the speed and arm to play there.
  4. San Diego didn't want Randy Myers. They didn't want the Dodgers or Giants (can't remember which team) to have him, so they claimed him. It sort of worked considering the Padres won the division. But, San Diego did pay Myers for the rest of 1998 for 14 innings of work, and nearly another 14m combined for 1999 and 2000 for 0 innings pitched. Ouch. atlanta? Might be.

  6. Pirates are stocking up for the stretch run. Look out!
  7. I really despise WCIU games. I'm gone for 10 days and haven't a clue what's going on with the Cubs and now I can't watch the game? What's going on? Cubs make any moves? I need the lowdown. I heard Murton is back up. Who got sent down, or did someone go on the DL?
  8. I wouldn't mind Brown or Sanders, although I would probably much rather see them grab Lofton or Stairs. I still favor Lofton the most, even if he lacks pop.
  9. Only if Pittsburgh will include a good power hitter like Aramis like we got in that deal. Hmm. Jason Bay?
  10. I'd love to have Matt back. Maybe we can talk Toronto into taking Eyre. :D
  11. Guess you weren't born yet when the Cubs were tossing out line ups that had both Neifi Perez and Jose Macias batting at the top of the order.
  12. This auditioning for a trade concept is a bit of a reach in my opinion. Professional scouts know what they're looking for in a player and they're not going to get too caught up in a week-10 day audition for a player in the majors. What if Moore or Fox get really hot for a week--does this mean they're now a big time prospect? I don't believe it happens this way. There's also the potential factor, which scouts see in a player like Pie. Yes, his first test was not a success, but it likely only made a small hit on his rating as a prospect. He's still considered the top offensive prospect in the Cubs system. Not to mention the fact the Cubs are currently in a pennant race. As much as I like to see guys improve their trade value, I would certainly hope that winning baseball games is the main factor used in determining who gets the call.
  13. I was both encouraged and perplexed to hear Hendry say yesterday that he felt he had plenty of in-house options going forward, implying Murton and Pie but also specifically mentioning Cedeno and Patterson Oops. I forgot to include Murton. You can probably add Kroeger, Moore, McGehee, Piggy, Patterson and heck, I wouldn't have minded seeing Hoffpauir filling in for Lee for 5 games rather than Fox. I'm not up to date on any injuries with these guys, but these are guys I wouldn't mind filling in when needed.
  14. Moving back to the youth movement, I've been absolutely thrilled that the Cubs have been able to get production from the minor leagues this year. I'm thrilled that Cubs management has given them a chance rather than make stupid trades like giving up minor leaguers for Craig Counsell or some other hack that doesn't help the team. Hill, Marshall, Guzman, Petrick, Marmol, Gallagher, Wuertz, Ohman, Fox, Pie, Fontenot, Theriot, Pagan, K. Hill, Soto and Cedeno is a lot of help. My apologies if I forgot anybody. There are probably others that could help as well, but let's hope that we get everyone healthy and keep this train a rollin'.
  15. I wonder if someone sat down with Jones and explained to him that there is no trade partner and if he continues playing like he has, his playing time will become even more limited and reduces the chances even more that a trade can be worked out? It has seemed to me (and maybe it's only me) that Jones is the one who has been pushing to be traded moreso than the Cubs. And I wonder if Jones playing as poorly as he has is a direct reflection of him wanting desperately to be traded? And I wonder if Jones has figured out that he's pretty much here and if he wants to play, he's going to have to produce? Maybe I'm doing too much wondering, but a hot Jones could give this offense a lift.
  16. Yeah, I guess his outing wasn't as bad as I originally thought. I was only half watching the game yesterday.
  17. I could go along with Floyd at 1st, but how bout calling Pie back up in center, and Jones in right since we dont see any leftys for awhile? Pie as been hotter than Cedeno of late, and offers a little more pop out of the bat. I suggest Cedeno because we are down to just 3 middle infielders, and one of them has been spelling Lee at 1b and platooning with Floyd in RF. Since DeRosa can play an outfield spot and you have Soriano, Jones, Floyd, Fox and Pagan, the need for a middle infielder is more crucial, IMO.
  18. Things have really changed in two months. How Lou kept his composure (for the most part) when this team sucked worse than suck itself is beyond me. I gotta hand it to him. I really like what he's doing.
  19. Sure, why not? It's been 10 years since he's played there, but we aren't asking him to do it for an extended period of time.
  20. It's Cedeno time! Keep showcasing Jones while he's hot. Slide Floyd over to 1b and get Ronny back up here. Now please.
  21. Didn't exactly "earn" that 10th win, but hey, who cares?
  22. I'm pretty much in sell mode, but my trade deadline is Friday July 20th. I'm leaving on vacation Saturday morning and won't be back until August. If anyone is interested in any of my players, make your trade proposals now. I don't really have time to negotiate deals, so I'll likley either approve or refuse any requests.
  23. You'll find out soon enough. You guys still got the better end of the deal in the big picture, though. We only gave up Greg Maddux for Izturis.
