  1. Looking more and more like we'll have Matsui in a Cubs uniform. I wonder if Hendry plans on replacing DeRosa or Theriot with Matsui. Either way, I don't like this idea. Heh. Neither Theriot or Matsui should turn DeRosa into a utility player.
  2. That's pretty vague. Are they interested in Jacque if the Cubs pay his entire salary? If they don't have to give anything up to get him? If the Cubs pay most of his salary?
  3. Assuming that happens, and the Cubs also overbid for Kaz Matsui, I wonder what sort of improvement that will be for the offense. I would also think that this would allow the Cubs a bit more flexibility with the payroll to bring Wood and Prior back, especially if they can find a way to move Jacque Jones. With Pie in CF, Fukudome in RF and Matsui at SS against RH pitchers, they would now have 3 lefty bats in the line up against RHP on a regular basis. I also wonder if the Cubs would move Soriano from the top spot if they had a guy like Fukudome to bat near the top of the order, or if they would go with Soriano and Fukudome 1/2? While none of this is a given, it sure seems like the direction the Cubs are leaning. I don't hate Matsui, but I'm not overly fond of his overall production. But, a platoon of Theriot and Matsui might be better than an everyday Theriot.
  4. First off, welcome aboard. Secondly, what is your overall opinion of the direction the Yankees seem to be moving this offseason? It's obviously not all going to happen, but ARod is as good as gone, Torre is already somewhere else, Pettitte could retire, the Mets are willing to offer the world for Jorge Posada and the only player that looks like they will be back is an ever aging Mariano Rivera. I've also read that the Yankees have no interest in any deals that involve Chamberlain, Hughes or Kennedy, which basically also takes them right out of any sweepstakes for players like Cabrera, Tejada or any other good player that might be available. Can the Yankees be good with Morgan Ensberg at 3b and Jason Kendall behind the dish? :D
  5. Brandon Wood will be a Marlin soon enough. Miguel Cabrera, come on down! Honestly, if I am the Marlins I would ask for Kendry Morales over Brandon Wood. I don't know that much about either prospect but for a guy with Cabrera's talent couldn't they get both? Yes, they could. Anaheim doesn't have much reason not to offer both. That deal would be very beneficial for both teams. Your basic no brainer.
  6. Matsui just becomes the most expensive translator in the world when the Cubs win the Fukudome sweepstakes.
  7. That's exactly word for word something Jim Hendry wouldn't say.
  8. Agreed. Plenty of in house candidates to fill the pen. FIX THE OFFENSE!! I like some of the names bandied about. Fukudome, Crawford, Bradley. My hope is that they bring in some guys who can get on base.
  9. Somewhere Garry Marshall is getting prepared to be traded for Clint Barmes. Penny Marshall must be fair game.
  10. Heh, don't worry about it. We all do it. I made a proposal last year for Barmes as well, but I don't think I was offering up anything near Marshall. Unfortunately, there really does seem to be a major shortage of SS's available at both the major league level and in the high minors. If the Dodgers could somehow swing a deal for Miguel Cabrera or sign ARod, I'd love to explore the possibility of getting Furcal from them. But, they'd probably sit on Furcal for at least one more year to see if their young top SS prospect is the real deal. If I'm the Dodgers, I certainly wouldn't trade Furcal right now.
  11. That very well might have something to do with it. His K rate is more than double on the road compared to at home. His SLG is .100 higher at Coors as well, so he benefited from the spacious outfield.
  12. He just never really did all that much until he started playing in AAA and at SS for the Rockies. If you put Ryan Theriot in AAA in the Colorado Springs, he'd look like the 2nd coming of Troy Tulowitzki. Barmes had a career minor league OPS of 763, which was heavily fueled by his 800+ OPS at Colorado Springs. It would look a lot more like his career major league OPS of 672 if you take away his AAA stats. He was also always old for the leagues he played in.
  13. I believe Ronny Cedeno or Ryan Theriot can be more productive than Barmes without having to give up any talent. The problem with many players in the Colorado system (like Barmes) is that their AAA farm team plays a lot like Coors Field. The stats you see there can't be used as a true measure of a player's ability. Since Hendry has made that mistake in the past (see Jeromy Burnitz), I would hope he's learned his lesson. Clint Barmes career splits home and away show that he's a 125 OPS+ guy in Coors Field and a 75 OPS+ guy everywhere else. That's basically where the dramatic and very emphasized "NO THANKS" comes from.
  14. I have news for the Yankees. They will have to give up the prospects they don't want to give up to get the 3b they want, whether it be Miggy or Miggy. (Tejada or Cabrera). :D
  15. Source? Can't say, so take it for what its worth. I doubt the Cubs have the ammo needed anyways. Sure we do. Stephen Pearce, Nyger Morgan, Neil Walker, Matt Capps and Felix Pie. Oh, what? Huh? Pittsburgh isn't really our AAA ballclub? Oh. Nevermind.
  16. If it was me, I'd have given the award to Ryan Braun. Since it appears that the guy with the most errors wins, Braun should have won it hands down. Meanwhile, Aramis and his measily 10 errors is far too few to even be considered. Wright had more than twice as many.
  17. It is a complete oversight by the committee that determines the GG award that neither Aramis Ramirez or Rafael Palmeiro are 2007 recipients. Thus, the GG award continues its dominance as the most meaningless award known to man.
  18. If health wasn't a factor, I'd be all over getting Baldelli. With Baldelli, you need an extremely reliable and competent 4th outfielder that you can trust to fill in during any Baldelli absences.
  19. Coincidentally, Seattle wants to move Ibanez to DH next year because his defense isn't up to par.
  20. Oops. Maybe Guillen should have exercised his player option with Seattle.
  21. I think I read somewhere that Hunter would like to play for the Nats. Not that I'm so sure the Nats would fork out the cash for him, but he seems genuinely interested in playing there.
  22. Good call. That is very likely. The Giants could also go after someone like Jose Guillen for the other corner.
