  1. Somebody needs to give Sullivan a job. Always liked him.
  2. Other major sports are able to have content on other channels and still maintain their own specialized channels as well. With the sheer amount of soccer leagues, you'd think that soccer would be able to do the same. Bein Sport & GOL TV are still soccer-exclusive. GOL will go away because Fox Sports 2 (FSC) will probably beat them for German league rights. They're starting their Dutch league rights next year as well. So off the top of my head soccer property in the US currently looks like: NBC - EPL (starting next season), World Cup, MLS (split). Fox - Champions League, Dutch Eredivisie (next season), EPL (this season only) GOL TV - German Bundesliga, various south american competitions Bein Sport - Spain's La Liga, Italy's Seria A, France's Ligue 1, USMNT road qualifiers minus the Mexico game) Univision - Liga Mex (split) Galavision - Liga Mex (split) ESPN - MLS (split), USMNT friendlies and home qualifiers + Mexico away game, EPL one game a week (this season only) So there's more soccer than ever on more platforms than ever and the niche that existed for soccer-exclusive channels is being cannibalized by Bein Sports seemingly bottomless checkbook. All of this = soccer rights being more expensive than ever and more viable on major channels than ever.
  3. Fox Soccer Channel is changing formats from all soccer content to Fox Sports 2. While this is a sign of the proliferation of soccer on other platforms/channels and ultimately a very positive reflection on how the sport doesn't need to be boosted up by specialized channels because it can survive being just another major sport in the cable sports portfolio, I can't help but be bummed out. FSC carried the torch for soccer in this country before that seemed like a good idea financially for a long time.
  4. The Toronto FC Story: How To Take A Good Thing and Ruin It Ryan Nelsen is their new manager. Ryan Nelsen plays for QPR. Ryan Nelsen plays for New Zealand. Ryan Nelsen will not play for Toronto FC (yet). Ryan Nelsen will not be attending the rookie combine because he will be playing for QPR. Ryan Nelsen will not be attending the MLS Draft because he plays for QPR. What the [expletive] is happening? Kevin Payne clearly thinks he can be the personnel guy and Nelsen the x's and o's guy, but how many times does TFC have to flip the bird to it's fantastic fans before they just stop showing up? This is ridiculous and will fail miserably.
  5. True, but even accounting for the whole "US players are late bloomers" thing, I don't see it. Ream made sort of sense because he plays the ball on the desk and is a soft defender, aka exactly what Arsenal appear to value. Sapong is all tools right now. Don't get me wrong, I don't see it either. That's what I was saying, he's not only not good enough, but he doesn't fit Arsenal's model of talent acquisition either. It's absurd.
  6. Dude is 24. Aka a year younger than Mike Bradley and Messi.. He's not exactly a youth prospect.
  7. ... and he scores in his debut after only 7 minutes. I know it's only non-league Mansfield, but it's a nice start. My point wasn't that he isn't good. He's just not worth nearly twice Demba Ba. Great piece of business from Chelsea. There's a hard to believe rumor going around that Arsenal are lining up a bid for CJ Sapong. The MLS players they've been interested in (Ream) are kind of baffling. Also, Zusi & Agudelo are trialling at West Ham.
  8. Despite the great form individually and on the league table, I don't like Clint on Spurs. That O doesn't flow. I'd like to see him elsewhere.
  9. Just so I'm clear, Liverpool paid 12m pounds to Chelsea for Daniel Sturridge, and Chelsea turned around and bought Demba Ba for 7m? This actually just happened? What a joke.
  10. Osvaldo Alonso is trailing with West Ham. They're trying to buy him (obviously - he's really really good) and he wants to play for the US.
  11. Lol, Nate Robinson guarding someone for a minute is a stretch. Let alone starter's minutes. I presume you guys are all on board with this division lead? Just let Thibs keep doing his thing because there is no reason they should be this good.
  12. 33 seconds of the 1924 US Open Cup final: http://deadspin.com/5969531/?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow Pretty amazing. Check out that crowd.
  13. Jozy keeps ringing that bell. http://eredivisielive.nl/video/102947-piero-altidore-koelbloedig-met-afwerken.html

  15. HOLDEN RETURNING IN A RESERVE MATCH TONIGHT, EVERYONE SAY PRAYERS FOR HIS FRAGILE BODY.
  16. Look at Jozy just bullying these dudes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=D-qHv-EPvSA http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iXk4RQ4YEEQ
  17. The Timbers are in for Mix Diskerrud?! That's awesome for them. I'm starting to come around on Gavin Wilkinson. Moved up in allcoation yesterday, uses it to nab one of the brightest young attacking midfielders in the US pool. Caleb Porter worked well with him for the u-23's. Really impressed by this signing if it goes through. Caleb Porter's fingerprints are already all over this team.
  18. Y'ALL READY 4SUM HOTT MARCUS TEAGUE AXION 2NITE?!
  19. He'll probably end up on the Lakers along with D. Williams for Gasol and some Laker bench trash.... They'd be better off trading for Adelman.
  20. KEVIN LOVE WANTS OUT OF MIN SOMEONE DIAL HIS NUMBER AND HAND THE PHONE TO DERRICK. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--kevin-love-remains-unsure-about-timberwolves--future-200009299.html;_ylt=AoDj_g2aOkq7lmawuUdLMNO8vLYF;_ylu=X3oDMTN1M3VoOWdlBG1pdANGRUFUVVJFRCBNZWdhdHJvbiBOQkEEcGtnA2RkNTk5NjM2LThiZDctMzgzZi04Y2Y2LTA0NGFlZTBmMDVkYQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDbWVnYXRyb24EdmVyAzIwZTZiNDgzLTQzZGQtMTFlMi1iYWZiLWY3YjFmNDFmOGVlZg--;_ylg=X3oDMTFoNjVvZWVyBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANuYmEEcHQDc2VjdGlvbnM-;_ylv=3
  21. Benny Felhaber to SKC means either Zusi to Europe or the classiest central mf pairing in MLS history. Oh to be a forward on that team.
  22. Looks like he isn't cap tied yet, are they trying to flip him? Yeah, he's on the radar. He and Shawn Parker for Mainz.
  23. This Aron Johannsson kid can flat score. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AW-N2FALAo&feature=youtu.be Dirty.
  24. Clint has been their best and most consistent player for 4 games straight. Also, we don't talk US keepers much, but Brad Guzan has been on a great run of form for Villa. One of the best in the league this season. Kljestan is having a great season, so is Boyd, Jozy, Cameron, Jones, the 5 guys at Tijuana...its been a really good year for yanks abroad.
  25. Aka a Friday evening for Kevin Love.
