You're right about talent winning out all except Donovan, but Donovan's exclusion isn't a small gesture. It's not about Green, Chandler or any of the young guys making it. It's about Brad Davis. Brad Davis can swing in a wicked cross with his left as good as just about anyone, but everything else? Experience? Landon. Speed? Landon. Athleticism? Landon. Versatility? Landon. Goals? Landon. PK's? Landon Confidence? Landon. Reputation? Landon. This is shattering. This is a complete paradigm shift in an instant. Micro view - Landon has to be on this team. Macro view - the entitlement, lack of ambition, lack of desire and comfort with the status quo begins and ends with Donovan and if you want to make institutional change happen at the player level, leaving him off does just that. I see both sides, but I still can't get my head around it. Expect his international retirement within a few hours. The only reason to bring Brad Davis in over Landon Donovan is to send a message and after all he's done, it's hard to see Landon be the head on that pike. That said, everything that fans have complained about him for his entire career is exactly why he's not on that plane. Happy for Wondo and Davis, two guys who have been excellent in relative obscurity for years.
