  1. You're right about talent winning out all except Donovan, but Donovan's exclusion isn't a small gesture. It's not about Green, Chandler or any of the young guys making it. It's about Brad Davis. Brad Davis can swing in a wicked cross with his left as good as just about anyone, but everything else? Experience? Landon. Speed? Landon. Athleticism? Landon. Versatility? Landon. Goals? Landon. PK's? Landon Confidence? Landon. Reputation? Landon. This is shattering. This is a complete paradigm shift in an instant. Micro view - Landon has to be on this team. Macro view - the entitlement, lack of ambition, lack of desire and comfort with the status quo begins and ends with Donovan and if you want to make institutional change happen at the player level, leaving him off does just that. I see both sides, but I still can't get my head around it. Expect his international retirement within a few hours. The only reason to bring Brad Davis in over Landon Donovan is to send a message and after all he's done, it's hard to see Landon be the head on that pike. That said, everything that fans have complained about him for his entire career is exactly why he's not on that plane. Happy for Wondo and Davis, two guys who have been excellent in relative obscurity for years.
  2. Seriously, guys. Brad Davis beat out Landon Donovan. Fuckin hell.
  3. That's exactly what this is. John Brooks, Yedlin, Green and to a lesser extent Chandler and Mix are all about 2018. Wow. This is crazy. Then again, blowing up the status quo is why Jurgen was hired.
  4. Holy [expletive]. Wow. His lack of desire finally cost him with the National team. [expletive] me.
  5. Great reflection on the modern USMNT and what could be the end of an era at this World Cup. http://grantland.com/features/usmnt-world-cup-2014-landon-donovan-clint-dempsey/ Having big players at big clubs will strip away the accessibility and relatabity that has defined the US Internationals for so long and separates it from our other sporting obsessions, but, hey, we'll win more games.
  6. Jay Heaps has produced some serious talent up there. Too bad they're backed by the worst owners in the league. Give them some support, give their fans a better environment and community and they'd be a potential dynasty.
  7. USS and other MLS heads: Who is the better prospect, Diego Fagundez or Luis Gil? NE moved Andrew Farrell to center back and I feel pretty confident saying that is extremely bad news for Omar Gonzalez and John Brooks as it relates to Russia 2018.
  8. It's gotta be weird to be hired at one of the best positions in your profession and basically have your replacement forced on you as an assistant.
  9. The kid Juventus keep making offers for, Erik Palmer-Brown, just gave up a penalty and earned two yellows in his SKC debut vs Chicago. Yikes.
  10. It won't be like NFL preseason in that good players will get bigger minutes than just a few series, but they definitely will be going at preseason effort/speed. I wouldn't go to that game. If I were you, I'd save the money and check out a Chicago Fire game vs a good team like Seattle, Salt Lake, New York etc or wait for one of the big European clubs to come around.
  11. Yeah, it was great, if not a little too much pandering to the casual fan. Liked it. If you guys aren't watching the Benny Feilhaber show, you're pretty much missing out on life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGVXjcOfj04&app=desktop
  12. It's tough because Brad Evans and he are everything the other is not. Evans bleeds for the team, fits in anywhere, brings it every day and works his ass off. He's just too slow to hang in this GoD.
  13. Been thinking about this since the roster was released. If he brings it in camp, you have to take him. He's the best right back in the pool on the club level and his size and speed matches up vs Ghana, Ronaldo and Germany better than anyone on the roster. He has experience and understands the germans and what they'll try to do. I think he's on the plane as long as Jurgen thinks team chemistry can handle it.
  14. Alejandro Bedoya leading Nantes fans in "I Believe."

  16. Reading the details on the media deal. Obviously the digital rights thing is a bummer and Fox beating NBC is a bummer, but I do like finally having destination MLS nights rather than bouncing the national matches all over the weekly schedule. I think that's a big deal.
  17. Stoke and Agudelo mutually terminated their contract after a final work permit denial by the FA. Multiple Dutch and other European clubs interested in him on a free.
  18. ESPN isn't even going to broadcast an MLS game until after the World Cup this season, which is essentially them holding the stance that haters take re: games not mattering until the playoff chase, which is ultimately kind of true in MLS, but doesn't matter to fans. That's not how you treat a property you value. I really get the sense that the only reason ESPN did this is because without the EPL rights and without the World Cup rights for the foreseeable future, they had to have some kind of soccer property in order to stay relevant. England, Spain and Germany are owned by BeIn, NBC and FOX, so they are left with what's left. Ultimately, I guess I'm fine with whatever makes MLS more valuable in the long run, but losing MLS Live sucks big time. I don't get ESPN 3.
  19. Wait, that's part of it? ESPN 3? So no more MLS LIVE? That's [expletive] [expletive]. They gain ground and popularity by being fan friendly with and making their content available affordably, they're cutting edge with their digital content and they sell out all of that progress just to get in bed with "traditional" media to feel more legit? That's horse [expletive]. Fox...they suck and I don't want to hear Gus Johnson calling a Seattle v Portland club banger, but whatever. If NBC doesn't pony up, that's on them.
  20. We did one of these last time around with Australia. Very low key, lots of subs etc.
  21. Sounds like the US and Belgium will be playing a friendly in Brazil right before the WC starts like we did vs Australia in South Africa.
  22. I haven't watched Sunderland in a few months, but I am completely surprised they survived relegation.
  23. Aaaaaand Dzeko murders the dreams of every Liverpool fan in the world.
  24. HO. LEE. [expletive]. Though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on. Yikes.
  25. It's official: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2014/05/01/copa-america-will-be-held-us-soil-in-2016 Man that's going to be awesome. Our team is going to be great with vets still young enough to contribute and youth maturing another two years after the WC. Messi is going to have perhaps his last chance to win a major trophy for Argentina and cement his legacy, Suarez will be in his prime...this is going to be awesome.
