  1. Personally, I think he still has to prove that he IS a #2. What more does he have to do? He was probably the best pitcher on the Cubs last year. For starters, he has to win more than 11 games. Granted he had poor run support last season, but a #2 starter needs to do better than 11 wins regardless of run support. I like Rich Hill, but I agree that he still has more to prove to be a solid #2 starter. If you were being sarcastic, please disregard.
  2. Exactly. There's no way he can be this stupid. Right? You don't bench a guy and then leave him off the postseason roster if you plan on having him around next year. Come on, guys. Think about it. This makes zero sense. Unless of course hes planning on trading him as Rosenthal postulates. This is a good point. What if Hendry sees the purse strings pulling shut by December as the sale gets closer and he's trying to stockpile trading chips. Granted this particular trading chip is closer to a buffalo chip. It's also hard to imagine Jim with any kind of gameplan.
  3. I agree, if it means we are going to be a perinnial threat for the WS...I'd suffer Ads on the front and back of the jersies, the name of the latest internet casion mowed into the OF grass, an inflatable Gecko flying above the stadium, and Viagra signs wallpapering the outfield walls instead of ivy. I love Wrigley with a passion, but I love the Cubs even more. It's about time we win and win often.
  4. I hope every single person in NY, including sportswriters and people close to Arod share your opinion and let Arod hear about it all day every day until he signs with us.
  5. Lol, thank goodness somebody caught on. I was starting to wonder what else I needed to do to tip it off. Thanks, Davhern!
  6. GEOVANY SOTO is offended. Soto did some good things, and he is clearly our catcher next year, but he batted .167 for the series with one hit. I know that hit was a home run, and he did look like our tallest midget, but let's not make his series out to be better than it was.... Arent we past the days using batting average as the know all be all stat? His OBP for the series was near .400, so lets not make batting average more meaningful than it really is... Ok, pal...how about these stats. He only had 2 RBI! I'm sure his CERA sucked, too! How many games did we win when he started? Zero! He obviously doesn't know how to win. He batted 7th, if he were any good at all don't you think Lou would have moved him up? This craze for Soto is out of control. Brad Ausmus will be a free agent this year. Hector Villenuava is an option too. ARam had 0 RBI. Dump him!! Agreed, RBI is the most important stat by far. Then Night Games started, then sacrifice bunts, then batting avg. Those are the only 4 you need.

  8. Not sure about that one. I'm fine with what we have now. Why spend the money it'll take to get a starter. Spend it on offense, the pitching isn't the problem. Yeah, we have plenty of options for pitching next year. Z, Lilly, Hill for sure. Then fill out the final 2 spots with Prior ( ), Marshall, Gallagher, Marmol, Hart, Marquis ( [-X ), ?Guzman?, maybe even Veal if he can rebound. I think we should focus completely on upgrading 2 of SS, RF, CF. I agree completely. I hope we have the funds and smart GM to do these things.
  9. Same, 2003 + 2004 scarred me. Now I just go numb when the inevitable happens.
  10. Falling behind Young is just a great idea, Ted.
  11. 7 Ks through 4, Doug Soapy Davis...why am I even watching this?
  12. Great half-inning there. Almost makes the 98 look like a competent playoff team. This is embarassing.
  13. Hey Guys! Frank Caliendo has a new show!
  14. Cuban has to make it happen somehow. I have a dream where the Chicago Cubs, using "cutting edge" (as if they haven't been around a long time), statistical bases for their personnel and on field decisions routinely beat the tar out of all the other clubs that are run by "Baseball Guys". I want to see all of the closeminded sport's writers come up with headlines like "Computer Nerd Dynasty - Just Dumb Luck". I want to hear Joe Morgan say things like, "obviously their methods aren't working because it took them 6 games to win the Series. If they were so good, why didn't they sweep?" I want us to be the team that punishes the baseball world for the next 10 years for being so opposed to change and new ways of thinking. I also want to see Cuban run on to the field to chastise Angel Hernandez.
  15. Now thats sarcasm right? Yes, apparently something I am not good at conveying. Sorry for the confusion. LOL...nice FF reference though. There is a fear factory in this division! Yes! Glad to see other FF fans around.

  17. Player A: 266/387/556 (2007); 249/381/511 (career) age 27 Player B: 291/336/520 (2007); 272/324/470 (career) age 31 Player A, please. Way to cherry pick stats! You conveniently left off the most important ones. Ks, Zone Rating, RBI, and BA w/ RISP. Are you saying all of those stats are more important than OBP, or OPS? I am saying that they are the most important stats and that only computers value OPS (which is a made up stat Billy Beane is using to trick people). Also Fear Factory is awesome, but also only if you are a computer.
  18. Actually, I just now fully read what you wrote. Is this sarcasm?

  20. Yep, but what I was wondering is if anyone know of a week by week or month by month breakdown to see if we actually are hititng into a lot more DPs lately or if it's just my weak mind playing tricks on me.
  21. If you're like me, you've been wanting Dunn for a long time. I'm guessing the odds of his coming here voluntarily are negatively impacted by this. Id just assume not have another guy whose going to strike out every other at bat. Id like to have a guy who hits 266/387/556. But you keep worrying about those strike-outs while our contact hitters keep rolling into double plays. Amen! There have been quite a few at bats in the last 2 or 3 weeks that I would have gladly had end in a strikeout as opposed to what actually happened. Anybody know where I can find any metrics on GiDPs for the season? It sure feels like they have gone through the roof lately.
  22. So should have the 2004 Cubs. Probably the worst product of the 2003 season was the 2004 expectation. Man, that team was loaded, and I was as excited about Cubs baseball as I had ever been. Yeah, Spring Training of 04 was probably the peak of my excitement and expectation levels. When we snagged Nomar I had visions of the Cubs winning the first round of the playoffs in 3 blowouts. I think that's why 05 and 06 stung so bad. This year, I want us to make the playoffs pretty badly. Yes we may get blown away. However, the offense (as poorly assembled as it is) has vastly underachieved. If Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Derosa, and Floyd (yes it's a stretch) get moderately hot and maintain it through the playoffs, we could really do some damage. Lilly has shown he can put up a quality start against pretty much anybody and Z/Hill always have the capability to shut teams down. Beyond anything else, if we make the playoffs this year it means that nobody else from the central did. We are still a crap team, but at least then we'd be kings of crap. Kings of crap > middle crap. I'd rather be bottom crap than middle crap, at least we'd get a good pick.
  23. I don't. This brand of "boring" baseball is fine by me. Agreed. I hope we win every remaining game in this non-competative manner.
