  1. Just saw a nice feature on Chicago Comcast Sports Net. It was all about the Cubs hiring this "field guru" of sorts from the White Sox, to re-do Wrigley. This person-- and for the life of me, I can't remember his name BUT this dude is supposed to be the best in the business. Gail Fischer said something like this guy has worked on something like the last 4 of 6 World Series champions...so are the Cubs next?
  2. Wow, what a suprise. I wonder if his stats started to slowly decline after his collision with Prior? It certainly appeared to affect Prior in many different ways...or so it seemed. Oh sorry, I saw this posted on ESPN News.
  3. As Back to Banks mentioned, if the Cubs were to find something of value for Dempster, and trade him and would find that situation to be interesting, seeing how Ryan would prefer to be starting, rather than being a closer. I don't know how much service time Dempster has in the Majors-- so I doubt he would have any say in the matter.
  4. I'm with you. Next to Spring Training and the regular season-- "Hot Stove" is my favorite time of year!
  5. Ken Davidoff writes "Three teams that Mariano Rivera can use for leverage Cubs. They could use an upgrade over Ryan Dempster, and Lou Piniella shares Yankees blood with Rivera". --- As Davidoff points out certainly Mariano Rivera would be an upgrade over Ryan Dempster...yes that's true but so what? Anybody would be better than Dumpster. Maybe the Cubs could talk to Glendon Rusch about coming out of retirement. What are your thoughts? Do you think the Cubs will at least make an offer? http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny- spstretch215426272oct21,0,5348816.story
  6. Sorry if this has been posted already but what can I say? I'm bored and I can't wait till Spring Training. I did find this interesting however. Apparently Tori Hunter would most like to play for the Nationals or Braves because of the large African American populations in those cities. It appears that Hunter would like to take an active role in the Black community. Good for him. I think that's great. Chicago certainly has a the large African American community and Jaque Jones is his buddy...but I don't think the Cubs will be interested. What y'all think? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  7. Way to go Joe! You've just added 10 more years to your life. Steinbrenner is such a jerk. Nice to see Lou to be so quick to tell the media that he's not interested in the Yankee job.
  8. Lord of Khemennu wrote: "The only thing I would consider remotely similar between the two teams are that they are wild card teams. I don't see much of a comparison between them". Are you kidding me? In 2003, towards the end of the season and right into the playoffs the Marlins dominated practically everyone, which included the Giants, Cubs, and Yankees. Florida might not have been on the type of roll as Colorado as been on this year but like the Rockies, the Marlins always found a way to win in unexpectant fashion.
  9. Derwood wrote: "I'm pretty sure the Marlins had better pitching". Yeah Derwood, I was thinking the same thing. For the life of me though I can't remember their rotation. I remember Willis, and I think Redman was part of it but that's all I can think of.
  10. Cybercub wrote: "I'd take Mazzone over Rothchild any day". --I wouldn't. I will never understand why people just don't appreciate how good of a pitching coach, Larry Rothchild is.
  11. As has been pointed out nobody has had such a higher winning percentage than the Rockies, what has it been 19/20 or 20/21? Still Colorado in many ways remind me of the 2003 Florida Marlins, it didn't matter what the opposing team did that year, that Marlin team always found ways to beat you. What do y'all think?
  12. As UMF points out, timing is everything. Good luck to the Indians or Red Sox... I don't think there's any team right now, NL or AL that can beat the Rockies.
  13. It's true that you never know but it's too bad we didn't win more games during the regular season. It sure would have been great to have home field advantage. It's certainly not a guarantee we would have faired better but late in the season we were playing great at Wrigley and were a hard team to beat. It would have been nice for the players to have the fans cheering their every move. The 2007 Rockies remind me a lot of the 2003 Marlins, although I think the Rox are hotter team than Florida.
  14. versus the Rockies. Just heard on ESPN that of all the playoff teams this year, only the Cubs had a winning record against Colorado. Go figure. I do know however, that if the Cubs were to play them now-- they wouldn't stand a chance.
  15. Wow, what a suprise but I thought that (maybe with the exception of the John Scherholz announcement) MLB/Selig wasn't allowing any team announcements until after the WS?
  16. Maybe this is old news but I found this article interesting. Apparently he has already interviewed with the Reds. Even if he doesn't get the position, I think he has done a fairly decent job as an analysist on ESPN. I certainly like him more than Bob Brenley, Joe Morgan, and Cal Riken Jr. What do y'all think? http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071011&content_id=2261852&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  17. Yeah, I know the Cubs have other needs but Nathan is a stud. What type of package would it take for the Cubs to get him. Check out the article from Ken Rosenthal. "Rather than trade left-hander Johan Santana, the Twins might be better off moving closer Joe Nathan, whom they could replace internally with righty Pat Neshek... the Yankees might be first in line for Nathan if they lose Mariano Rivera as a free agent. The Mets could not ignore Nathan, either, even with closer Billy Wagner signed through 2009 . http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7315170
  18. ...It was a nice ride. Sure I'm disappointed we lost, like everyone else I thought we would win this series-- even though the D'backs had been playing a lot better than we had been playing in the last month. I'm not suprised we lost to Arizona but I am suprised we got swept. It was a great year. I can't wait till 2008!
  19. Mainly for my father who died in 2001. Sept. 24th I turned 50, and a Cub WS would be one sweet present! Just think about all the healing that would bring about to so many Cub fans all around the world!!!
  20. As of today, only 10 days until Sori is activated from the DL. He'll be just the spark we need to make a little run.
  21. That's too bad Brew Crew. When you wake up tomorrow morning, the Cubs will have taken over sole posession of first place.
  22. Sweet Swinging Billy wrote: "I think this would really add a little excitement to the current roster, given all the little intangibles that "Smidj" brings to the team". jersey cubs fan wrote: "Please explain". What I mean by "little intangibles" (and this is just my opinion) is Smidj's appearance and his past history. Jeff S. is a big guy, wears his hair long and has a swagger. The fact that as a Senior wide receiver on the Notre Dame football team, he was being considered as one of the top picks in the draft. He just brings a lot to the table. Even though he would only be a rookie, I think his presence would be very uplifting for the team.
  23. Cynosure wrote: "Homer in the Gloamin" ---Yeah I was thinking about that. That for sure would be listed, possibly #1. Still hoping that someone will post what the "Top Cub Home Runs" are.
  24. Man, this is interesting I was just wondering the same thing earlier this morning. I think this would really add a little excitement to the current roster, given all the little intangibles that "Smidj" brings to the team PLUS I trust that Lou would put him in a situation where he could succeed and that he wont overwork his arm. I say do it Cubs!
