  1. I'm BUMmed, I had a real witty commit that has now disappeared :( Now I just have an ill conceived play on words to add to this thread.
  2. The Cubs are just stock piling middle relievers so they have what the Reds want for Griffey :) After the trade the Reds will go with no set starting rotation and just rotate all of their pitchers with each throwing 3 innings at a time. It may be unconventional, but it was the only way they could fit more middle relievers on the roster.
  3. I would have to say Right Foot as well. However, it isn't that big of a deal I don't think. But technically it is quicker and less likely to trip over the base using the right. I was always told the left foot was better but not to over think it. I think the left foot would be quicker since it would force you to turn faster. If using the right foot it would be easier to drift more toward the outfield as you round the base.
  4. If you are talking from a 1st basemen’s perspective, it should be the foot opposite your catching hand.
  5. I didn't look this up to be sure and could be wrong, but I think he was part of the Chris Young for Adam Eaton trade. That was one bad trade for Texas if I remember right.
  6. I doubt he wanted to hit Lee in the head either. But I do think he was wanting to hit him high in the ribs and the ball got away from him a little bit. When making a point, it would be best to throw at a hip so if you miss by a little it will hit the ribs or thigh. That was at least the way I was taught. It is surprising how much harder it is to throw a ball that far out of the strike zone where you want it to go than one thrown in the strike zone. I never had the best control to start out with though so maybe that just applied to me :)
  7. LOL, I'm not convinced that Maddux wouldn't but I don't think either starter will. Maddux wont. And if he does, it wouldnt hurt. I think Maddux would if needed, but it would be at the players hip or ribs and no higher. There are times when it is appropriate to throw at some one but it is never appropriate to throw any where near someones head. I just don't see Maddux doing it because (maybe i'm naive, but) I think he has a great enough respect not only for this team, but people such as Lee that he wouldn't throw at us. If someone from the Padres hits us, it's gonna be a guy from the Pen. Sometimes it is not about respect for the other team or player, it is respect for your own team and people you play with. Maddux wouldn't throw at someone to hurt them but to make a point. I don't expect Maddux to throw at someone today but if Cubs pitchers hit two Padres I can see it happening. The first would make them even, the second would be to much and need a response. I doubt much of anything will happen today though since the game is to important and the last thing the Cubs need is to lose any more players.

  9. more here. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070611&content_id=2019342&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc I hope somebody askes Wolf why he decided that with 2 strikeouts in the first inning, nobody on and an 0-2 count would be a perfect time for Lilly to hit a batter. people keep saying this and I don't know why. it was a 2-0 pitch. I have no doubt in my mind it was intentional, just as there is no doubt in my mind Hudson's was intentional. that element isn't even needed to question exactly what the umpires were thinking and coming to the conclusion that they were out to screw the Cubs. what someone should ask is why Tschida wasn't "expecting it" the night before. if you're going to pre-judge one team, you should pre-judge the other. what also must be asked is why Wolf issued warnings, then decided to kick Lilly out after escorting Renteria to first. I missed that start of the game and all of the events that lead to Lilly's getting kicked out but everyone has said it is a 0-2 count including newspapers. Cubs starter Ted Lilly had no idea what that something was, but quickly found out when his 10th pitch of the game, an 0-2 inside fastball, hit Atlanta shortstop Edgar Renteria and caused both benches and bullpens to empty. It was an ejection, much to Lilly's surprise. are you sure it wasn't a 0-2 count? Seems like a big detail to be missed by everyone but you
  10. This could turn into a "Which came first, the chicken or the egg argument" The Cubs should not draft position players high because they do not develop them well. The Cubs do not develop good position players because they do not draft them high. I know the Cubs have had some bad luck with a few position players they have drafted but they have been focusing on pitchers more. At some point it could become a self fulfilling prophecy. You have to trust your scouts and take the best player you can.
  11. I'm guessing Aumont speaks French and has learned English as a second language. With that in mind, I don't think he did that bad.
  12. per ESPN's request. you really think it takes the NFL teams all 10 minutes to make their picks? No way, but ESPN has to get their highlight reels and talking heads air time between picks NFL teams negotiate possible trades during their time though. Why was Price hanging out with Dusty Baker? Price probably walked up to him and said "Dude, weren't you the guy on deck when Aaron broke the record?"
  13. I can see that. Vitters projects as a David Wright comming out of high school. I thought Vitters was a little bit of a question mark defensivly at 3B? I can see him being a similar hitter from what I have read though.
  14. What the hell?!? No way, if they let him off with nothing I'll be pissed. How is this different from when Bobby Valentine got kicked out but returned to the dugout in cognito? Didn't he get a few games suspension for that? This is the identical same thing, no question about it. I'm guessing that was Sarcasm
  15. yes, but I can't remember who? I could be wrong but I think it was Aram and DeRosa
  16. I guess they make you feel like putting on a pair of high heels, a tube top and going down and joining them? If that is how it makes you feel don't be afraid to share. We are all open minded people around here for the most part and will not judge :)
  17. substitue "she-male, muscular type" with tall and athletic and no one would care. I would agree and like an athleticly built 5'10" 145lbs women betterthan a 5'2" 95lbs women any day. Sound like the petite stripper was disgruntled ARod didn't go for the wafe type and missed the chance to make some money. edit: This is why I only have 57 posts, I always get beat to the punch and EJ basically covered what I was trying to say.
  18. and here it is Rule 2.00 (Catch) Comment: A catch is legal if the ball is finally held by any fielder, even though juggled, or held by another fielder before it touches the ground. Runners may leave their bases the instant the first fielder touches the ball. which brings me back to my original question, how on earth do two runners both leave early. I have a hard time believing the events described above happened to anyone other than a Cubs team. I can't remember much other than I saw it on one of those highlight type shows that had strange plays. I do not remember where the runners were exactly either. Maybe it was 1st and 3rd and the guy on 1st was stealing or trying to make it to 3rd on a ball he thought was going to drop but was caught. The guy on 3rd thought it would drop too and ran home or did not try to go back to 3rd when he saw that the guy on 1st was going to be thrown out by a mile. I think it might have been the Astros but really do not remember.
  19. I'm pretty sure the rule is that the runners can tag and advance as soon as the OF touches the ball, not catch it. This was put in place to stop exactly what you are talking about from happening. I could be wrong though and I'm sure someone else here will know for sure.
  20. Thanks for the info. I and a few others thought that this was the case but a few other people on the team thought we were nuts.
  21. I had an odd question that came up when talking to a few friends and didn't know where to look for answers. I thought someone here might know. I remeber several years ago in a game a team scored a run before the third out was recorded on a player that did not tag up on a fly ball or something similar at least. If the manager had appealed before the last player left the field the run would not have counted. For example, if there are runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and neither runner tagged up on a fly ball. The runner on third crosses home plate before the runner on 2nd base is called out for leaving the base early by the other team throwing to 2nd base and touching the base. Would the team on the field also need to throw the ball and touch 3rd base as an appeal that that runner also left early? We all remember something happing like this several years (probably 10 or more) ago but could not remeber exactly why. Any help would be great and sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. Thanks
  22. His ERA went from terrible to awful with those starts. There's no point in taking them out. I didn't say his ERA went from bad to good. I was just saying why taking those two bad starts out with out taking out his two best could be justified.
  23. I think the main point is, if Marquis had pitched at any other time other than a day after the bullpen had been over used, he would have been pulled from the game after a few innings and never have allowed all those runs to score. The reason it should be treated as an outlier is not because he got shelled. It is because an out of the ordinary accurance the day before allowed him to give up a larger than normal amount of runs because he was left in the game longer than any pitcher normally would have had to be. He took one for the team twice and it had a negative effect on his ERA. I haven't looked close at the games and if he gave up all the runs in the first but pitched 4 scoreless innings after then the above would not apply.
  24. I remember seeing Billy Koch hit 93 mph on a slider while he was pitching for Toranto. His fastball was also at 102 so it could have just been a fast gun.
  25. When I was in little league I had a great fastball but had little control. I pitched against a few teams that only had the 3rd and 4th or maybe the 2nd, 3rd and 4th hitter take a swing. My control was bad but I still had several at bats where I put 3 straight across the plate and the kid never took the bat off his shoulder. I can understand the coach teaching kids to be selective but what fun could it have been go to bat 3 times and strike 3 times with out taking a swing. I don't think this new rule will change much since I think coaches have been having kids just take pitches already.
