  1. The Cubs should have taken Sing. His numbers look better than that Rifkin dude's... Sing is on the AA roster, so he can be drafted now. Rohlicek was on the AAA roster so he's safe now. (According to cubs.com rosters.) I'm sure those rosters are out of date. Pretty sure Sing is safe.
  2. No one took Sing or Rohlicek? Shocking!
  3. Smiling is not a reliable indicator of happiness. It is, however, a reliable indicator of derangement.
  4. Better bat, attitude, and no injuries! What's better about his bat? It's made of ash, while Hairston's is made of balsa wood?
  5. Are you guys being intentionally dense just to be cute and funny? Hendry's saying he doesn't have to get another outfielder before he leaves to make this a great trip.
  6. What is it exactly that Miguel Cairo brings that Jerry Hairston doesn't?
  7. SoCal contact who told me about the Angels/Cubs rumour last week also said Arizona may be in the mix for Patterson. He posed three scenarios: (1) Patterson for Luis Gonzalez and cash; (2) 3-way deal with Patterson going to AZ, Glaus going to LA and Bradley coming to the Cubs along with prospect movement and cash. (3) 4-way deal with Vazquez going to the Red Sox, Manny going to the Mets, Floyd going to the Cubs, and Corey and prospects going to AZ. Crazy stuff! out of these 3 scenarios isn't Bradley the only one who could actually play RF? WOuld Murton be moved to RF if we acquired Luis Gonzalez or Cliff Floyd? Murton would be a LF platoon partner and 4th OF.
  8. I imagine Green would be willing to do that to come to Chicago, but you might have to guarantee his 2008 paycheck as a carrot.
  9. "You have no idea how your life is gonna improve as a result of this. Food tastes better. The air seems fresher. You'll have more energy and self-confidence than you ever dreamed of."
  10. Olney cracks me up. If our outfield is Bradley, Murton, and Pierre, why would I put the strongest throwing arm in CF, where it would be the least useful?
  11. The Blue Jays are said to have interest in Brad Wilkerson. The Nationals are desperate for starting pitching. Wilkerson to the Blue Jays. Jerome Williams to the Nationals. Hudson to the Cubs. Add as necessary to even things out.
  12. No. Zero chance Pierre plays LF. Zero chance Murton plays RF.
  13. December 7th - Cubs need to decide whether to offer arbitration to Jeromy Burnitz, Nomar Garciaparra, and Chad Fox. December 20th - Cubs need to decide whether to offer arbitration to Juan Pierre, Corey Patterson, Jerry Hairston, Jr., Jose Macias, and Carlos Zambrano. Let's hope that closes this issue.
  14. Not exactly, but you may find this link helpful in that regard: http://www.mlb4u.com/freeagent.html
  15. I realize it's Offman, but... why is it that everytime the Cubs trade for a player they always try and immediately sign him to a long term deal? If you don't like that practice, you'll probably get your wish if and when the Cubs acquire Bradley.
  16. A healthy Wilkerson is a terrific player. Assuming he hasn't been on steroids all these years.
  17. If the Cubs acquire Mench and send him, Hill, and Gallagher to the A's for Zito, I won't ask for anything this Christmas. ZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZitoZito
  18. Yes, but the deadline for doing that is December 20th, not today. Why? Because he's arb eligible, not a free agent. yea, I get it - but why is he arb eligible and not a free agent? Because he has fewer than six complete years of major league service time.
  19. This is from the part of the CBA about 6 year free agents: "If the Player accepts the offer to arbitrate, he shall be a signed player for the next season and the parties will conduct a salary arbitration proceeding under Article VI, provided, however, that the rules concerning maximum salary reduction set forth in Article VI shall be inapplicable and the parties shall be required to exchange figures on the last day established for the exchange of salary arbitration figures under Article VI." That's top notch, PV. Thanks a lot.
  20. If he accepts arbitration, you can only cut his salary by 20%. He'd be guaranteed 6.4 million as the floor. No one hardly ever gets a pay cut through the system. Vance, people say this all the time, but I'm not certain that it's true. I know for a fact that you cannot cut a 0-3 guy's salary by more than 20%. That makes sense, because those guys have no power whatsoever. But why would arb eligible guys need that rule? The arbitration process should weed out any out-of-line offers. If the Cubs submitted $2 and Nomar submitted $7, the arbiter is certainly not going to choose the Cubs' ridiculous offer. Does anyone know 100% for sure to whom the 20% cut rule applies? No guesses, please. Just the facts, ma'am.
