Super Bowl XLI: Bears vs. Colts, Sun 2/4, 5:30 pm CT

Good News! -
Yeah, I think/hope Favre is done. Last season Favre told the Packers he was done right after the last game, but they told him to take more time and think about it. Then he told them again about a month later he was done, and again they told him to take more time. Eventually he finally decided to come back. After watching him the last game, I think it's all over, thankfully (for us Bears fans). There hasn't been any real news since, just minor indications that it might be over for him, like him cancelling his country club membership in Green Bay. We'll see....eventually.

Oh we are cooked. Two starters out. You are still awful, you play hard and have had an easy big ten schedule thus far. Plus the big ten sucks besides the two big teams. About how it has been the last 5 years with just two new teams at the top. Alhtough I guess it was three and wiscy remained. Awful? #16 RPI # 8 Pomeroy #15 Sagarin I'll take that kind of awful any day of the week. 14-4. 4 losses to Butler, KY, Duke, and Ohio St. Don't forget IU is now ranked in the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls. Pretty good for an "awful" team. Also, every team IU has lost to is ranked in the ESPN/USA Today poll. HAHA "awful." Oh yeah you guys are pretty much a lock to make the final four. You have done a nice job up to this point, but I still don't think you are all that good. Maybe after I really get to watchyou tomorrow I will feel different. Who said anything about the final four? You said IU is awful. If you really believe that, it is pretty clear you don't know anything about basketball. Just played in college, but hey don't have to know anything about college ball to play in it right? If you really believe IU is an "awful" team, I don't care if you coached in college. I don't care if you are Bruce freaking Weber, if you believe a 14-4, 4-1 team ranked in both polls that hasn't lost to a team outside the top 25, undefeated at home, one of the best teams in the Big Ten in scoring and defense is "awful" then yes you are clueless. Ok they aren't awful. I am of the opinion that they aren't that good and that when they finally start playing road games in the Big 10 a lot of people will get to see that. As of right now I don't think Weber knows uch about squat. He thinks his players need to stop celebrating and start concentrating during games. Yeah that's it Bruce it isn't your garbage motion offense. Funny how good that puppy looked when future NBA All Star Deron Williams was running it. You may very well be right about that, but IU has a pretty favorable schedule. After tonight I believe the Big Ten road games left are at Iowa at Michigan, and Northwestern, at Purdue, and at MSU. IU already went to OSU, and doesn't make a trip to Madison this year. As I have noted a few times in this thread it is really hard to win on the road in the conference (unless you are playing Minnesota who is God Awful). We saw NU almost take down Wisconsin, Illinois nearly take down the Badgers, IU absolutly destroy a then ranked MSU team, Purdue beat a 16-4, 4-1 Michigan team. It's just hard to win on the road in this conference, but as long as IU goes 8-0 at home, and 5-3 on the road they will have a shot at a share of the Big Ten Title (but they still might need a little help). I'm about to head south to C-U for the game in an hour, so this will be my last post about it before the contest. I think this is going to be a very very difficult game for the Hoosiers, with or without your injured guys. Aj Ratliff may also be out for IU, so that would negate Illinois losing Randle. From what I read Randle has been coming off the bench of late and has been a good scoring option like Ratliff. Assembly Hall is going to be the most intense enviornment IU has played in in quite a while, which is saying something because IU went to Duke, UK, and UCONN already this season. I honestly believe IU is a significantly better team than Illinois right now, but as I noted above it is so hard to win on the road in this conference. Still, I think Sampson's boys pull off a win and put themselves on the map for a Big Ten Championship (not just in the race for 3rd). Prediction: IU continues ther streak of not having allowed 75 in a game this season IU 74 ILLINI 69

Anyone know for sure about Pruitt and Randle? I assume they are both gametime decisions. Is there a radio station down there I should listen to in C-U tomorrow before the game to hear IU-Illini talk, and injury updates? Thanks.

I can't even wrap my brain around this. I can't imagine what it'd look like. Photoshop anybody? Two words: Violet Beauregarde. Wikipedia says the Colts wore blue pants with white jerseys for their first three games of 1995, and then switched back to all white. Pictures should be online somewhere, I'm just not motivated enough to look. :o Bow down. http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nfl/indy/FaulInd2.jpg Is that guy doing a Reggie Bush TD dive? -

i have something to confess.... "it hasnt hit me yet" It will be great when it does. It hit me soon after the Benson TD and I still can't stop smiling. It's a fantastic feeling. BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS! -
Well then why even pay any attention to the draft? I mean why would a Raider fan want Brady Quinn because other QB's have bombed, or why would they want Calvin Johnson because Charles Rodgers bombed with the Lions, we could go on and on. What makes him and Gallary more comparable than Johnson and Rodgers? Or Quinn and Ryan Leaf? Calm down. Someone mentioned Gallery in conjunction with Thomas, being that Gallery rated higher than Thomas is likely to, and still bombed. You said you didn't know anything about Gallery, but that Thomas would be a "force for 10+ years". I gave you a little info on Gallery, and somehow you took offense. I'm very calm, what implied that I wasn't? In what way did I take offense? I asked a legitimate question about how Thomas is more like Gallory than any other player in this draft is like a former bust at the same position. Still waiting for an answer. The question is "how is he different?". And you won't know the answer for awhile, ala Gallery. You said Thomas was a sure thing and that you didnt know anything about Gallery, so I filled in some blanks for you, it's as simple as that, I don't know what synapse is taking a nap and keeping you from figuring this out. I said Thomas is the safest bet in this draft TO ME, and I think he is going to be a great player for years to come. I am basing that on watching every game he played for the last two years and knowing a lot about his work ethic, and the type of person he is fom people who know him very very well. I have no idea what type of work ethic Gallory has. Why are you so dense that you do not understand what I am saying? How are the Thomas/Gallory compairisons valid? Because they were both highly ranked linemen? Well then like I said earlier we could do that for every single player in this draft. What synapse is taking a nap in your head, and keeping you from figuring this out smart guy? Take it easy, you said you didn't know anything about Gallery, so I helped you out. The same things you're saying about Thomas were said about Gallery, and then some. I'm just pointing out something, that's all. Don't instigate by being an idiot and then tell me to calm down when I reply. Again you don't answer my question. I assume you have no answer, and there is no evidence at all that Thomas is more like Gallery than any other player in this draft is like any other former bust at the same position. I based my OPINION of Thomas on knowledge from watching him play every game for the last few years and what I heard from someone very close to him. That person is a former longtime NFL offensive lineman who trains with Thomas in the offseason and says Thomas has the raw talent of a Boselli (sp?) and the best work ethic he has ever seen. Anyway, it is apparent you have nothing to add, so I'm done with this debate. Good day.

Has Favre announced his intentions for next year, yet? He said he planned on making a decision a few weeks after the season was over. I thought he should have retired prior to last year. Now, I think he should come back for one more year. The Packers might be good enough to earn a playoff spot next year. Lots of money to spend. He hasn't announced yet. If he comes back next year, I'm fairly confident that we're a playoff team next year, and that's without adding anybody new. Our defense nearly finished in the top 10 at the end of the year and right now, our only weakness on defense is at one of the safety positions. We can easily find a safety, be it through FA or the draft. We do have nearly $30 million in cap room to work with to help add some offensive skill players for Favre to work with (if he does come back). My guess is that Favre will wait a couple more weeks to see what direction Thompson and McCarthy decide to go in. If they promise Favre that they will go after Moss or someone of that nature, he'll come back. If they don't, I'm not sure what he'll do. We didn't add much in the offseason last year and he decided to come back, so who knows? You still start Brady Popinga, and I'm not sold on Cullen Jenkins (or KGB), plus there is no depth in the secondary. If anything were to happen to Woodson or Al Harris, the replacement (Dendy?) would get abused. I would worry about the regression of Greg Jennings (though he was banged up) and the running back position, Green isn't getting younger and Morency is a back-up. Plus Kurt Schottenheimer is still your secondary coach. The Packers finished strong, but I think they have some work to do to be considered a playoff team. We put KGB back to a pass rusher only the final four weeks of the season and it worked. He played the best he has since his first year in the league when he came in by storm. Cullen Jenkins really played well as a DE. You're right about our corners. We do need to add a nickelback because we don't have much depth there. A lot of mock drafts have us landing Lynch at 16, so that would end our RB situation. But I do believe that Green still has a couple more years in him and that him and Morency are a solid 1-2 punch. I'm not worried about Jennings either. He had a great year up until he got hurt. We missed our chance on getting Tim Lewis as our secondary coach. Big mistake on our part. Schottenheimer is one of the worst secondary coaches in the league and easily our weak link in our coaching staff. But I really do think that at the end of the season, we showed what we can do next season if we can just make a few upgrades as a whole. Any word on extensions for Nick Barnett or Al Harris up there? I get the feeling one of those guys will be moved like Javon Walker was. If I had to guess I would say Barnett won't be a Packer next year because he has been involved in a few off the field incidents (not a Packer Person), and they have Hodge behind him.

If I'm getting those two receivers, I start Schaub and draft Joe Thomas. That would be a wise move. Joe Thomas will be a force for 10+ years. Robert Gallery was supposed to be the same thing and that's turned out great for the Raiders. But that's just because it's the Raiders so other teams should have nothing to worry about. I didn't know too much about Gallery, but Joe Thomas is legitimate. I think he is the safest bet in the draft. Maybe being a Raider killed his career, but he has nothing to do with Joe Thomas. We can run down a long long list of Top 10 quarterbacks who were busts, but they have nothing to do with Brady Quinn or JaMarcus Russell. You said that Joe Thomas is "legit", well Gallery was regarded just as high or higher than Thomas is. Gallery was a "sure thing", too at one point. No draft pick, especially a offensive lineman is a sure thing. O-Line is one of the safest positions to draft top 10, so I don't get how you can say "especially an offensive lineman." We'll just have to wait and see, but if I had to bet everything I had on one player in this draft to end up living up to his selection spot, I would take Joe Thomas.

Pacers lead the Bulls by 15 at halftime. Maybe we can make a deal with Indy, they can have this game, and we'll take the Chicago-Indy game on February 4th.

I think either style coach can have success. Coaching isn't about yelling at or being buddy-buddy with players, it's about getting the most out of players, and either style can do that. The differences between Lovie and Dusty (other than talent level of the team) are so great. Lovie has shown no reluctance to bench players while they are not performing, yet knows when to stick by a guy (Grossman). Lovie's team plays hard. Lovie's team doesn't make many fundamental mistakes. Lovie puts guys in position to have success. Dusty was a disaster. -

Well, he IS a Packers fan  But seriously, he's under house arrest. If he isn't granted permission to go to Miami with the team, people shouldn't be in an uproar about it. The Lake County Judge who has already OK'd Tank going to Miami was the Packers fan. There's no indication of the fan affiliation of the Cook County Judge who is having the hearing tomorrow. Why does he need 2 judges to ok it? -

LOL. Ahh, the Packer fan who will remember all the negative Bear details and whip them out to be a thorn in Bear fans' side. Yes, that's what I'm here for  I just don't think people should be too upset about it. The Bears won the game. Who cares what Reggie did? The final score is all that matters. And personally, I don't care about taunting. I took a lot of heat from saying this to fellow Packer fans in 04, but I didn't mind Randy Moss mooning the fans at Lambeau. Maybe the defense should've actually tried to stop him and that wouldn't have happened. That's just my whole take on the situation. Yeah, I didn't mind it too much either. The only reason I think it was ill-advised was because it's never a good idea to give your opponents ammunition. Not that the Bears should need motivation----it is after all the biggest game of their lives. I noticed Peyton Manning last night in his press conference: "The Bears have a great team.....we're excited for the challenge....we've been watching the Bears in the NFC and have been impressed......." yada yada. That's the smart play: kill 'em with praise. I expect the Bears to do the same. Yeah, Manning, Dungy, and company are not going to give us any material. They are smarter and classier than that. -
