  1. I think with so many teams competing for playoff spots these days, you see less and less huge trades at the deadline.
  2. Huh? How did the Kearns/Lopez trade work out for them? Maybe it was met with "know-it-all snottiness" because compared to Krivsky, my [expletive] three-legged dog knows it all. And I provided a list of players on the previous that were FAs. If the Reds wanted to improve their BP, they should have signed a couple of them for the same or less money than they gave to Cordero.
  3. A of all, Bartlett, Ford, and Mays suck. B of all, they were acquired for Brian Buchanan, Hector Carrasco, and Roberto Kelly. All players who also sucked. C of all, this guy is [expletive].
  4. Who? Not even counting trade targets, plenty were available this year.... Dotel Riske Hawkins Linebrink Wood Percival Herges Julio Timlin Vizcaino Affeldt Some are obviously better than others, but the Reds were not a team in need of ONE guy to lock it down at the end of games. Their problem was getting it to the closer. It will help to move Weathers to set up, but they still don't have the depth.
  5. Jr. has a NTC and are you sure JH would have done that? Well last year at the trading deadline he said the only team he'd waive it for was the Cubs, so yeah, I'm pretty sure he'd waive it.
  6. Reds would have been better off using the money to get 2 or 3 relievers.
  7. Wonder why the NL Central is so horrible? Just look at the GMs fighting between and driving up the prices of Cordero and Matsui.
  8. Didn't Mizzou say that they went to the same HS?
  9. I don't know why, but I always thought the Rays like him. And they have no reason to deal him. Its not a Luke Scott situation.
  10. according to revised zone rating, GMJr was actually the worst defensive center fielder in the american league last season, and i think dewan's plus/minus system ranked GMJr among the worst last season too. torii hunter was slightly better last season defensively, and in 2006, they both equally sucked defensively. though interestingly enough, in 2006 coco crisp was the worst defensive center fielder according to revised zone rating, but in 2007 he was the 4th best. so who knows. What that does prove is that defense (especially OF) is about as repeatable as the performance of relievers. You are going to have some that are going to be good year in year out, and others that are going to wildly fluctuate. Meaning that it'd be quite foolish to weigh defense heavily when valuing most players.
  11. Except for the fact that the Indians have an abundance of set up men and are smart enough to realize that Theriot sucks.
  12. I think Marquis and Andruw are very different, and I doubt the reaction would be nearly the same. I absolutely hated everything about the Marquis signing. I wouldn't be a big fan of Andruw coming here, but he'd probably help, and I wouldn't hate it that much. Number of Marquis' great full seasons before being signed with the cubs=0 Number of Marquis' really good full seasons before being signed with the cubs=0 Number of Marquis' good full seasons before being signed with the cubs=0 Number of Marquis' alright full seasons before being signed with the cubs=1 (3 years before signing) Number of Jones' great full seasons before being FA=4 Number of Jones' really good full seasons before being FA=4 Number of Jones' good full seasons before being FA=2 Number of Jones' alright full seasons before being FA=1 (1 years before FA)
  13. Lefty? Check Speed? Check OBP? Check Can catch the ball? Check Sounds like he should be pretty attractive to Hendry
  14. Meph, I think you are missing a "not" in a sentence in your second to last paragraph.
  15. ...yet. His market won't develop until after Hunter signs. Possibly not until Rowand is seriously pursued as well.
  16. I remember you posted an abridged version of this...looking forward to reading the unabridged on my way home tonight.
  17. No one's talked about him since the trading deadline, but I would put my money on Griffey being the cubs starting RF next year.
  18. There's no way that happens. Cabrera plays the most important position very effectively. They will try to trade Crede because of the uncertainty of his back and they have Fields to play 3B. Uribe will either move to 2B or be traded. you may be right. Rotoworld was speculating Uribe going to the Rays OCab would be as bad of an offensive 3B as....well, Crede.
  19. Rotoworld is assuming the Justice/Ringolsby report is dogma?
  20. A lot of moves and a lot of money to vault from fourth to third place. With a little luck they might come in a distant second and fall well short of the wild card.
  21. You think the Yankees deal with A-Rod will fall apart? Seems awfully far along in the process combined with such a huge contract makes it incredibly unlikely IMO that one side would walk away now. ARod deals have been far along in the process before while still falling through. There's no good reason why it hasn't been signed yet. Indeed. Arod was traded to Boston. Then he wasn't. ARod himself said yesterday that talks were in "the bottom of the 5th inning".
  22. The trade doesn't really make sense for either team. The sox should be blowing this thing up, but they are moving in the opposite direction. To their credit, they just traded a Type B FA for a Type A FA. With Garland being better in 06 and OCab being better in 07, unless anything drastic happens they will probably stay in those types. He also frees up money, but he'll probably spend it foolishly on Hunter/Rowand. Unfortunately for him, he picked up Uribe's option and theres no market for trading him. On the Angels side of the table, they have competent youngsters that could step in and do just as well if not better than Garland. However, Garland is going to a better park for pitchers, maybe they think his HR will cut down. Both players are well overrated and as of now don't fit into either team's plans. We'll have to see how this one plays out, but I think we just saw a trade between two organizations that have no clue where they are/should be going.
  23. Aren't Smith's #s inflated because of the ballparks hes playing in?
  24. How many hits did he have in the playoffs? Yeah, thats about how much we would get for him.
