  1. 2 and 3 That is the amount of extra base hits Theriot had in those months respectively. I'm all for OBP, but if you convert those months to wOBA, I believe you are going to get two below league average months, the first one being way below league average. Like I've said about 80 bagillion times, Theriot's peripherals don't show that hes gotten lucky, but his utter and complete lack of power (which I believe is purposeful as his FB rate has dropped significantly), leaves him as a player that is more dependent on luck than pretty much every other player in baseball. We've seen the regression happen within this season and last season. This isn't just a slump or him getting tired. This is to be expected when you don't put the ball into play with power. Hes making the most of his talents and I'm grateful to him to recognize and do that, lots of players don't, but hes no great shakes by any stretch of the imagination.
  2. Man, you don't have college figured out at all. I'm in pharmacy school now. Ditching classes isn't the most beneficial thing to do. Trust me, I rarely went to undergrad classes. I miss those days... Ahhh, I have a friend who just graduated pharma and another one thats still in it. Don't worry, when you finish you'll be able to afford to pay a scalper to get Cubs playoff tickets. :D

  4. Ha, Lou was yelling at Cedeno while he was shaking his hand...think he was venting about being stressed all day frantically refreshing his email looking to see if he won the lottery?
  5. Cubs win...we lose.
  6. Yes, 11.11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111% of a ticket. lol, but you know a lot of other teams do things like that. If they are truly trying to make sure fans that really want to be there are there, thats the first thing I'd think of. I think the Cubs perspective is that they think they are being nice by still letting you buy that ticket package. Additionally, they already only sell 7,500 per playoff game, so they probably figure from a PR standpoint they need to offer as many to the general public as they can. But most importantly, other teams don't have season ticket waiting lists like the cubs do. They offer playoff priority as an incentive to get people to buy seasons or packages of tickets. Cubs don't have to do that.

  8. ditto...effen ditto
  9. An oft injured pitcher coming off of a season in which he'll throw the most pitches in baseball? Not worth the risk. The Jays were heavily leaning toward working something out with him and now with Marcum out for 2009, they are going to pay him whatever he wants. Despite the fact that he wants to come here badly, hes not going to give us enough of a discount to make it worth it.
  10. If that was true then they'd definitely let us buy tickets and then refund everything except the "service" fee and laugh all the way to the bank.
  11. Well this year hes sucked in every month except for 2. So maybe next year he'll be halfway decent!!!
  12. Well its past 5 now...
  13. Doesnt matter, you probably haven't gotten the email yet
  14. Are we sure it's email notifications? I'm gonna run home and check the mail from Saturday. See if it's mixed in with the missing kids. You have a pile of missing children? Pedeophilliac serial murders always slip up somehow...
  15. Are they trying to raise a sunken ship? I think that will be my first and only mythbusters reference. But we'll see. Man, I went in a completely different direction.
  16. Yeah, just ask Winona Ryder.
  17. Nah. The trend seems to be that the rejection emails are sent out after the success ones, whether by the Cubs for the luxury seat opportunities or other teams for the playoffs. I hate you for telling me that I've been Mr. Pessimistic throughout this whole thing, but Jon has to be Mr. Bearer of Bad News (note, not badnews). Sooo, about 7,500 per game means a bit over 10,000 unique ticket purchasers. I'm guessing they'll allow 3x the amount of people through the VWR (to ensure it sells out), so maybe 30,000 people will get the good email.
  18. Cain has a few years before he would be a free agent. Keep him thru his arbitration years, get to the playoffs a couple times and things can change in a hurry. Granted, they very well could end up 3rd in the west this year, its a smidge bullish to think they could get into the playoffs twice in the next three years. Yes, the Padres are probably going to be a doormat until they get a new owner (perhaps a single dude?) and yes the Giants are in the early stages of their youth movement, but they are still going to finish this year allowing over 100 more runs than they've scored (currently tied for worst in their division). Their winning percentage is under .400 in games Lincecum doesn't pitch. Arizona and Colorado are at a more mature stage in their youth movement as are the Dodgers (thanks to Logan White) despite front office ineptitude (which is counter balanced by loads of money). And speaking of front office ineptitude, all signs point to Brian Sabean being retained as the GM. That paints a bleak but accurate picture for the Giants near future.
  19. Did she have a sex change and change her name to Vince Vaughn?
  20. Yeah, I wouldn't consider our odds fairly decent at all. It all depends on how many people they let through to the VWR (2x amount of tickets available? 5x amount of tickets available?), but our odds individually are terrible, and cumulatively as a board, not great. For example, it doesn't sound like anyone has gotten picked for the other teams' lotteries. I'm sure less of us signed up for those than for the Cubs, but its indicative of the process. If Jon is right and we are looking at somewhere south of 15,000 seats per game, we are probably looking at roughly 20,000 unique buyers. Given that as UM mentioned above, I'm sure the scalpers have worked around it somehow, we are looking at even less unique buyers. I sure hope a lot of people get selected, but I highly doubt it.
  21. Didn't the season ticket holders get dibs on purchasing extra tickets early, or am I getting the Cubs and Bears mixed up? Cubs season ticket holders get dibs on purchasing their tickets early. My boss's boss is a bleacher season ticket holder.
  22. Sorry to burst your bubble but you're forgetting to account for season ticket holders. Working in the other direction is the fact that most likely there are going to be more people who "win" the lottery and are able to get to the VWR than there will be tickets available. Roughly 40,000 tickets per game, what are there, like 20,000 season ticketholders (purely a guess), so youre down to 20K per game, 3 games, 1 person gets 2 tickets so thats 30K "unique" buyers. So, I'm guessing at least 60K people will be allowed to "win" the lottery to get through the VWR.
  23. No, and thats obviously not the point.
  24. One side kept it off the field (i.e. coaches, not players), the other chose to target the opposing SP. I think that's weak. Or smart.
