  1. tired of reading through threads....but in comparing arams and dunns production in relation to their value, the positions they play needs to be brought into the debate. While 3b is a power position, definitely not as much as LF.
  2. Ok, well no one mentioned the old rumor or Holla to the yanks for Felix Rodriguez, who coincidentally was just activated from the DL. Although quite uncharacteristic of Hendry, a Dubois and Holla swap for Gerut and F-Rod improves this team, but definitely not significanlty (also IMO not insignificantly). He (and Dusty and players) have made quite a few statements that with Williamson and Nomar this team may not have to make any significant moves. Could it be that Hendry believes a Gerut/Murton platoon in left, Nomar at ss, Williamson in the 8th and F-Rod in the 7th improves this team enough from here on out to make a significant enough push to get us into the playoffs? I love Dunn, but Gosh (combined with healthy starters), that might just be enough to do it for us.
  3. I have to disagree. I think If the managment shuts their traps, and deals with it in house, his trade value is higher. Yes he was in a decline. But He was still Slammin Sammy. Despite the fact he only hit in the low 200's, he still had quite a few HR's. I'm sure alot of teams would accept the lower average for the power. The club decided to make him into CLUBHOUSE CANCER SAMMY SOSA, however, and i beleive that hurt his value. If the team didn't reveal his surly dispossition at the end of the year, another team would have surely investigated why the Cubs were trading him and discovered the truth anyway. In addition, there is no way Sosa drops the next guaranteed year unless he has to eat some value do to his poor reputation. No team was going to give us much value for 2 years of an inflated contract. You also have to consider the business/marketing side of it. If the Cubs just keep everything quiet and trade him there would have been an uproar among the "average" fan who still remembers '98 Sosa. Those "average" fans are who buy a majority of the tickets and an awful lot of merchandise. It may be cold, but business can be that way, and the Cubs needed to "sell" their fan base on the idea of Sammy no longer being part of the team. He just happened to make it very easy for them. Those "average fans" were booing the hell out of sosa every day for half of the 2004 season. If the last game would have never happened no one would have batted an eye if the cubs traded sammy in the offseason.
  4. That would be a tough argument to make. hehehe, i would say looking at the number of prior and woods starts last year and projected starts this year would be a good place to start.
  5. I would argue that we lose the wildcard if nothing works out our way...unfortunately nothing worked out our way last year and its shaping up to be no different this year.
  6. My understanding is that Prior is subject to arbitration after 2006 since the arbitration rules are part of the collective bargaining agreement that cannot be waived by the individual contracts. In any event, the Cubs will not negotiate mid=season as that is their policy. players can be under contact during their arbitration years. Very few players actually ever reach arbitration. Players have 3 (sometimes 4, if they are super 2s) years of arbitration eligibility but that doesnt mean that they will actually be going to arbitration. It is the standard for teams to sign players to 1 yr contracts before going to arbitration , such as Z, and then giving them another 1 year contract the next year, or signing players to multiple year contacts, sometimes throughout their arbi eligible years and sometimes a year or two after they are eligible to become FAs. So when does Prior become a FA, assuming the Cubs take advantage of all his arbitration years? No player becomes a FA before he reaches 6 years of ML service. Which would mean Prior becomes a FA after 2008. Most likely the next contract will be a 2 year extension, allowing the cubs will "buy out" the remaining arbitration years as Mark will want to at least have the option to test the market ASAP. Outside chance of a 3 year contract delaying his ability to test the market one year, but I feel regardless of his desire to stay with the cubs, prior will not handcuff himself and allow himself to have the negotiation leverage of the option to test the market.
  7. Of course to do that in July, he'd have to post an OBP of nearly 500 for the rest of the month. As much as I appreciate what Holly did in June, that is not the Holly we will most likely see throughout the rest of the year. An upgrade definitely is needed.

  9. I don't really hate Cabrera, I dont paticularily like the mocking he did, but I'll chalk that up to being immature. His performance is amazing, right now IMO hes the most underrated player in the game, just wait until he starts playing third base.
  10. should no moves be made our season will depend on how the guys who have come back (wood and prior) and how the guys who will be coming back (nomar and williamson) perform. 3rd in the WC and 5 games back is not insurmountable for a team that has played the majority of their games without two aces and an MVP candidate (according to Gammons :D ).
  11. Cot's Baseball Contracts
  12. Everyone falls short in comparison to a guy going for the triple crown.
  13. Ronnie was at Ranallis!!!!! Best Pizza EVER!!
  14. Sounds like Washington will keep Church. They are moving him to LF, so Wilson can play CF. Wilkerson is moving to 1B for the injured Nick Johnson - his heel injury sounds very serious - that could be a big blow to them. How serious is it considering he was supposed to start a minor league assignment a few days ago. now I know he didn't start it and is out "indefinitely" but they would have never said he was going to start the rehab assignment if he wasn't showing some signs of recovery.
  15. Valid point. Maybe a 3 way deal that sends Kearns and Patterson to Washington for Wilkerson? Or how about focusing on Church? However, assuming the Rockies and Nats compromise on the .5M difference they are currently at (and I can't see how they wont) they really don't have room for another OF. Wilson will play center, moving Wilk to first until Johnson comes back with Church coming back to play left. When Johnson comes back some one has to become the odd man out. This year, Wilk is OPSing ~150 points lower than both Church and Johnson and 100 points lower than Guillen. Washington's offensive problems have stemmed from injuries and SS. With Chuch, Vidro, and Johnson coming back, part of the problem will be solved. They could really use a top of the rotation starter if they want to have a chance of making the playoffs and doing any damage in them.
  16. If the Giants are going to deal Schmidt, I think they're going to want more than Patterson and Rusch. Even then, I don't know if they'd want Patterson with Ellison in CF, or Rusch with his player option. I do like the idea of inserting ourselves in a Schmidt deal though. I also had a couple of prospects going as well. I guess with Jerome Williams' pressence, Mitre becomes expendable (am I correct that this is his last year of options?) although I think thats a lot to give up. Maybe see if we can get Eyre back. That would solve both our problems.
  17. viewtopic.php?t=22648 I conceived a more plausable trade netting us Wilk, that in principle is: Nats get Schmidt, Remmy Cubs get Wilk Giants get Patterson, Rusch
  18. Heres the trade: Vlad for Ichiro and Omar Vizquel Now, I know theres no collusion going on here and I normally wouldnt veto a trade unless collusion but isn't this a bit ridiculous? The guy getting Ichiro and Omar doesnt even need a SS or MI, he has Young Rollins and Renteria in a 10 person league.
  19. Hairston Walker Lee ARAM Huff--yeah I'm still wearing my believe bracelet Nomar Burnitz Barrett
  20. We are talking about the same Jay Payton who has a non-coors 320 OBP and sub 400 slugging? Who is he supposed to be an upgrade over?
  21. Actually he said he prefers 2B to being a utility man. He regretted accepting the role of filling in in the outfield in Baltimore because it allows him to become a supersub, rather than a starter, which is what he should be. Additionally, he errantly is labeled as a part time player, only because he has suffered injuries over the past few years that have prohibited him from playing for a full year, not because he was used as a platoon or part time. I think if we said, you are the starting CF, he'd have no problems.
  22. my question is why is the term "dusty busting" demeaning?
  23. Schmidt's injury has decrease his value and made him much riskier, plus hes a FA at the end of the season. Wilkerson still has 2 more arbi years.
  24. Remmy and Macias are dumps, and the 2 rule 5s wont exactly be ML ready prospects...They will be guys that might have a chance of being taken and stowed away, or maybe not. They dont have to be rule 5s, I was just saying 2 mid level prospects that have some decent value but are low in the system, or something like that. I'm not saying like Nolasco, Hill, Pinto type guys, I'm saying more Ryu type guys. Rusch isn't that useful to us now with Williams here and Mitre as insurance. Plus he hasn't had a good outing in a month, where his ERA has risen by 1.28. I threw the prospects in there to sweeten the pot to get things moving, but in principle its patterson and rusch for schmidt for wilkerson
  25. Giants can throw in Tucker or Elison if the Nats want one of them for OF depth for this season
