  1. He only played 7 games at short, only started 5 of them. He now has 3.136 years of ML service time, meaning he is eligible for arbi for the first time.
  2. I don't know but who does Oakland have to play second base? Mark Ellis who happened to put up a 316/384/477 line last year. Well shoots that deal down! However, I wouldnt rule out Beane trading him (I would never rule out beane trading anyone though). Hes coming off of an amazing year (after a bad year) and will be first time arbi eligible so he will get a pretty decent bump in salary and will be 29 next year. Most likely though, if Beane thinks he can sniff his 2005 numbers again he keeps him around for another year before he deals him for some good prospects.

  4. All reports now say he will be ready by spring training.
  5. I agree that due dilligence is definitely necessary, but Im not sure if negative feedback would deter me. Remember, Bradley will cost us next to nothing in terms of players and very little in terms of salary. There has never been any racial problems on the team (besides reverse racism by dusty). He is about to have his first child and that often has calming affects on disgruntled young males.
  6. Too bad the cubs arent lovable losers anymore. But just losers.
  7. See this is what Im talking about. You're making a stretch over two asusmptions to reach the goal of criticizing Hendry. First, Giles hasn't signed, you have no idea what his deal will be. None. Second, where did you get 50M from? We haven't even signed Howry, yet. Ok, well the reports that the cubs were about to sign Howry for 3/12 were true, point cpatt. Giles hasnt signed but reports were that he was offered anywhere from 3/27 (Pads) to 3/30 (Yanks). Reports came out today that he countered the pads offer with 3/30 and was rejected after the SD GM said hed give a little hometown discount, so it looks like Cpatt does have an idea what his deal will be. point Cpatt. Available salary figures have ranged from 30M-42M, so Cpatt loses a point for being overly hyperbolic. Overall cpatt is 2/3. If he were a batter wed call today a good day for him. His "stretch over two assumptions" were based on numerous media reports.
  8. You are missing a big piece here. They traded for Lowell, in part, must it was only a small part. They traded for Beckett and took on Lowell's salary, kind of like how the Cubs traded for Alfonseca and took on Clement's salary, or traded for Lofton and took on Ramirez's salary. I'm not missing anything - I'm not even saying it was a bad deal for Bosox - I'm just saying that 9 mil is a lot of money for someone who sucked as bad as Lowell did last year. Hopefully for them Beckett will make the deal worth it. I'm also saying that if Hendry spent 9 mil for a similiar player in a similiar situation we would be hanging him in effigy ( so to speak) on this board today. I'm not sure if you followed baseball before last year, but in 2002, 2003, and 2004 in the NL there were two thirdbaseman who were in the top 5 in OPS for their position in all three years, their names are Scott Rolen and dum dada dum, Mike Lowell. Lowell had a horrible year last year but has very recently been a premier thirdbaseman in the league.
  9. Warren Carter! bum bum badabum Warren Carter!
  10. 3b last i heard He is playing SS in the Dominican Winter League, apparently. 3B will be kinda crowded since he seems to be advancing through the system at the same rate as LaRoche. I thought LaRoche was on the other LA... Nope, hes in the dodger org, should be ready to be given a shot in 2007.
  11. ? If a team has consistently failed and the team has similar characteristics year after year and yet continues to fail, how could the characteristics not factor into causing the failure? Possibly the cubs did not fail because of their homerun production, but despite their homerun production?
  12. I'm not so sure. Clement loved Chicago and he and his wife were very close to Prior and Wood. My guess is he wouldn't mind being reunited here. Under a different regime, yes.
  13. I'd rather take Lowe, he'd cost less in terms of players. Plus Dusty benched Clement at the end of the 2004 season and Clement was really pissed. I dont think either side would like to reunite.
  14. The CF joke was in regards to Furcal, not Giles. I think the Yankees are legitimately interested. Torre wouldn't be calling on their bahalf if they weren't. I personally don't think Giles wants to play there, but he'll use the Yankee offer to try to up the ante for other teams. Even Paul O'neil called him.
  15. Obligatory, "edmonds would disagree with you :D "
  16. Holy Jesus the glove and ball are formed out of an M and B!!!! (Seriously, I didnt see it until people mentioned it in this thread)
  17. CBS is reporting him to be healthy by ST as of last week http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/127049
  18. I think its valuable to note (and forgive me if it already has) that Bradley is not a lock to be healthy by the ASB, let alone spring training. I'll look for the link where I heard that.
  19. Ohh yeah, of course. I hire the braves 3rd base coach, give Vance a 50K signing bonus with the following stipulations. For every 10 starts neifi perez gets, I take 10K away. If Neifi bats other than 7th or 8 in any starts I take away another 10K. For every pitch a starter throw over 120 with more than a 3 run difference in score I take away 500 bucks. Any time the manager says "clog the bases" I get to beat Vance severely. If the cubs make the playoffs Vance gets a 25K bonus. For every round they advance he gets another 10K, and for a world series championship he gets my first born son (as long as he doesnt let him fall on his head, like Addison :D )
  20. Ok if thats a separate clause then "the club quotas shall be increased accordingly" means to me the following:0-14 Type A/B=no more than 1 per club 15-38 Type A/B=no more than 2 per club 39-62 Type A/B=no more than 3 per club ASSUMING... 63-86 Type A/B=no more than 4 per club 87-110 Type A/B=mo more than 5 per club
  21. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So Hoops, 3 minutes after you said we'd be going for a RF or CF, you say Cliff Floyd is coming here? Actually my source thinks we're going after a RF AND CF. As for Floyd, I think if Hendry brings him here, it will be to play RF. Wow, a month and a half later I see your response. My question was that you are staying Floyd is a RF. Lets examine Floyd's recent defensive positionings. In 2002 for the Marlins 3/4 of the time he spent in RF because the defensive black hole, Millar, was in LF, so Floyd got 60 RF games by default. That was pretty much the extent of his RF experience. I've never seen Floyd play for an extended period of time but from what I've heard hes not a great defender, which is what it seems that Hendry is looking for. His RF stats look decent, however that was 350 games ago on his banged up legs (and a small sample size). He was healthy last year and put up good defensive numbers, but thats a risk. It just seems that Hendry doesnt want to be taking risks this year. I like Floyd, but I dont think he is the answer in for the cubs OF.
  22. Minnesota. ;) I think he was going moreso for the implied "points to sig"
  23. If the Dbacks dont trade him then Vazquez can elect to become a free agent so they lose him and get no one in return, but also dont have to pay him. If I'm the Dbacks I am thinking, worst case scenario he elects for free agency and I save a bunch of money. That thinking translates to the trade, meaning that basically they can think of a Vazquez and Quentin/Tracy for Williams or Corey or Walker or Hairston and minor league pitcher as just Quentin/Tracy for one of those and a minor league pitcher. And theres no way the Dbacks will make a trade like that.
