  1. So you are using July 2004 as a basis for that claim? Neifi had better months in March/April and August in 2005? Does that mean he has shown the "tools" to become a league average hitter? Izturis has over 2500 ML plate appearances to show that he is nowhere near a league average hitter. Scroll down to OPS+ I think Rob is making the point that Cedeno is very young and more likely to improve and learn from Perry than Izturis. He also had a 2005 that was above league average in AAA.
  2. Ha, with me, Rob, and KC representing about half of the posters on the transactions board, we should ressurect this thread!!! Finally we have numbers!
  3. Rumor from Gotham Admin Despite recent injuries, John Patterson has been one of the best starting pitchers in baseball the last two years. Hes entering his prime while still in his first year of arbi. Hes been consistent home and away as well. He keeps the ball in the park, strikes out a ton, doesn't walk many and therefore keeps guys off the basepaths. If Bowden craves Milledge, but has been flat out refused, does anyone think he might find Pie + others as an acceptable consolation? I acknowledge that health is a big issue and cannot be overlooked, but if we assume that the cubs have done their due diligence medically he would be an amazing pick up.
  4. That probably depends on the stadium. I think in Wrigley its actually harder to play RF because its large and theres the well. Heres an interesting analysis of OF defense position by position Hardball Times
  5. That and communism are wonderfuly theories...the only problem is a little thing called reality (sorry Sulley). Have you seen any other sports team, or even large busines for that matter use a "rolling budget"?
  6. For a guy with such a cool first name, I don't get why he goes by such a wiener nick name. I can understand it when you are little, but come on, hes an adult now.
  7. I wouldn't doubt that someone here in the history of the board has said that somewhere. But most likely Baseball7897 needs to look up the definition of hyperbole.
  8. However, the market is cyclical. This market is just like the 2000-2001. As a reaction, a few years later there was much more fiscal conservatism. In a few years we will see the same thing. Although Hendry has had the first mover advantage in this marketplace, making the Soriano deal look slightly less horrible, in 3 or 4 years its going to look even worse than it did the day it was signed.
  9. no to lilly, yes to padilla no to oth, yes to garcia. Agreeance...but if K-Dub shot down the Ervin Santana and prospects for Garcia rumor, I don't think we have enough to get him.
  10. HA! Yeah, that would be a little bit better than great. But unfortunately, the only way Shapiro starts even thinking about trading Peralta is if he repeats his 2006 numbers next year. If I were Hendry though, I sure would ask...but that would buck the "if he hit well in 2006, I'm gonna give him a bajillion bucks" line up thinking that Hendry has shown this offseason.
  11. I think the Tribe is pretty high on Choo, Jones really isn't a fit for them. They would be very intested in Izturis, though. Shapiro spouted some major hater quotes on Peralta's defense a few weeks ago. It would be really ironic if they traded Westbrook for Izturis because although that would help with their ground ball defense, they wouldn't need nearly as much help because they would be trading a guy who probably induces 1/3rd of their ground balls.
  12. And Jacque supplants Rivera or Anderson....in the immortal words of Bruno "eesh don't think so". See the key to a trade is that the guy you are trading to the team needs to fill a hole or be better than the players they already have. really? is that how it works? who would have guessed that? maybe because jones had a better year in 2006 than anderson has had since 2003? Unfortunately, the way baseball works, if a guy is making $11M, hes not riding the pine no matter how average hes been. Ohh and looking at OPS+ Jacque was only better in 2006 (by only 9). They were the same in 2005 and Anderson was significantly better before that. From the Angels perspective you can't actually think they would trade for JJ, do you?!?!? With the signing of GMJr we lost a trading partner.
  13. First, I would rather trade for Heilman that get any of those starters, but if we can't Padilla is way ahead of all of those you mentioned. Lilly walks a lot of guys and gives up the long ball...we've seen enough of that lately.

  15. If we are going to spend that kind of money on CF I'd rather it be on Drew, who we will have for longer term and not have to give up any players to get. Not to mention fits our need (OBP) better than Andruw
  16. Neither team really has a need for him. And most likely JP will keep Wells until near the deadline when he will have all the leverage in trade talks. In theory Wells shouldnt have a ton of value since he is only under control through the year, however in practice it doesnt work out that way.
  17. Jeez, no wonder why DePo got pushed out.
  18. DING DING DING (also get Church to be the 4th OF while you're at it)
  19. Contracted. Where you been? Better than Kurt Douglas surfing through their streets, or am I getting confused?
  20. Because there is no reason for Atlanta to make that trade and Lofton and Roberts are downgrades from Jones?
  21. If we can send Izturis and whatever prospects to Boston for Crisp (assuming they sign Drew), I would be fine with letting Jones go. Cleveland and Colorado don't match up well for Jones, but possibly a three way deal could be worked out (Anaheim?). Or even just a three way for the prospects to trade to Boston. I don't see anything in Toronto that helps us (besides the obvious).
