  1. emphasis added. I love the arm chair quarterbacking of GMs. noboday has any idea whatsoever of what happens in these negotiations, yet people presume they know what probably could have happened. Agreed. Ok, then I GUARANTEE Lugo signs for less than 67M. You are obviously missing KC's point.
  2. A Pavano contract? Oh you mean like the same one that Hudson has? PASS on Hudson.
  3. /cheers for the royals I'd say there's a 90% chance he never repeats what he did last year. And we're paying him money for years like last year. And we're paying him that same amount of money for 8 years. And we can't trade him. Even if we wanted to, he can stop it, even after his NTC expires. And he's essentially untradeable with his contract anyways. It's not a good deal. The only way it's justified is if he produces like this for at least some part of his contract, even though it's extremely unlikely. Is it nice to have Soriano? Sure. It's still not a good signing. The only way its understandable is if Drew to Boston is for sure, Lee to Houston is for sure, and Theo refuses to trade us Manny. And while Jim wants to make the best team possible, he also wants to keep his job.
  4. Count me in for that trade bigtime, other than Wuertz plz. We need him. Marshall, Ohman and Izturis though, happily! Don't forget, Ohman + Izturis = $5MM, I believe Westbrook gets $6MM in 07, so the Cubs would only take on a mere $1MM in payroll in this hypothetical deal to get themselves a bona fide #3/4 starter, in this market that would be a home run. Theriot can easily play SS--and with much better offense--than Izturis. Or if they must, the Cubs could always sign Lugo or.....trade for Tejada? OK, now I'm hallucinating. actually Westbrook would be getting 5M and some change for 2007 after arbaration. So it's basically a wash. The deal I had heard though was Jones, Izturis, and Ohman or Westbrook though. I could be wrong. Does that means that Michaels is gone? I thought I heard somewhere they might non-tender him. I wouldn't mind buying low on him to be our 4th OF.
  5. Option 1 Trade for Heilman Option 2 Trade for Westbrook Option 3 Sign Padilla Afterthought: Sign Marquis for a cheap reclamation project
  6. Did he say anything else?
  7. izturis, marshall and ohman. pleeeeeeeeeeeeease keep wuertz. Ohman has alot of value also. Left handed batter's only hit .158 against Ohman last year. Alot of playoff teams wanted Ohman because of his ability to get out left handed batter's. Yes, and thats why I hope we don't trade him because then Cotts or Eyre (more likely Cotts) are going to be thrown into the LOOGY role, which neither are suited for. Unless of course we are going to bring up Rapada. I would propose Eyre, Marshall, and Izturis.
  8. Supposedly yes. Or it was implied when he said the cubs are still looking for a CF and starting pitching.
  9. You mean rotoworld is passing along that the Trib is "reporting" CF. And by reporting I mean assuming.
  10. The Cubs don't know what EqA is. They someone just misspelled ERA. Its (not) funny cause its true.
  11. Bruce Miles challenges your statement. paul sullivan challenges bruce miles "The Cubs plan to have Soriano play centerfield and bat lead-off, giving them three players who have hit 35 or more home runs in a season in their starting lineup. With Soriano in the fold, the Cubs will next turn towards acquiring a starting pitcher or two." so who is right btwn the two? sullivan is a crock of you know what. country? mmmmmmmmmmmmmm tub of fake butter
  12. Padilla is better, he goes on first and cleans the hair.
  13. That's gotta be Lugo because I think Drew is out of their price range now Well then I hope we are getting a good starting pitcher in return for Jones because Lugo is a downgrade from him in CF. The other option you didnt mention is lil Sarge .
  14. They didn't say anything about moving Jones to CF? Again, assuming Bruce is right (do I even need to write this qualifier anymore), Murton is going nowhere so that leaves Jones as the odd corner OF out. By the way, nice job Bruce...every other outlet reported him as going to play CF. Scary how much assumption goes on in "reporting".
  15. highlights? I guess smashing the snooze button 5 times every day has rendered my radio basically useless.
  16. Assuming Bruce is accurate, I can't think of anyone other than Drew that I would want in CF than Jones. Lugo is going to cost nearly twice as much and is at best an equal hitter. I'd prefer to trade Jones and move Sori to CF where his production is more valuable because there are better options to upgrade in RF than CF. But I guess it all depends on what Jones could net us in a trade.
  17. hahahahahaha Yeah Brian, get the hell out of here you troll :)
  18. The one thing better than leading off a game with a HR is leading off the game will multiple runs. A guy who can get on base better and costs significantly less allowing you to invest elsewhere is better than the half dozen or so leadoff homers Sori will hit. Drew, Lugo>>>>>>Soriano, Izturis Drew = injury prone, no thanks. That opinion holds water 3 years ago.
  19. The one thing better than leading off a game with a HR is leading off the game will multiple runs. A guy who can get on base better and costs significantly less allowing you to invest elsewhere is better than the half dozen or so leadoff homers Sori will hit. Drew, Lugo>>>>>>Soriano, Izturis
  20. His wonderful leadoff #s are because he hit leadoff last year. Look at his leadoff splits before last year. If he batted 9th last year his career numbers would look like he should bat 9th because he was most effective there.
  21. Wow, so only 500K for every additional run. If the yankees worked under that assumption their team would cost 500M. Just food for thought.
  22. I would be willing to guess that more than half of walks drawn by power hitters are "intentional unintentional". The key is to be willing to accept them. Half of the INCREASE. So you are saying that Sori wasn't a power hitter before last year...well then thats a risky move to give him 136M.
  23. If he has a season like last year again, then I dont think there's a better FA option out there. Soriano's production last year is basically equivalent to Drew's career numbers. Right. Except that Soriano will more than likely play everyday. Drew's much more iffy. Drew's last three years say hello. (And don't count his broken hand against him.)
  24. Pierre- .292 .330 .388 3 HR 58 SB Soriano- .277 .351 .560 46 HR 41 SB Ohh, I didn't realize that every player repeats their numbers from the previous year. Thanks for letting me in on that secret. Jeez, that makes a GMs job so much easier. I would say that our team is looking pretty good now...except I predict its really going to hurt us when DLee breaks his wrist. And too bad ARAM won't step up when we need him. Hey, lets trade for Suppan at the deadline, he won't have a ton of value at the time but I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that he will do really well in the playoffs!!!! Man I bet the Rangers are pissed that that this rule that you have wasn't in effect when they trade for Sori. Thanks for the update! Calm ... down ... Alright, now that your calm. Even if Soriano reverts to his Texas numbers (will not happen), then he is still going to hit 30+ home runs and have a decent arm in center. Will Pierre have those things? No, so it is at least a pretty big upgrade over our production last year from CF. And taking salaries into consideration and OBP.... (when you can use OBP as why someone isnt a significant upgrade over Pierre thats sad, really sad).
  25. I think he did turn a corner. In addition to adding about 25 walks, he also struck out more, because he was seeing more pitches per at bat. If he posts a 340+ OBP, we have ourselves the offensive equivalent of Andruw Jones in CF. Sure, he's probably overpriced and not as good as Jones, but we got some firepower now. Half those walks were intentional and the other half could very well have been intentional unintentional walks. I'm not sold he turned a corner in plate discipline as much as everyone thinks.
