  1. I hope he pounds the cover off the ball for Cleveland.
  2. See, I agree with you here. They may have asked for a similar player, but it doesn't make sense for them to actively desire and seek out that type of player, which means that acquiring such a player does not necessarily make it more likely the Cubs will acquire Dunn. It's not logical to ignore a better interpretation simply to achieve your desired results.
  3. If it's logical then why is it patently so unlikely?
  4. But you haven't. You've stuck the moves together in a pattern that results in the Cubs getting Dunn, but you haven't considered the reasoning behind the individual pieces, and you've simply eschewed more plausible and far less complicated explanations.
  5. That's only because you lack all the necessary information to figure this move out as part of the Dunn trade. An absence of contrary information is not confirmation of a poor hypothesis. Unless you're able to provide some actual reason behind these moves rather than simply shoving them into a loosely-fit framework, you haven't developed a logical trade proposal. This is not coming from someone who dislikes Dunn, or the Cubs, or wants this sort of thing to fail. If Gerut brought us Dunn I would be completely ecstatic, but I refuse to interpret such an insignificant move as divine portent when there are better explanations available.
  6. No, its bits and peices of information that have been peiced together in a logical manner to come to a conclusion. This, in science, is called a hypothesis. In the tearms we speak in now, it is speculation. Now, no doubt it has holes. but when you put it all together, it does make sense. It makes no sense at all. Why would Cinci actively seek out and desire a mediocre outfielder as part of this trade?
  7. That's not a lot to stand on. Thats why we call it speculation. Speculation implies reasoning rather than guessing. Because it is. When you add together hendrys track record. The information from Vance's souce. The comparison of lane and Gerut. That is reasoning. Vance's conclusion based on his source contradicts your arguments here, your comparison between the players is suspect given a relative lack of information and Hendry's track record hardly guarantees success. It's just a lot of guessing combined with baseless hopes.
  8. No, it isn't. It's possible that Lane has an upside that interests Cinci. It's possible, like Vance suggested originally, that they're asking for the best from any given system and aren't trying to fill very specific roles. In fact, I think the latter is probably the most likely alternative.

  10. Like I said, I don't know much about Lane, but Gerut looks like a role-player. If that's what Cincy is looking for, they could get one anywhere.
  11. Which is why it also doesn't make sense to me as a precursor to another trade. Gerut isn't anything special.
  12. He's a veratile bench player now that Greenberg's head is broke.
  13. I don't know much about Jason Lane, but all Jody has established is a future as a role-player.
  14. Derrek Lee's first full season: AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS .233/.318/.414/.732 What a pathetic loser. For EVERY derrek Lee you pull out, I could pull out 10 that didn't turn into him. At least 10 probably a larger ratio. I don't doubt that. The point is that Dubois' career, or his shot in the bigs, is hardly over. He still has the potential to turn into an impact bat.
  15. This is still the most realistic theory. Dunn will never be a Cub, not until he's 36 and totally washed-up.
  16. Derrek Lee's first full season: AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS .233/.318/.414/.732 What a pathetic loser.
  17. This move makes a little more sense if you assume that: 1) Greenberg's injury is worse than we know and 2) The Cubs don't view Grieve as a viable reserve outfielder. In that case, Gerut becomes the backup OF and a left-handed bat off the bench.
  18. Check transactions. It seems like a lateral move.
  19. Pierre's three-year splits at Wrigley: AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS .194/.324/.194/.518
  20. That would be a tough argument to make.
