  1. The '03 Tigers won't have any effect on Trammell's job prospects. Everybody in the game knows what was going on there. I don't believe anybody is being "groomed" to take over for Piniella. They've been focused on this year. If Trammell doesn't take over for Lou _ and we're a long ways away from that _ you've still got Pat Listach and Ryne Sandberg in the organization.
  2. As long as the current ownership owns the team, it can do whatever it wants. See Zambrano contract extension. Hendry has his own option clause anyway.
  3. Emmanuel Lewis, indeed. I fixed that. Funny, but I never even watched that show. Maybe I need a day off. As to other questions: Fukudome won't see much playing time; Howry may be getting back into good graces; Lou says he isn't sure what you're going to get from young relievers; Gaudin maybe by the end of the week or the end of this weekend.
  4. Here are a few things for the afternoon. The Fukudome thing is "interesting." http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/568
  5. I'm told getting the visitors clubhouse was the Astros' choice after all. I guess they wanted the more "familiar" clubhouse. Homefield advantage indeed. Bruce, if you get a chance can you find out why it took so long for them to officially postpone and move the Sunday game? Tell them a rabid Cubs fan in Louisiana almost drove to Houston yesterday because as of 5 pm, the Astros site still said there was going to be a game... :D It's MLB. That's why it took them so long. Game tonight is on WGN local in Chicago only. No superstation coverage. If the White Sox get rained out, ESPN will pick up the Cubs. Son of a bitch. Is this because ESPN didn't want the Cubs on WGN nationwide, or did the Cubs not even push for that? The Cubs had to get ESPN to agree to allow them to televise at all. So this was the best they could come up with.

  8. Hey, look at this, the Cubs have the home clubhouse and dugout here. I bet Drayton won't like that.
  9. I don't look for any games tomorrow. I've never known a team to travel that length on day-of-game. The Cubs tell me they're still waiting for a resolution among themselves, MLB and the Astros. As I blogged the other day, Miller Park would have made a lot of sense. The Astros could have been the "home" team, and the gate money could have gone to them, with MLB even dipping into some of its vast reserves of money to cover anything else. If you play the games in Houston, could anybody get there, and is baseball a priority with the public down there right now? I don't know.
  10. Thank you! Best postgame ever, though. A classic. In my time anyway. I wasn't covering when Lee Elia went off.
  11. Lou finished before we could ask about the bunt. But I will tomorrow.
  12. Any word on what the plan for Pie is these last few weeks? Not until we talk to Lou. Heck, the way Edmonds has been playing, they might as well run him out there. Until now, the plans have been defense and pinch running.
  13. Wells and Pie. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/515 Yes, Atkins will be added to the 40-man this winter.
  14. Picture of RICH Hill on scoreboard during Koyie Hill's at-bat. They took it down now.

  16. They wouldn't know how to work it.
  17. More on Lou and Matt: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/503
  18. We have a winner. This kind of stuff has been going on forever. His teammates don't like it, but they move on.
  19. He's turning into one of my favorite people. He came up to me afterward to say thanks. I asked him why he didn't say anything in spring training, and he said, "Because I wasn't a major-leaguer." This guy would be a nice backup on a lot of teams. But he wanted to be a Cub, even if it meant playing in the minor leagues most of the year.
  20. Monday: McGehee Hoffpauir K. Hill Wuertz Guzman Lieber That's what they tell us anyway.

  23. You gotta be kidding, Fred!! Didn't know you kept that one. BTW, got a couple of e-mails from math majors today who said Cubs aren't 30 games over. 500, the'yre 15 games over .500. I should have corrected their grammar.
