  1. Moreover, he's not the impact RF we really need.
  2. G-d forbid any of us be anything other than hyper-critical. The team has been disappointing for 2 years. Dusty is stubbornly ineffective and misguided in his approach. JH did a poor job during last year's offseason. Now lets give them a chance to right the ship. Things are starting to move along; lets see what shakes out.
  3. I'm sorry but this is hilarious!   Agreed - brilliant post by Kess. I used to got to war with him on a daily basis, but I now I worship at his altar!
  4. If it isn't the Cubs who the heck is it who's lurking out there? My guess is Seattle, but I am not sure why I think that; its a gut feeling. It reminds me of the Vlad Guerreo stuff a couple of years ago, when no one was mentioning Anaheim as a potential suitor.
  5. Part of me wants it happen so that Hendry can move on and get that impact corner OF bat we're all pining for.
  6. I think we should also ban inflammatory and potentially offensive words like: stinks, darn, rats, crap, and LaRussa. Anything that might allow even the slightest bit of personal expression -- let's be rid of it. Especially on a place like an Internet message board. I narrowed my focus to sigs and avatars, not posts. But thanks for putting words in my mouth.
  7. That's a good point; I sort of toyed with it earlier. I was thinking that we have not heard much about Furcal for about a week. May be Jim figures, "I can get Pierre without spending all that money, which is better used on bolstering the pen and acquiring a corner OF who can hit between Lee and ARam? Plus, I have an in-house option for SS who is cheap..." No, not Neifi. Ronny.
  8. I know its neither the nature nor the point of these message bds, but I think we need to chill and see what Jim does. I am not resigned to anything until I see the finished product. And just to throw my two cents in, I think that avatars or sigs which refer to Cubs management or players in deragatory or inflammatory terms should be barred. If I can't have a user name that says "Dusty is the Best" b/c it would cause unnecessary arguments, then no one should be able to have avatars and sigs that are demeaning and insulting to Hendry, who I (for one) still support and admire.
  9. thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you So the NL All-star team then? Since when does "better than league average" mean "All-star?" How many teams have a guy whose above the league avg. at every single position? None that I can think of. Not even the Yankees. they very easily could though. it's not an impossible notion depending on how you want to define "league average production," ie OPS, BA, etc. C'mon now...if I wanted I could make an argument to prove that I am Almighty G-d, but that's not true either.

  11. If that is accurate it contradicts a statement he made to Mac, Jurko and Harry earlier today. I think we can conclude that: 1) Levine is on drugs; 2) Levine is hoplessly incompetent; or 3) There are actually two Levines. Ooooooooohhhhh.... :-k
  12. Many would agree with that macias statement. I am not one, but many would...
  13. Pinto - unnknown position player (Greenburg seems like he isn't enough, but what do I know) - Novoa makes some sense.
  14. Cause they feel guilty for almost ending his career?
  15. I think we can change the title of this thread to "confirmed". Levine says its done. And Levine says both the Sox and Cubs will be in the hunt for Pierre.
  16. Per Bruce Levine: Phils get Rowand and two left-handed minor league pitchers. Can't recall their names. EDIT: Hagworth and Gonzales are the two picthers.
  17. Not according to Olney (source was his ESPN radio appearance, BTW). This money comes from divesting themselves of Thomas and Everett, leaving $ for Konerko if he chooses to come back. Thome appears to be headed to DH-land. Nice job by Kenny Williams.
  18. Rowand to Philly for Thome and (Olney speculates) a lot of cash (as much as $25 mill). In addition, he emphasized that the Marlins fire sale is not over.
  19. I'd love to see a return of the Brooklyn franchise. Of course, Big Stein would just assume lop off the potruding parts of his body before he'd allow that to happen.
  20. Exactly. And now that it sems that the signing will be announced, does anyone care to wager on how many pages this thread will top off at? Shall we set the over/under at 51?
  21. I gotta think that Joe knew what the plan was when he signed on. He has a great chance to develop some youngsters around the two cornerstones of that franchise (Willis and Cabrera). I think it also means that LoDuca may be the only one who is spared a ticket out of town. My hunch is that Joe wants a veteran backstop to nurture the Younglings who will be toeing the mound for the Fish over the next two seasons.
  22. I am a Hendry supporter, but of that happens I'll jump off that particular bandWGN.
  23. I don't know if rebuilding is even the word, as it doesn't sound like they're willing to put a little extra money in the team in the next 5 years if these prospects do pan out to put them over the top. If they're going to hold the budget down until they move to another stadium, I wouldn't call what they're doing rebuilding. They're going young and they're probably going to stay young for awhile, they may not keep all these guys around for a title shot as they start to mature and make a little more money. I don't think its fair to make that assessment until we see where thy end up in 08'. And I don't blame Loria one bit for wanting to jump to Vegas, or Portland or wherever. They've won two tiles in thelast 8 seasons and have been in the thick of things in two other years, and yet the only team with worse attendance is/was the Expos. Pathetic.
  24. I don't think he's been promised a chance to start since he first came up with the Cards.
