  1. eat crow everyone who thought aramis would hit higher than .200 oh wait we've only played for two weeks That's the spirit. Spin whatever seems good into something negative. That wasn't spin. That's just Treeman's off-color way of saying "sample size". Call it whatever you like; I call it ridiculous. Maddux is the one bloody thing that is going right for this team. I say we enjoy it.

  3. Fine, but when you lead off with "he's terrible", a general, sweeping, and incindeary statement, you should know that people are going to take umbrage. IMO, he's been bad at the plate in general, but very good on the field and on the bases.
  4. No one is talking about long term extensions for Cedeno, Murton, and Ramirez. Where has anyone been unreasonable about Pierre in this thread? That's not the point. You said he has been "terrible"; then I guess some of your more favored guys have been terrible too, eh? We all favor ARam, and for a guy making over 10-mill year, he's been putrid. Ready to give up on him yet? Um, that's exactly the point. Or did you not notice the thread title? Yeah, I got it, thanks. But you can't talk extension without talking performance, and the above assessment of Pierre's performance thus far lacks in what you might call "credibility"; it deserved to be called out. He's been bad or below-par, not terrible.

  6. That's an overstatement. He has been bad, not terrible.
  7. It lowers your BA as though it were an out, so it must lower your OBP as well, no?
  8. Cuse: See the above. I've watched Jones whiff at inside fastballs just about every day since he got here. He might finally be making an adjustment.
  9. That's the best assessment I have ever read on this bd. regarding any player. Honesty is refreshing.
  10. Maddux is so far ahead of the rest of our starters....someone else insert the hyperbole.
  11. That's a pretty charitable paraphrase. Which is why I noted that it was a paraphrase. I never claimed to be Woodward or Bernstein. Since there is a tendency to rush to judgemnt around here these days, I thought it important to judge JJ's thoughts based on what they actually were, and not what was posted above. If you don't like my qualifiers, go do your own research.
  12. Well then, if Cedeno was so "obviously" playing him to pull in such a sever manner, shouldn't Walker have been playing virtually up the middle?
  13. No, just sadness for me. . . How about we don't write the season off and instead start directing hostilites at Johnnie B. Jr., the Cardinals, and White Sox Definitely - b/c its Baker's fault that Lee got hurt. Perhaps the injuries haven't been Baker's fault. However, poor decisions made in trying to adjust to those injuries are. But I won't go into those mistakes here. Lots of other threads about those here and elsewhere. I don't disagree with that general statement, but it does not address my post, which degrades the "blame Dusty", knee-jerk stuff that I dislike. Go ahead and let Dusty have it when he deserves it (like yesterday's double switch), but directing "hostilities" at Baker b/c our best player was involved in a freak accident (thereby severely dimishing our prospects) is dumb.
  14. Either the Herald or you missed the end of that JJ quote (which appeared in this morning's Trib). It ended with (paraphrase): "I've got to do a better of job of taking walks." In any case, what you posted above is not accurate. It omits the context /follow-up.
  15. I'd do that in a heartbeat, though I don't know Johnson's contract situation, and where would he play come late-June?
  16. He has? How do you define maturity?
  17. Very insightful.
  18. Agreed, but that double switch in the 5th was not a brilliant move. Moreover, Cedeno appeared to be out of position on Pujols' single; he did not hit it that hard. I kept waiting for Ronny to appear in the middle of my screen to scoop the ball.

  20. Holy cow, could we wait a week or two before we conclude that they have given up?
  21. Have Thanksgiving Dinner. ..ok, that was mean. I'm sorry. :D Agreed - very well played. And perhaps true.
  22. That would be my fix as well, but I doubt Dusty sees it that way. Wouldn't mind Neifi in late-inning duty, but I think Hairston is the odd man out with the Dusty dice. not so far. lets hope he continues to make good decisions.
  23. Dude, I don't mean to be a dick, but come on. The least you can do is spell our MVP candidate's name right. Derrick, please. That's not even close. As for this team, I would hardly call it great, I think with Lee in the lineup we have a decent team THIS YEAR, but that's only because the NL isn't very good as whole this year. I don' care what anybody else thinks or what Bob's personal statistical opinion on the matter is. This team isn't going to make the playoffs this year without DLee playing for a couple months. Honestly, I hope somebody remembers this and, if we make the playoffs, ridicules me relentlessly for it. But I don't see Cubs 2006 and making the playoofs in the same sentence. Excuse me while I savage your post. First, you have been here long enough to know we discourage that sort of language. Second, who cares how he spelled Lee's name; I fail to see how that is relevant to what he posted. Now, back to the substance. I'd be shocked if JH even approached the Marlins re Cabrera. His behind is no longer on the line now that he has his extension, which means he is far less likely to pull a Steve Phillips or Brian Cashman and mortgage the farm to get a superstar MLer.
  24. We have riff raff like Bynum on the 40 man, so we can afford to do so. http://www.rhps.org/archive/pictures/riff_raff/riff_raff.0006.jpg Bynum? lol =D> Now all we need are some magenta-types: http://www.chaosproject.com/rocky/magenta_banister.jpg
