  1. That is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen posted here. Disaree with his position? Just say it, but don't degrade other members. Hope he pays you back in spades for that one.
  2. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> Thank you, Rocket Sauce. This post should be in the NSBB Member Guidelines. I agree with the above. I just wish others did too.
  3. That fact that this thread got started during a winning streak and a good start to a season where we are missing three of our five best players is telling. It tells me that some amongst us will never be happy. Yes, Pierre has been bad. No, I am not particularly happy with his start at the plate. No, I am not going to panic or start basing him yet -its April.
  4. Bingo. It has nothing to do w/ Ks or "he saved us last year" (and boy, is that getting old around here). People resent starters with multi-year deals for big(ger) money who are hitting below the Mendoza-line. And Burnitz wasn't as bad last year as Jones has been this year. Plus we have one more year of frustration.
  5. I agree that we should not boo Jacque, particularly this early in the year. I understand the frustration though, and I think its proof that Cubs fans aren't just sun-bathers and beer drinkers. They understand what they are seeing. Still, lay off Jones and give him a chance to do his thing. Just don't xpect him to be Barry Bonds. Be happy if he is a fatser Burnitz.
  6. I used to think that, but then I watched the team collapse in 2004 and 2005 (not to mention 2003) and I fail to see how Dusty could be a good motivational manager (in comparison to other managers) and allow that to happen. Good point. I stopped believing in it after last year. This team seems to have a different 'tude; I dunno whther Dusty deserves credit or not, but I do get the feeling that he is looser than he was in 04' and 05', and its trickling down. The team really seems to be enjoying itself, and I loved the shaving cream pie that Eyre gave Dempster last night. In a long season, the team needs guys like that, IMO.
  7. This would be the worst thing to ever happen. Not really. You didn't draft Benson to be a backup for 2 years. Agreed. And trading Thomas might allow us to get that 3rd rounder back. Jones is pushing 30 (IIRC) and RBs tend to take a swift downturn at that age. Plus he has never worked harder than he did last year, and wehave Adrian Peterson. Am I missing anything?
  8. Man, please. I was at that Barrett GS game. I am the pulse oft he Cubs!
  9. Nice win last night. If you can't dominate (and this team is not likely to), tehre's nothing wrong with coming back and winning games. It demoralizes the oppposition and leaves you feeling like you are never out of a game, which is important, IMO. Also, its VERY important to get fat on teams like FL and the entire NL West. Leaves you with greater room for error against the better teams, most of which happen to be in our division.
  10. When I saw it, I just knew a t least one thread would pop up here to address it. We should just sticky a Neifi-hate thread next to the Morgan thread. I don't know anyone here who likes the way he is used or the fact that he is even on the team, but some people here take it a bit far, IMO.
  11. That's actually a very good point. A needle in a haystack full of unrealistic suggestions and hindsight. He's expensive, but platooning him with a righthanded RFer would be tolerable, IMO.
  12. No no no. I turned it off in the 7th out of frustration, played some Madden 06', and turned it back on just as Jones hit his HR. You may send thanks and donations to....
  13. Problem is that 3 of his 4 starts have been bad, with lots of walks. Bad sign.
  14. What are you talking about?? I was completely losing interest until that happened There was nothing cool about that. He needs to take his aggression out on the batters and start pitching well instead of risking injury. Agreed. He obviously hasn't cozied up to Maddux like Murton and Marshall.
  15. Awesome; stupid; unable to control emotions; lacks concentration; walks far too many guys.
  16. Leave him alone. I know you are too young to remember, but just trust me.
  17. http://www.great-music.net/image27.jpg
  18. I think you hit on it - if they had a rep for being selective, they might get some more calls. But, like anything else, you have to earn it. In the meantime, I'll settle for Jones taking a pitch - any pitch - before May 15.
  19. Wright in his first full season put up a season better than Rolen's average(or on par with any season of Rolen's except 2004). I am guessing that, over the next 5-7 years, Wright will be Rolen and Cabrera will be Manny. This is my opinion based on nothing other than my hunch. Accordingly, I'll take Cabrera by a nose.
  20. Here is the score: Tony is a dick. Maddux was making the Cardinal hitters look useless. So what does he do? He resorts to the lowest sophomoric tactics one can think of. Then the other dick (Edmonds) takes a page from Tony's book and does it again. So? That's not my point. My point is that it happens all over baseball and people are acting like it is exclusive to LaRussa and the Cardinals. This kind of stuff has been going on in baseball for 100+ years. It's a non issue. Get over it. Maddux didn't get his feelings hurt, just some of you apparently. Maddux made em' pay with his arm. 'Nuff said.
  21. I agree - Lofton was a more powerful hitter with a better arm in CF. He plays CF like he's swatting at flies (Pierre is better in that regard), but its his one wekaness. That said, I think Pierre is better than Willie Wilson, though not by much: http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/wilsowi02.shtml Not a bad comparison.
  22. The fact that almost all of our prized pitching rooks are making an appearance during the first month makes me think something else is brewing, but who knows.
  23. I think Wright will put up Rolen-type nos.; Cabrera Ramirez-type nos. If that is in fact the case, I'd take Cabrera.
  24. According to espn, Pierre is 16th out of 24 qualifiers in BA, 21st in OBP, and 18th in SLG coming into today. He's also tied for last in walks and tied for 16th in runs. If that is how he finishes the season then he is not only bad, but he has no business being an everyday player, certainly not for a contender. Why would anybody be talking extension based on these numbers? I don't get it. I agree - if he finishes this way. Problem is that its the 4th week in April. May be we should revisit this at the Break.
