you're right, that does sound callous. in fact, it is callous. It is, but it's honestly how I feel. I prefer to be honest over politically correct. yeah, only a soft PC weiner would restrain from taking a few potshots at a guy who just died. Weiner? That's pretty callous. I remember Big Stein bringing Howe back several times in the late 80s and early 90s. Say what you will about him, King George has attempted to rehab several people with substance abuse issues. Off hand: Howe, Billy Martin, Strawberry, Gooden, Dale Berra.

More heat? Do tell... Havent you been reading this thread? It has been decided that since pierre runs fast, he will be better when it gets hot, because it is simply impossible to have any athletic ability in the cold, ever. That's a pretty gross overstatement. I believe that certain folks have asserted that Pierre's stats are better in warm weather.

Tony Clark's OBP: 2001 - .374 2002 - .265 2003 -.300 2004 -.297 2005 - .366 He's hardly a sure thing to bring our OBP up. Last year was his only adequate year OBP-wise since he hit 30 back in '02. Fixed misquote. Those years, IMO, were abberations based on sporadic use. In his prime he put up .360-70 OBPs, and did again last year. There's no reason a first basemam with a good eye can't do it again in his mid to late 30s. In any case, it allows Walker to slide back to 2B and keeps Neifi and Hairston out of the evreyday lineup. This is a good thing. And let me repeat that he is cheap, apparently wants out of AZ, and it ain't gonna take Rich Hill to get him (or at least it shouldn't).

I saw that yesterday and meant to post it here. I can't believe not one of those guys panned out in any way at the ML level. I guess that's why they are what they are.

A) He's actually underperforming his bad numbers with terrible numbers. B) He whined about not be supported enough even though he sucks and insinuated that absentee Twins fans are more loyal than Cubs fans (you expect Cubs fans to not respond to that?) C) He said he's being pitched around and needs to be more patient but continues to flail at crap first pitches. D) HOW MANY FREAKING TIMES DO PEOPLE HAVE TO HEAR THAT COMPLAINTS ABOUT A PLAYER ARE IMPLICITLY COMPLAINTS ABOUT MANAGEMENT FOR EMPLOYING THAT PLAYER? So you think the logical thing to do is to savage the guy in order to get a message through to management? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Write a letter; write an email. Stop watching the games on t.v. Stop going. Don't buy the merchandise. And I do expect Cubs fans to respond to his comments in the press, but they were booing him before he started that nonsense.

We keep looking to JH to rip people off with every trade he makes. You have to give up something of value to get something of value back in a negotiation. If Wuertz is what he appears to be - a guy who will have a 7 or 8 year career as middle innings man - then I don't have a problem trading him straight up for Clark. We need help now. Our team OBP is putrid. Clark can help. He had a .366 OBP last year, and was over .350 several times before that. If you give him the ABs, it looks like he will produce. If all we need to do is give up Wuertz or his ilk, lets do it.

Past Reds hot starts seem to indicate otherwise, although I do see your point. We're exceedingly lucky to be 12-8 right now. I disagree. We have more pitching depth and a much better bullpen than the Reds. The Reds have a better overall lineup. I think our pitching is more valuable than their hitting.

They haven't folded up the tents after losing three of their five best players for significant periods of time. Neifi has been used less than last year. Barrett looks like he is establishing himself as one the game's best hitting catchers. Walker is playing every day.

you'll find plenty of optimism here right now - but there are still things to critique. we're 3-2 in games zambrano has started, and that's all that matters. Well said.

Forgive me - I am sick of the recent phenomenon of glib and patronizing reactions to people with differing points of view. you mean like calling someones post dumb because you dont agree with his point of view? that makes sense. Technically that's not glib and patronizing - because it's overt. I think he's referring to sarcasm and condescension. Thanks for the helper; that's pretty much what I meant, but I am having a rough day at work and clarity is not my strong suit today.

I was at the Sunday night St. Louis game and half od the LF bleachers were bowing to him. That's a good start. I alos love his approach; even when he was struggling, you could see he was still trying to take picthesthe other way and make something good happen.

Are people panicing? I'm very glad the Cubs are having a winning streak, but it doesn't alleviate all concerns about the offense. Pierre has clearly struggled to date (as he did last year). I really hope he breaks out of it (and I think he can), but if he doesn't, the Cubs offense will struggle to be productive. Same could be said for Ramirez, though I have a little less concern about him. That's a very fair point, actually. The team OBP through Monday was an alarming .316 (not counting Lee). That is something to be concerend about. I just don't think Pierre is solely to blame, and I am willing to wait a liitle while longer before I take him, Ramirez and the other struggling components out behind the woodshed. Moreover, it should be noted that almost no one on the team (excepting Walker, Lee and Murton) has been taking walks with any regularity. I am rooting for Pierre to turn it around. And I think its stupid to refer to him as a "girl". You want to do that, put this in "rants".
