  1. I like it. Can you imagine all of the "Aramis doesn't hustle" crowd dealing with Andruw? Talk about exploding heads... I know. The thing is that Jones is so fluid that it looks like he isn't hustling when he is, IMO. Did you see his catch last night?
  2. Hendry already signed for another 2 years. No way the TRIB eats that salary. What a mess! I think Jim has one more year to turn this thing around. The tRib would eat one year's salary, IMO.
  3. And in Schaumburg!
  4. Andruw Jones in CF, please.
  5. Dear G-d, why wouldn't you be interested in dealing Pierre at his point? Its nearly 9/1 - just call up Pie for a look and let Juan play out the string with a contender. If you deal him in the next 48 hrs he can be on someone's playoff roster, and may be we can get a B-level prospect for him. Sheesh.
  6. Guess you and I see it differently then. I was enjoying the exchange of background info and discussion about career paths to front offices for non-athletes. As I said, there are plenty of our places for me to vent my frustration over his performance.
  7. I am not sure of the mechanics of it, but I always think of Jerry Krause when someone asks this question. Krause was a scout for the Sox, and years later became the GM of a basketball team. Now he's scouting for the Mets (or someone else in MLB, right?). Its weird how that works.
  8. What does that have to do with this thread? I thought this thread discussing Jim Hendry? Yeah, its discussing his professional background, with anectdotes from people who have met him, been coached by him, read about him, etc. Its not meant to be a flame fest, I don't think. "Flame Fest" are you serious? I simply stated that I wish he would apologize to us as Cub fans and until then I cannot respect him. I did not flame. I did not use insults I simply stated my opinion. I don't think this thread was intended as a place to state opinions about JH's performance; there are plenty others though.
  9. What does that have to do with this thread? I thought this thread discussing Jim Hendry? Yeah, its discussing his professional background, with anectdotes from people who have met him, been coached by him, read about him, etc. Its not meant to be a flame fest, I don't think.
  10. What does that have to do with this thread?
  11. I don't recall who it was who mentioned it, but I submit that expectations are not low and unfettered adoration cannot be expected at Wrigley any longer. The atmosphere changed in a big way after 03'. No more lovable losers - just losers.
  12. Looks like Dusty ought to post this in the clubhouse: http://www.snakesonablog.com/swp/wp-content/uploads/2006/04/snakes_on_plane.jpg When taken in context of what was happening in the game, that was probably the worst play of the season, along with Neifi's double-error.
  13. Fred is the stat master. His research is always top notch. Trust me, he doesn't support the decision; he was just posting to give you a window into what Dusty may have been thinking.
  14. Pagan by himself wouldn't have been enough. Now if we also include Bynum, that's a horse of a different color. :D Horse **excrement** of a different color, you mean.
  15. Lets get this straight - Dusty will not be fired. His contract will expire, and Hendry simply will not "retain" him b/c they agree to a parting of the ways. In other words, I doubt Dusty will be back, and I further doubt that Hendry will use the word "fired", "discharged", "terminated", or any other like term.
  16. My son isn't even born yet, and he already has a Cubs outfit hanging in his closet. Before my son was born he had the same. *sigh*
  17. The title of this thread could be a reference to the fact that I am sadastic enough to indoctrinate my 3 yr old son into Cubdom, as I was at a relatively similar age.
  18. Proven himself longterm in a crucial position? Wasn't that the big on Dusty when he was hired? How did that work out. "Proven managers" might be one of the few things more overrated than proven veterans. Joe Torre sure as hell wasn't proven, neither was Terry Francona or Ozzie Guillen, how about Scioscia or Brenly? Jack McKeon was the closest thing to a proven manager among the recent winners, yet he didn't win much of anything prior to the Marlins gig. All this proves is that catchers and weak hitting MIFers make the best skippers.
  19. Hendry isn't a young man. He's 5 years younger than Dusty. And he was around the college game most of the time. As far as I can tell, college baseball is even more "old school" in its approach than MLB. There aren't too many Beanes in NCAA. Hendry is a "baseball man", the kind of guy with relationships throughout the sport, and a complete unwillingness to think his contemporaries are anything but the best at what they do. I had high hopes for Hendry, largely because I ignored all the signs that he completely undervalued the walk (both in terms of negative value associated with giving them up, and positive value when taking them). C'mon now, Goony, I think we can all agree that "the game has pasted Dusty".
  20. I hope no one is in shock over this quote.
  21. \ Nevermind that. Grace-Sosa.
  22. I'm not betting on him being more productive (especially in the power dept.) due to his age an dinjuries, but relative to the salary he will command, I agree he could be a better choice.
  23. In chronological order, though it appears he believes the first one is the best. Neyer's best 3-4 combos
  24. When you announce for the Phils for 35 years, you get a lot of practice at that sort of thing  He must have been describing a Bears game.
