  1. Count me in on this one - I'm a Jew for Church.
  2. I wonder if Barry thinks he'd look good in blue pinstripes. Of course, we also have a somewhat dilapidated stadium, but it's a fixer-upper, with charm! And on the historical register fer cryin' out loud. C'mon Barry, you know you want to stay in the NL. And his Dad came to the Cubs to finish his career, so it would provide some real nice historic resonance. Let's hope he plays better with us than his Dad did when he came here.
  3. So why didn't 8 for Soriano get same reaction? If we do it for Soriano please do it for Schmidt. He's a 33 yr old pitcher with a history of injuries, and we are a franchise with long history of injured picthers.
  4. Not a lot of pop in that lineup, soapy...
  5. We're trading him for whoever is necessary to get the free agent pitcher's agents to think the Cubs have some leverage in negotiations. That's actually not a terrible idea, but then if we deal him for a pitcher, who is going to play in the OF w/ Murt and Soriano? Lofton? Manny Ramirez? \:D/ Supposedly they want at least Loney and LaRoche from LA. We can't touch that and shouldn't even try. Agree with your former point, completely disagree with the later.
  6. I don't know, but if the Cubs trade JJ they will need to get a slugger or a high OBP guy for SS or CF. And they're supposedly looking for a lefty bat this week. Unless you get a realy good hitter a JJ trade / sign someone else looks like a lateral move to me. I think we could be looking at Floyd, which would be fine if this were 1999.

  9. I think we knew the Zito stuff was a smokescreen, and I am not surprised to read that we are/were interested in Scmidt but think the money might be too much.
  10. If we are going to sign Lily and one of Meche/ Marquis/ Schmidt (please), who are we trading Jacque for?
  11. Marshall and Guz seems a bit steep for Jennings, no?
  12. Good Lord, that sounds like no limit poker to me. This is reaching epic insanity proportions. I've got to think most other teams are pretty shocked at the Cubs' suddenly changed behavior this offseason. I know it's shocking the heck out of me. Again, I think this is further proof that the change at the "top" was more significant than initially thought. Not necessarily. Most insiders over the years have said it was the Tribune's board, not MacPhail, that instituted a strict salary limit. Hendry's spending, in my mind, is a sign that the Cubs will be sold in the near future. So they are spending tons more with the hope of attracting investors? I am not an economist, but that makes little sense.

  14. Doesn't sound like you negotiate much. It's a start - it may not pan out, but let them work through it a bit before you label it a "dead end". Using that philosophy, the Nomar deal never would have gotten done.
  15. I'd much rather have Schmidt, and I still think (hope) Hendry feels the same. I think he's trying not to show his hand. I hope he can drive Zito's price up and force other teams to spend more to get him - it seems fairly clear that the mkt for Barry is bigger than the one for Schmidt.
  16. I like what he is saying here. The more I read the more I believe it was MacPahil who was holding us back all these years.
  17. This is good news. And whoever made those Sosa comparisons is just looking for something to be hyper-critical about.
  18. What happened? He took a knee and ran off the field into the tunnel like he has a plane to catch. I guess he could be going to relieve himself, but I sincerely doubt it. if you aren't joking you need to seek mental help Hey Jon and Rasin, may I reply in kind, or will you deal with this?

  20. And if he does will you join me in a nice crow sandwich?
  21. Again, you are viewing this through a baseball prisim or through the eyes of a team that isn't ready to win. You cannot ask the Bears D and special teams to keep winning games for them like this. Keep? This would be the second game that it's happened. Rex has still won them more than he's lost. They won the AZ and this game, and kept him in the first Minny game and in the Giants game when he was playing terribly at the start. How long before a good team takes advantage? Oh wait, that happened last week.
  22. Isn't it spelled "McCover"? It's Darrell McClover. Sarcasm He is good in coverage, so he's McCover.
