    Bo Hart comes to mind as well as Nunez. Wasnt Nunez a Pirates bench warmer? Nunez classic example, Pirates bench warmer, lifetime .249 hitter, never came within .38 points of .300 yet, hitting .315.

    The Card's are very good and such but, how is it Minor League re-treads like John Rodriguez hit .295 for them? Everything they touch turns to Gold, its amazing.

    Maybe Lawton will let it come to him today, since joining the Cubs he's roughly(quick glance at SportsLine Game Log) 5-25, 1BB, .240 OBP, I believe he may be trying too hard to make something happen.

    Let's see it took Maddux 8 pitches to give up 2 runs, Mulder will have three outs within 8 or less pitches.

    I think by "best matchup" he means righty-righty or lefty-lefty. If he looked at stats, Walker (who hits lefties pretty well) would be playing today. I knew it was reach to think he looks at the statistics.

    Heard Dusty on the Score griping about his starters recently not going too deep into their games. As result, his bullpen has been overworked, leading to him using the most rested reliever as opposed to one offering the best matchup. He actually said best matchup! That leads me to believe he at least looks at the statistics? Or is that a far too extreme conclusion?

    Here's a good one - I checked out SportsLine Game center and saw a 1st inning doughnut for the Cards, nearly wetted my pants until I looked further down at the rain delay note.

    vance_the_cubs_fan you're a teacher, correct? Back to lesson planning and getting your class room in order? I taught 7th and 8th grade Math along with 9th, 10th and 11th grade Geometry at a small parochial school, had fun but, made peanuts, non-Union as well.

    For me, the most frustrating aspect of this game: Watching Victor Zambrano get away with several hanging breaking balls to Lee and Ramirez while listening to Miller and Morgan talk him up as if he was more than an average pitcher.

    Agreed. Anyone but St. Louis would be alright with me right now. And I'm sure St. Louis feels the same way about us. But somehow I don't think they have to worry about the Cubs winning a world series this year. Chicago needs a world series, but White Sox fans would turn it into something horrible. They wouldn't focus on the fact that they were the best team in baseball that year, they'd focus on the fact that the Cubs DIDN'T win it. Instead of celebrating a win, they'd be looking for the first available Cub fan to put down. I thought of that but, there are plenty of Chicago Baseball fans who need and deserve a WS. The chance to see that WS Trophy paraded down Michigan Ave. is worth it...

    Why not? What have they to lose? Baker' not going to play Murton, might as well go with someone who he'll play and has played a competent CF in his career.
