  1. What does this even mean. There are still Chicago fans who think McCown is a young developing QB, rather than an older player with an NFL history. I'm still hearing it from Bear fans I talk to, even. I find that hard to believe. He's been around a long time. He even has a brother that's been around a long time- meaning that his name has been floating around enough to where no one should think he's young.
  2. The Hawks blew out a good team with Sheldon F. Brookbank playing forward. It's amazing how good this team is when they care about what happens. It was really nice to see Oduya lead the team in TOI with ~21:00. I'd like to see Raanta on Tuesday. The boys will play well in front of him. I'd like to never see Bollig and Brookbank both playing forward on the same night again. Bollig may be a reasonable 4th line player now but the net effect of having him in the lineup is double shifting Kane and Toews which will come back to haunt them later in the season when it really counts.
  3. Nothing wrong really, except that Versteeg might not be appreciably better than the guy he's replacing (Morin). I think as fans we remember the good from a popular former player and ignore or forget the bad.
  4. I suspect we'll see Versteeg out there soon.
  5. Hayes and Olsen are two players whose respective games were about size rather than speed so it makes sense that they went to an Eastern Conference team. They could both get a lot of time with the Panthers, certainly more than either would get with the Hawks. The Panthers also save about $2mil so really I see this as a win for both sides. Everyone assumes that Versteeg will slide in on the 3rd line with Shaw and Bickell. I wouldn't be shocked to see him on the 4th line with Kruger and Bollig on the 4th as more of a traditional checking line with Smith going to the 3rd. By the playoffs we may see McNeil on the bottom 6 instead of Bollig. I give Bollig a lot of credit for trying to improve his overall game. I've even seen him out there on the kill a couple times. BUt I'd still rather have a better player on that 4th line so that Toews and Kane don't wind up playing 20+ a night because Bollig can only be trusted for 7.
  6. That is from a foot note in the grantland article about what happened to Brian holloway's house. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9893855/brian-holloway-house Right... because Craig James was going to run right over the Bears defense.
  7. People keep expecting a Miller trade but it's hard to see who would want him that would also be somewhere Miller would want to go and would also be willing to pay what Buffalo would want. The Oilers, for example, could certainly use him and have scorers that they could use in trade but I doubt Miller would agree to a trade there.
  8. If I were Edmonton's coach, I'd be tempted to get back in the TARDIS and time travel to a time when they've drafted a couple decent defensemen. What's happened to Edmonton begs the question: Are the Hawks lucky or good by hitting on prospects like Shaw, Saad etal? They aren't St. Louis Cardinals lucky- as evidenced by taking Beach and Skille- but Saad was a steal with the 43rd pick as was Shaw in the 5th round.
  9. One episode was 10 too many.
  10. I doubt he's worried about being Wally Pipped so much as trying to prove his toughness (which fans and media have erroneously questioned before) and play for his new contract whever that might be.
  11. If he hadn't removed his helmet, the other idiot couldn't have poured beer directly on his head. It's not the dirtbag move of the century but it's still not something that people should give him credit for doing.
  12. I'd feel differently if the helmet had come off on its own. Taking it off his head is wrong.
  13. I have mixed feelings about Cutler playing in this game. If he winds up running for his life or gets a cheap shot from the dirtiest player in the league, that could make seemingly rushing back from this injury look like a really bad idea. If he plays poorly because he's not 100%- which I'm not convinced he is, than you'll have meatball nation clamoring for what's his face. On the other hand, this is the most important game of the season in terms of winning the division and Cutler if healthy obviously gives them a better chance to win.
  14. They wouldn't need to try the on side kick if their starting QB didn't get hurt. So instead Lacy gets a bunch of 8 yard runs instead of a couple long ones? That still favors the Packers. It was only one drive. Hard to tell how he might have done later on. At worst, he probably converts some 3rd downs and, if nothing else, keeps the Bears offense off the field.
  15. The first one was a thing of beauty from their perspective. The last one he never saw.
  16. ... and emery should get suspended; that was ridiculous. just a completely pathetic season from my flyers so far. The rules, as they're currently written, don't call for a suspension for what Emery did. That's an easy fix for next time however. I could see a situation where a goalie might want to fight a forward but there is no reason ever for a goalie to skate the length of the ice to start punching the other goalie. In other former Hawks news, it looks like Bolland may miss some time by having his leg cut by that Canuck's skate. I don't care how cumbersome those kevlar socks might be, the league should make people where them.
  17. DLR? i'm trying so hard to figure this out, even googled it. It started as a Second City Hockey reference and continues on at TCI. When the Hawks win by 5 goals, Everybody Wants Some by David Lee Roth is the song of the day. I had a feeling I'd be explaining that one but I also am pretty sure there are people here that also go there.
  18. Not a DLR but a dominant win anyway. The Jets announcers were very impressed
  19. I'd rather see Raanta Klause come to town closer to Christmas so he can learn the nuances of the NA game playing every night instead of once every two weeks.
  20. Looks more like she dropped a quarter down her shirt and was trying to shake it loose.
  21. At this rate, you may get to watch him in a team USA uniform in February.
  22. This team has a case of Dave Bolland syndrome. The symptoms are not caring enough about what happens in regular season games to dominate every night. It's funny, some of the guys that have really mailed it in are ones that may or may not make their team's Olympic roster, by which I mean I hope neither Keith, Seabrook or Oduya make their respective Olympic teams. That would give them extra rest plus put a chip on their shoulder for the second half of the season. Conversely, I could see Saad and maybe even Leddy playing their way onto team USA.
  23. Normally I'd agree but I'm toying with the idea of convincing myslef that Trestman's scheme is so good that a QB that is less of a gunslinger can actually run it better than Jay Cutler has. That should get me through the first quarter anyway.
  24. And only 4 non-shootout victories. I don't think the Lightning are as bad as people think. They've added some pieces and they have 2 legit stars in St. Louis and Stamkos. The Hawks are beating the teams they're supposed to like the Panthers and Leafs (who aren't as good as their record) In short, it's October, the Hawks are (mostly) taking care of business but it's a long season. You can't expect playoff intensity every game of an 82 game season from the Balackhawks. What you can expect is playoff intensity from whomever they play since they are the defending champs. The old guys look old and slow and are playing like they don't care. Maybe that opens some opportunities for younger players. I'm all for that. They'll rpobably get a chance to redeem themselves against the Wild. Hopefully they will.
  25. Anyone else struck by the fact that someone named careless posted this clip?
