  1. Note to Zambrano: Can you please give Mark Pawelek a call & advise him to do the same?
  2. With the upgrades to the bullpen & a lead-off man in Pierre & 30 starts from both Z & Prior & 25 from Wood the Cubs are a legit WC contender, if not a NL Central favorite.
  3. If you can pitch @ single A level baseball, then why not. This is as far as Skrmetta will get TY.
  4. Here's some #'s on Skrmetta: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/S/matt-skrmetta.shtml
  5. v.s. RH Pierre Walker Lee Ramirez Murton Jones Barrett Cedeno v.s. LH Pierre Hairston Lee Ramirez Murton Barrett Jones Cedeno
  6. As long as it includes Ron Turner's baffling playcalling and Ron Riviera's nonexistent scheme, and does not include second guessing Kyle/Rex, let it commence. I honestly don't see how one can second guess Rex given his recovery from the first 25 minutes of the game. Yes, he made some really stupid passes, but does anyone expect Orton to have done better? No. I don't blame Rex. Of the inexperienced QBs that were in the playoffs, can't a case be made that Rex played the best? How many TD drives did Eli Manning mastermind against this Carolina D? And with all those weapons at his disposal? No. After he settled down, Rex gained some decent experience and kept us in the game long after the D had blown it. I blame mostly the non-existent defense in this game. Tillman: can you say suckage? Any chance Tillman gets waived? Is Azuman a better shut-down corner? The secondary should definatley be a off-season area to improve. Build it around Vasher & Harris & the Bears will be fine.
  7. One major significant reason for the Cards sucess the last 2 years was their healthy starting rotation. IIRC,The Cards were the only team in MLB in 05' to have all starting 5, start 30+ games. We will see if their luck continues.
  8. Hopefully, not until Nov. of 06' when he is a FA.
  9. I like Vidro, but his injury problems scare me a little. I'm not to keen on trading Williams in a package for Vidro. I like JW's upside. Wellemeyer & Patterson, & maybe a low level prospect sounds a little better.
  10. The Cubs would have to trade 2 of these 3 players: Walker Patterson Wellemeyer & receive players that are not required to take up a 40 man roster spot in order to have room for Branyan on the 25 man roster, therefore it is very unlikely that the Cubs will have any interest in RB.
  11. Well, they're inheriting the players from a DJaxx team that steamrolled through the regular season. Minus a few big pieces (Murton, Nolasco, Pinto, and I'm sure a couple others). I hope the Iowa team is exciting and good -- it's a fabulous place to watch a game, and I take advantage of it every chance I get. Can't wait to finally see Pie. True, but they'll have some holdovers, too. They could field a team with interesting guys at every position, though with few standouts other than Pie. The staff could still be very interesting with Hill / Guzman / Marshall / Ryu / Valdez / Marmol as rotation candidates C - Soto 1B - Sing 2B - Lewis (I think he'll rebound a lot this year. He isn't as good as his 2004, but he's not as bad as his 2005) 3B - McGehee / Craig SS - Theriot / Coats LF - Bacon CF - Pie RF - Greenberg C - Reyes IF / OF - Hoffpauir SP - Hill SP - Guzman SP - Marshall SP - Ryu SP - Valdez RP - Brownlie RP - Pignatiello RP - Rohlicek RP - Wellemeyer RP - Shipman Naturally, the team won't actually look like this. Some guys will get hurt and others will get left at AA to make room for the roster fillers. Isn't Wellemeyer out of options?
  12. I was certain he would be a starter, the day he signed his 2 year deal.
  13. FYI for you die hard college football fans: ESPN Classic is replaying all the BCS games today. Texas/USC is on @ 6pm CST. Channel 208 for those who have direct TV.
  14. very unlikely. Clement's contract is ridiculous. My guess is Patterson will be moved for prospects who won't take up space on the 40 man roster. One of those prospects can take his place on the 40 man. However, the 25 man roster is out of room.
  15. The Cubs have not offically announced a Peoria staff. Chicago press conference Thursday at 11:00 am. Ill post soon after as we've been asked not to announce anything before that.... here's a link from Cubs.com: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060105&content_id=1291710&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  16. Ridiculous, if you ask me. My guess is Tejada is going no where. According to the Boston Herald, the Orioles want Andy Marte along with Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement from the Red Sox for Miguel Tejada. Talks between the two teams appear to have stalled. An executive told the Herald that the list of possible Tejada bidders has grown to six, with the Cubs, White Sox, Astros, Angels and, most recently, the Tigers also expressing interest in a trade. As for the Red Sox's offer, Ramirez's demand for some sort of contract extension, which could involve having his option years picked up at a somewhat reduced rate, hasn't caused a problem yet, mainly because the two teams aren't far enough along. 17. Here are some dates that may help some of you on the arbitration process: 01/05: »Salary arbitration filing begins. 01/08: »Last day until May 1 for free agents who rejected arbitration offers to re-sign with their former teams. 01/15: »Salary arbitration filing ends. 01/18: »Arb. figures exchanged. 02/01: »Arb. hearings begin. 02/21: »Arb. hearings end.
  18. I'm probably going to get bashed for this. But hear me out. If Prior wants more money then he should show he can stay healthy. I say if the Cubs can get Tejada and Bedard for him then do it. :D According to the O's FO, Patterson,Hill & Prior wasn't enough for Tejada & Bedard, that's if these rumors were even true.
  19. Will Cedeno & Murton get significant playing time this year? In your opinion, have they proven enough to be legit starting position players in this league? or should we expect them to be more in a platoon situation?
  20. Do the Cubs still hold the rights to Prior through the 08' season? or does this void of his contract change that?

  22. Sosa in his prime & during the HR race was very exciting. Those times were fun. However, Corking his bat, claiming he can't speak English in front of Congress & walking out on his teammates in 04' is all I needed to know about what type of person he is. His egotistical attitude got the best of him. No Sammy you are not bigger than the game, even though you thought you were. I will not miss Sammy. If I want to remember him, I'll tune in to watch CPatt swing & miss in the clutch. Quit living in the past Sosa lovers, it's over. What Sosa gave us as Cub fans in 04' is enough to forget him.
  23. Today was a pre-post season game, nothing else. Health was #1 priority for key players & the Bears accomplished that.
  24. 51) A repeat or better the head to head performance v.s. the Cardinals. The Cubs were 10-6 v.s. STL in the 05' season series.
  25. 73) Dusty will not be able to call on Remlinger to get lefties out 72) Prior,Wood, J.Jones & Grissom will all revert back to their 03' numbers 71) Corey won't be leading off 70) Hopefully, Corey won't be wearing Cubbie blue
