    No it doesn't, at least not to me. I love Walker, but the man simply cannot field. But neither does Jeff Kent, and he is a questionable HOFer. I am of the school of thought that the team is only as strong as the "Up-the-middle" defense. And right now, the Cubs up the middle defense is PRETTY bad. I love Walker's bat, and has always wanted him on the Cubs going back to his Rockies days, but the Cubs have got to get players who actually can field his position (not necessarily a GG caliber). If the Cubs decide to go with Cedeno at SS, then maybe Walker "shortcomings" at 2B can be overlook, but if the Cubs go with Nomar, or Furcal, or any offensive minded SS, then the Cubs have to find a good glove 2B, who provides decent offensive #'s. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think Nomar (if healthy all year) and Walker up the middle and in the lineup would be just fine. Yes, I would like to improve his defense. I'd take a player with a good bat and good D any day of the week over a player with a good bat and average to below average D. However, if I am choosing between a player with a below average bat and good D, and a player with a good bat and below average D, I'll take player #2 any day.

    Start playing the kids this year and next, and set the foundation for a consistent good team. I have no problem with Murton, Cedeno, Hill, Sing, Pie, Guzman, JVB, Greenberg, Bacon, etc playing once they're ready. But if you'd do that you'd need to hire a rookie-friendly manager.

    If you factor in what he brings to the plate, it more than cancells out any shortcomings defensively.

    I may throw my leftover change in there.... I don't mind, really. Working with customers all day long is a tough job, and they don't make a heck of a lot. I find that people who work with customers usually make the best customers. I try to help out any way I can, especially knowing some of the simpering fools that I have to deal with on a daily basis. I know they have it just as bad.

    I agree. I don't know why so many people think he should be traded. Neither do I, really. I think his defense is the big knock against him, but so what, he's got a little below average glove. You can't expect everyone to be on the level of Andruw Jones, Ozzie Smith, or Ryne Sandberg.

    So if not for a lucky ass single, we're no-hit today. by Derrick freakin Lowe. Sometimes I even think I could pitch at least 7 innings of 2-run ball against this team.

    But if you boo him, you'll hurt his fragile little feelings, just like when Cubs get booed. If you boo someone, then he'll go back to the hotel and cry himself to sleep that night because you were such a mean person. :roll: :roll:

    And would the Sox put Iguchi at short? Jim, I've said it before. If you trade Todd Walker and don't get a lot of value in return, you're the stupidest man in baseball. They'd be much better off trading Burnitz, as he's certianly gone after this year. Better to get something than nothing at all.

    The way I look at it...... Both the Braves and the Cardinals would likely be there without Jones and Pujols.......... the Cubs would have finished in AAA this year without D Lee.

    Few things can fire up a team more than a rookie who comes and tears up the league after being called up. The whole team can rally behind him.

    I'm glad I'm not a GM. Right now, I'm leaning toward keeping the infield the way it is (Aram, Nomar, Walker, Lee). I guess I'd be ok with trading Walker IF AND ONLY IF Cedeno would start at 2nd (or you sign Furcal and move one of him or Nomar to 2nd) and you sign/trade for a big outfield bat.

    What's Walker got to do w/ Cedeno playing? Hendry should trade Neifi if he cleared waivers..................if not DFA him and get what you can get. Then Cedeno can play everyday. I don't think Nef cleared. For some foolish reason Hendry pulled him back.

    So then what do we do with Murton? He can hit at this level (at least lefites). I haven't seen much of him on TV so I can't really comment on his defense. But would it really be worth it to bench is (so far) quite good bat just because of this percieved lack of power? And going back to Stone's comment.... I would not mind Furcal here (maybe a pipe dream of Furcal and Nomar up the middle for the best INF in all of baseball next year). However, if we trade Walker, it is not a given that we sign Furcal. And if we don't, then we're SOL with yet another hole to fill. And if we DO get him, management will overpay because Furcal's agent will know we're desperate.

    Yeah, but the orgainzation had an axe to grind with Sammy and was just looking for a reason to ditch him. They seem to want to throw Dusty a parade for the 'bang-up' job that they think he's doing here. Unfortunately, Dusty isn't going anywhere.

    I doubt the Cubs would be players, as the Cubs know how fun it is to hold large contracts with sluggers with controversy, but its worth talking about... Will we have enough to win the bidding war, though? I know we'll have a bunch of money to play with with Sammy's money off the books, but we have a ton of holes to filll.

    I couldn't eat two bags of oreos, probably even one. And I love oreos. But I have consumed a gallon of milk in less than an hour before, twice. I also ate 9 bratwursts loaded with sauerkraut in less than half an hour, though it incapacitated me for the better part of the day. But I did the milk thing, and it wasn't all that difficult.     Ok, its been proven a corked bat hurts it. And come on, for years and years we saw how far Sammy hit them. Cork, if it worked, would give warning track hitters power to hit it into the 2nd or 3rd row, not warning track onto Waveland Avenue. Believe me, I would have loved for Sammy to keep hitting them. Heck, I still wish he was a Cub at times. I miss him sprinting out to right field. I just don't believe the Cubs org. will retire a number forever in light of what happend at the tail end of his career. Just think of the 4 that are already retired, they still actively participate in Cubs events, always around the team and really show love for the Cubbies. Sammy, I doubt will do that. However if he does and the Cubs retire it...more power to him! I think the Cubs have enough class to bury the hatchet. Especially if we have a new management team here 6 years or so down the road. Loook at how classy we were when DK died. Not that Sammy has died and I'm not comparing a walkout to a tragedy, but I'm just bringing that up as an example of the Cubs having class.
