  1. I'd have trashed the Cubs too if they fired me just to appease some of their crybaby players. Stoney was the man. I never understood the sudden hate on him. You haven't heard a baseball game called unless you heard one by Harry and Steve. Those were good times.
  2. Wow. It's not just in our heads. We are historically bad (splits-wise) against LH pitching.
  3. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Take Hendry with you, please. Thanks.
  4. He was faster than hell, though. EDIT: Nevermind, I was thinking of Ced Landrum.
  5. Hooray! Baseball is back! How I've missed you. Now my wife can roll her eyes while I bitch about the game again. I bet she's missed that this winter!
  6. I guess ultimately what I'm worried about is the snowball effect if the naming rights are sold. Wrigley is a landmark. There is no disputing that. Half of the fun of going to a Cubs game is the Wrigley experience. Sure, it's just a name. However, if you sell the naming rights, how long before the ivy comes down? How long before the whole place comes down? How long before the street vendors have their licenses revoked? How long before Wrigley becomes "just another ballpark" because "it's good business?" Look, I love the Cubs, and I would go to see them wherever they played. But if you put them in a "modern" ballpark with jumbotrons, luxury boxes, a hotel, or god forbid a dome, would it really be the same?
  7. A ha! A very good question, sir. I didn't even think about this.
  8. God damn you, Sam Zell. And if there would be some company out there that would buy the naming rights and would just keep it as Wrigley Field, the PR for that would be oustanding, and I know I would become a customer of whatever company it was just because of that move.
  9. I don't buy this argument as a defense. We could be one hell of a lot better, too.
  10. No Kyle Farnsworth? Blasphemy!
  11. Anything that can ensure that I can take my yet-unborn children to their first Cubs game at Wrigley Field like my dad did for me I'm in favor of.
  12. my guess is they'll do something very similar to Soldier Field, wherein they retain the facade of the park and gut all the stands /clubhouses and start over As long as they keep the big things that make it Wrigley Field, I'm ok with it. Keep the scoreboard, the Ivy, the brick, the bullpens along the foul lines, and the Wrigleyville atmosphere. Don't give me any damn jumbotrons.
  13. Then go north to Milwaukee. The Brewers don't completely hate us, I don't think. Go half and half. 40 games or so in Milwaukee, and 40 games in the Cell.
  14. They should play a few games in Milwaukee, too. They'd sell the place out.
  15. I've lost a family member to alcoholism. I applaud his being self-aware enough to get help.
  16. I love the knuckleball. My friends and I used to throw it to each other when we were just hitting balls around. Mine would never flutter for whatever reason. They would barely spin, but they'd be straight as a damn string and get hit into the next county.
  17. They should be renamed The Galloping Geezers.
  18. It's full. However, you're welcome to join the other league I'm running. You and anyone else who reads this message. It'll be same format at the other league, although I have no earthly idea when I'm going to hold the draft. I know for a fact it'll be sometime in March, but that's all I can tell you. There's a ton of spots left. League ID 88460 password: baseball
  19. I thought they signed Shawn Michaels I did too. I saw that as "HBK"
  20. Can he play 2B? Hendry hasn't splurged on a 2B man in a while.
  21. I really feel sorry for the Reds. I hold no ill will toward them. They don't deserve this. Why couldn't Dusty have gone to St. Louis instead?
  22. ESPN pisses me off this way. Whenever they do an extended piece on a National League player, they'll always show him doing well against the Cubs. Just watch the next time they do it. If he's a pitcher, there's a 90% chance they'll show him striking out at least one Cubs batter. If he's a hitter, you'll see him hitting a home run or stealing a base or making a great catch against the Cubs.
  23. I won't worry about draft time until I get the league filled. Then I'll ask everyone when they're available and set a draft time from there. I need one more spot yet. If you guys have any buddies or anything looking for a competitive league, send them this way.
  24. We root for the Cubs. I agree. Cub fans have very little right to go calling ANY organization "pathetic."
