  1. Hendry said this was not in response to Sabathia. I believe that to a point. But you can't tell me that Hendry didn't step up the talks after the CC trade.
  2. Looking at his numbers he can be useful. He can be the long man or even spot start if needed. I'd have rather given up Marshall than Gallagher, but whatcha gonna do? Still a good deal.
  3. 3/2 on the 40 man front, means they can add somebody. I'm guessing only Marshall has options, which makes him the obvious choice to leave the current roster. I believe they've got to consider calling up a bat though. Hoffpaiur?
  4. he's got a $7M club option for next year Man, that's gonna be awesome going into opening day next year with a 1-2-3 of Z/Harden/Demp. If Hill can get it together, that's a hell of a rotation.
  5. i would agree with that. i just don't see this trade having the potential to bite the cubs in the ass. i guess gallagher has the highest ceiling of any of the guys leaving, and i don't see him as anything more than a #3. should have waited until after tonight's game so murton could hit against harang though. Don't say that too loud.
  6. Ok, who here honestly thought that Hendry would get the best of Billy Beane?
  7. Agreed. He was a class act and I wish him all the best on his new career path.
  8. You know, I had a feeling something like this was going to happen. I was playing computer games and just out of the blue saved and quit and came here because I had a feeling something was going down. Biggest trade since Nomar. Hopefully it'll work out better for us, though.
  9. Olney's right. We didn't match the CC/Brewers trade. We made a deal that was WAAAAAY better (assuming of course that Harden is, and remains, healthy). This is true. The four guys we traded wouldn't have even been worth LaPorta. I'm going to the Cubs/Brewers game on July 31st in Milwaukee. What does the pitching matchup project to?
  10. I've seen all but Wall-E, which I plan to see soon. It seems that ever since "Incredibles", the movie quality has still been fantastic, but they haven't done nearly as well at the box office as the others.
  11. None. Thanks, Mr. Sabean! Why would they trade him? They have a hell of a 1-2 with Lincecum and Cain, and can rebuild around those two. Why trade that away?
  12. I think I like Hudson better than Harden/Burnett/etc. I'd go hard after him first. Z/Hudson to counter Sheets/Sabathia? I could live with that.
  13. I was actually thinking about that. Marquis would help balance out the salaries for 2009. Then the Royals get out of that deal. I do think it would take quite a bit to get Meche though. Probably a ML ready pitcher (Gallagher/Marshall), a ML ready position player (Pie/Cedeno?) and a young arm with a lot of upside, in addition to Marquis. We're trying to land a front-line starter down the stretch to help us make the postseason. I am not at all in favor of trading garbage for garbage. Maybe in the offseason, but not now.
  14. I'd be OK with Harden, too. What about Cliff Lee or Aaron Cook?
  15. I second that! Murton for Kazmir, straight up. If they balk at that, then ask for Sheilds.
  16. This is one move that can't go unanswered. Now Hendry needs to step up pursuit of Harden, Burnett, etc. Dangit, I wanted CC. Stupid Brewers.
  17. Some guys are timed with a stopwatch. Ward is timed with a calendar.
  18. Typical Cubs/Cards tilt. Do blowouts ever happen when these two teams play. I think I remeber a game in 98 where the Cards scored a bajillion runs in the first inning but that's about all I can remember. We were blowing them out the one year up 8 I think and proceeded to lose on Pujols' 3rd bomb. Taguchi of all people went deep too, what an awful game that was. July 20, 2004. I was at that game. They put up 8 on Matt Morris and led 8-2 after 3. That was also the game where Hawkins went apepoopy.
  19. Lets hope the Dodgers can step up their offer here. While Id rather CC stay in the AL, Id much rather him go to the Dodgers. Also, the Dodgers might be inclined to outbid the Brewers if it comes down to it, as they are more likely to be able to offer him an extension. If they're truely serious, they migh need to add Kemp, Ethier, or Loney to the deal. What if we were to try to get in the action with a 3 team deal and get Brad Penny or Derrek Lowe from the Dodgers, just for the sake of blocking the Brewers? Long term we might be better off if the Brewers get Sabathia. why? short term it makes me nervous... i think the brewers are a little bit crazy to do this...and if they do they have to go after another bullpen arm... if they get C.C., they won't be resigning him and they won't resign sheets...so they are obviously in win this year mode You answered your own question.
  20. Frankly, I think Milwaukee matches up better with San Francisco than anyone else. San Francisco has good pitching, but they need help across the diamond and power bats in the worst way. LaPorta would be a great fit as a RH power hitter. Alcides Escobar would be a massive upgrade over whatever they trot out there at SS (as would many other people). Cole Gillespie would fit in nicely in RF. Angel Salome would be a good fit, considering Bengie Molina will turn 35 next year. I don't see why Milwaukee doesn't try making a run at Cain or Lincecum. I could possibly see them dealing Cain. I don't see them dealing Lincecum until his contract year if they're still terrible.
  21. I hate working till 3 on Saturdays. Stupid job. Lets win this series today and go for the sweep tomorrow!
  22. Nice to see that Z is looking sharp his first start back. Oh, I know I'm late (just got home from work) but... Geovany Soto.
