  1. Just saw that the Cards and Brewers both lost. I'd LOVE to go into the break at least 5 1/2 up. Let's get it done, Demp! And Marmol should only come into this game if it's the 16th inning and he's the last remaining pitcher.
  2. I stand by this: Lou either really, really likes Marmol and has zero confidence in the rest of the pen, or really really hates him and wants to destroy his arm and wreck his career. There is ZERO middle ground here. It's one or the other.
  3. Holy crap. I leave for the 3 pm showing of Hancock secure in a 7-1 lead, and I find out that we barely eeked it out and Marmol gave the game away? Geez. Marmol is broken and needs to be fixed. I don't know what the hell is wrong with him, but it's gotta be something bad. He's a key part of that pen and he needs to figure it out.
  4. Fred, what's the Cubs record when attempting to go 21 games over .500?
  5. With Demp going tomorrow we have a legit chance at a sweep going into the break. Although this team has been allergic to 21 games over .500 each time they've tried.
  6. Only 2/3rds of an inning for Gaudin? Isn't he supposed to be the long man? He could have pitched this inning, too.
  7. Cotts and God-in Petition to name him Rodan. (I thought it was Go-Dan)
  8. With Hill looming, I'd shop him around and take the best offer. We can get league-average production for a lot less than ~7 million per year. And most teams can't. I think Marquis may have some actual trade value. Maybe a B prospect. A lot of teams can scrape some guy off the heap and have him perform at league average or slightly worse. I don't know what Marquis had on Hendry to get that contract. As long as some team is dumb enough to take on Marquis's entire contract, I am not at all picky as to what we get back.
  9. If Harden pitches like this all year, I don't care if he doesn't get a single hit the rest of the way.

  11. Harden K's. Send him to Iowa and teach him to hit. This is completely unacceptable.
  12. I don't know. Stuff-wise? Probably. But I have to give the nod to CC simply because of durability. We made the better trade, though.
  13. that's it, cubs are taking over the universe. Holey Moley. If that Rich Hill comes back to the majors, our rotation is going to be freaking sick! It's already the best in the majors..and we still have marquis The best depending on which Lilly shows up.
  14. Yes. They are either going to make us all very happy, or crush all of us very hard this year. The team in 84 was the only one in my lifetime that could be close. I think the 69 team was great, we know how that ended. Edmonds would like to tell NSBB to suck it by the way. Did the 69 team maintain this pace this long, or were they already flailing by now? The '69 team tanked about late August, IIRC.
  15. Bring on Sheets and Sabathia. Do your worst! I'd match Z and a healthy Harden against those two anyday!
  16. 8 K's through 4! I'd love to see him post 15 and go the distance today.
  17. So what's in Harden's aresenal other than the fastball, straight change, and split-finger that he's not supposed to throw?
