  1. Let's hope. If we're going to suck this year, we may as well go all-out and lose 95 games and prompt a massive housecleaning.
  2. I'll give them that. Silva hasn't been horrible, and Bradley's replacement in RF has been damn good.
  3. Step 1: Trade for Jimmy Edmonds Step 2: Get a better bullpen Step 3: Show patience at the plate against lousy pitchers Step 4: Profit! We could have had Edmonds for cheap a few months ago. Step 1 was sarcasm. However, I legitimately find it odd that Edmonds didn't even get a sniff in '09 after how good he was for us in '08.

  5. It's really sad how good this team can look at times and how piss poor it can look at others. It's the Pirates, for god sakes, not the 1927 Yankees.
  6. That doesn't seem like a very constructive post. I think he should stop. Maybe you should ask him nicely. Sorry, I should have mixed in some variation of "ONLY THE CUBS" or "ballgame" or complaining about the team like they're the worst thing in the universe or how awful it is to be a Cubs fan. I tend to find it helpful.
  7. Have you ever considered that 2008 was a massive fluke year? All of them, fluking for an entire year? It's not unprecedented-- a team with a lot of guys who have career years or a team that plays far higher than it's talent level should allow.

  9. Have you ever considered that 2008 was a massive fluke year? This. The 2008 team was good, but nowhere near 97 wins good.
  10. You didn't answer my question. It's not hard. Yes or no? Yes, sarcastic remarks like "ballgame", or "of course something not good happened, it's the cubs", are orders of magnitude worse than speculating on Byrd being hurt, regardless of how valid the claim is. Your posts are not for your own benefit. Think. Thanks dad. And it wasn't sarcastic, either. And it reflects more on the people who call me out more than it does on me when I'm called out while still being technically right. It's not helping your cause to say that you weren't being sarcastic when you say "ballgame" in a 3 run game in the 3rd inning. Flippant one liners don't add to the discussion and they add to a culture of thoughtless nonsense when it comes to game threads. Please stop it. I'll stop, but if you warn me, I think a warning should be issued to all the other people (some mods included) who use "flippant one-liners" like "fantastic", "here we go" or "typical Cobs" that also add to the "thoughtless nonsense" in the Game Threads. But, seeing as I'm a nice guy and I'm the ONLY one who ever speaks negatively about our beloved Cubs, I'll stop. See, all you had to do was ask nicely.
  11. Moving on, has there been any word about a possible date for Z to move back to the rotation?

  14. good call Oh, the Cubs took the lead that inning? No, they made people who make trite remarks look really obnoxious. As obnoxious as trolling about Byrd being hurt?

  16. He better, because it's not like Aramis is going to do anything.
  17. it's just a waste of money. you have a guy making $10M and he's pitched twice in the minors, and he's better than most of the other pitchers in the rotation. what's the point of keeping him in the minors? Perhaps to get him ready for facing batters in the majors and not looking like he belongs in the minors?
  18. you really want a good starter using 3 or 4 of his 32 starts in the minors? Better than a good (albiet rusty) starter having 3 or 4 crappy starts in the majors before he gets his act together.
  19. I wouldn't be so sure about that. This is the Cubs, the same team that makes loser starting pitchers look like gods. My point is that conceding the game after the opponent scores one run in the first inning is silly. The game isn't over, but to think the Cubs would destroy Morton is laughable. This team lives to suck against horrible starting pitching. We got him for 10 runs in 1 IP last August, and this year he is 0-5 with an ERA over 10. Even the Cubs offense at its worst should be able to squeeze out a few runs. I live by this philosophy: Always keep three little words in the back of your mind... They're the Cubs. this is not me saying that we'll lose the game, this is me saying that I won't at all be shocked if they do.
