  1. How can it be easy? I thought the Cards had the easiest schedule in baseball to this point.
  2. The Cards were swept by this garbage team last week, and are now on the verge of sweeping 4 straight from the Dodgers. Do the Stros just play that much better in the Juicy Box? I will never understand this game.
  3. That was an awesome game. Sleep now.
  4. Weaver must have thrown a side session with Duncan before the game... Jeez.
  5. Wow. Thought DeRosa had that.
  6. Yes You still have to pay Miles salary.
  7. Can we trade you Thurston for Miles?
  8. Here's the youtube clip of No Reservations Chicago that is a great endorsement for the city. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U89K-i46Kaw
  9. Anthony Bourdain said that there are only two real cities in America (New York & Chicago), and whatever he says I'm running with! :) I've been to San Fran and really enjoyed it btw.
  10. Id be banned for saying that at GRB, oh wait, Im already banned for saying less than that :D Saying Chicago is a better town than St. Louis is worse than calling an established poster a "whiny little [expletive]?" For someone with over 10000 posts on a similar message board, you really struggle with understanding rules of behavior. Oh, it was a jab at the Cubs, and I shouldn't do that here. It is a Cubs board. But since this is a thread about Cardinal fans on the ledge, and in the General Baseball Discussion (formally the Rivalries) forum I figured I could sneak it in.
  11. I agree completely. Chicago is world class. Cardinals fans get mad when I say that because of some misguided baseball=life sentimentality regarding taste in cities. Yup. I choose to live here. It's a fantastic city, and deserves to be mentioned with the great cities of the world. My little jab at the baby bears is really a compliment to the city. The fans here (which I am a fan of the Bears and Bulls) are loyal to fault sometimes. They (we) love "our guys" and will root for them with only a few exceptions. There are still people calling into sports radio that would prefer Orton at QB because he's a "lunch bucket" kind of guy. Like a lot of cities, I think fans will tolerate average play from their athletes if they think they're the kind of folks they could sit down and have a beer with. Regarding St. Louis again. It's a nice "big Town" and I enjoyed my time there. The downtown has come a long way in the last 10 years and I hope it continues to stay on the right track. It will never be Chicago, but then again, I don't think you could say that of any US city. In my opinion there are only 2 true cities in the US. New York and Chicago. Everything else is either sprawl or big towns.
  12. St. Louis (metro area) is a nice Midwestern town. I would take it over 90% of the cities on the East Coast. Chicago is an amazing place to live, and maybe the greatest city in the world depending on how you judge those things. The only major downer is they have a terrible baseball team on the North Side.
  13. DeRosa hits his 5th HR in the last week. Cards 3-1 LA has hit into 4 DPs tonight.
  14. I'm not sweating at all. I'm looking forward to the next 8 weeks. Should be a great race.
  15. The difference between the Cardinals and Cubs is that the Cardinals can get rid of their major problems.
  16. Yeah, I don't think money is the key issue. They're gonna draw over 3 million this year. Plus the All-Star money. Plus what they would make by being in the playoffs etc. That and they have a lot of money coming off the books after the season. They can absorb the 7 and 15 Mil. The problem is giving up the years of lower cost controllable talent. So I guess money does factor in that way. I still think Halladay makes them a WS contender so I'm all for it as long as Rasmus isn't included.
  17. And people are saying the Cardinals package with Wallace isn't enough? The Jays appear to be looking for MLB ready or near ready talent. Marshall seems like he's "just a guy" otherwise he'd be pitching every 5th day now. Vitters looks very promising, but he's only 19 and at high A right? I don't know much about the other guys, but I figure it's the same for you when Cards fans mention Todd, Jones, Kozma etc. We ALL overvalue our team's prospects. With all the Halladay talk, it's going to be interesting to see if a team swoops in and gets Cliff Lee.
  18. I'm not counting on seeing him at all. They're saying a couple more weeks. They also said Glaus would be back at the end of May. Then June. Then after the break. I actually think you'll see the Cards sign him to a 2 year deal.
  19. holy hell And you thought the Soriano deal looked bad..
  20. Dont tell Cardinals fans this, hes the 2nd coming of Jesus if you ask most of them. No. I think most Cards fans (on the internet) understand that he's better suited for the AL because he has some serious defense issues. He can hit. He's supposed to be highly thought of by people within the Jays organization. If he's one part of a deal for Hallady I'll jump up and down with joy. He may never be a Felix Pie, but we can all hope.
  21. OUCH. Here's his deal as posted over at mlbcontracts. I don't see him opting out after 2011 :) 7 years/$126M (2008-14) * 7 years/$126M (2008-14) o signed extension with Toronto 12/06 o $25.5M signing bonus (paid in 3 $8.5M installments, March 1 2008-10) o 08:$0.5M, 09:$1.5M, 10:$12.5M, 11:$23M, 12:$21M, 13:$21M, 14:$21M o full no-trade clause o Wells may opt out of contract after 2011 o award bonuses: $0.25M for MVP, $0.2M for World Series MVP, $0.15M for LCS MVP, $0.1M for receiving most All-Star votes in league o Wells to donate $143,000 annually to Blue Jays charity
  22. I endorse this post ;) I'm not saying that Rasmus is on the way to the HOF. I just see his value as being greater now than a year ago because he's doing it at the MLB level. St. Louis is in the position where they have to field young affordable players to be able to compete. Rasmus is at the center of that.
  23. I'm not disagreeing with you. The word is, that Wallace and Kozma were both coveted by Toronto in the years they were drafted. Sometimes those draft waters run deep. I don't think this trade is going down, and if it does I don't know if it is really the best thing for St. Louis. Rasmus is an automatic deal breaker in my opinion.
  24. Quantity does not make up for quality. If Rasmus is as good as you guys seem to think he is qhy would the Jays want inferior prospects. They don't have to trade him. This fascination with Rasmus is mind bottling. If the Cubs had a guy like Rasmus and could trade him for Doc I'd be advocating for it as hard as I could. They can have Vitters and Castro and Cashner for Doc. The Cubs don't have a guy like Rasmus, and if they did, I can guarantee that most of the people on these boards wouldn't be in favor of trading him. The fascination with Rasmus is that he is a young 4+ tool player that will be under team control for several years. He's on his way to being ROY and may be a cornerstone of the organization into the next decade. He's also one of the only offensive weapons on an offensively challenged team. I wouldn't give that up for a Halladay.
