  1. Reason to be encouarged, indeed! Though of course a healthy dose of caution and skepticism is warranted. I infer that Hill remains very much in the Cubs' plans for this season, or at least Hendry's. I think his progress, modest though it may be, is one reason he was willing to assume the risk that comes with Harden. When the club says they'll give him an extra day or skip a start here and there, the wildcart could very well be Hill. (Not to mention Marshall, Gaudin, etc.; but Hendry clearly has the same visions of a lockdown rotation that this board does, and that points to Hill.) Keep it up, Rich! (Or should I say, keep those curves hitting the outside corner! )
  2. I can't believe I have butterflies before an All-Star Game, but I do. Thanks, Bud. Go Cubs! (plus assorted National League compadres) http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080715/capt.7378c5e998cc4ca4b843e177685961cb.all_stars_red_sox_and_cubs_baseball_ny159.jpg?x=400&y=236&sig=tAqJEUDIzHdpcyrFYtZKhg--
  3. Just to play the parlor game... The piece attributes the quote to an AL GM. I'm not one to obsess over the Southsiders, but I could see Kenny Williams saying something like that. Stoney's recent comments about Harden not pitching at the same velocity/ease could reflect what he's heard around the Sox org, i.e. hearing directly or indirectly Kenny badmouthing Harden's health. Plus the reference to hearing what Piniella wanted (not that you'd have to be in Chitown to have "heard" that), I could see Kenny telling himself that as a way of reassuring himself about standing pat before the deadline, as in "I'm strong enough to run my ship, and not let my manager dictate irrational deals."
  4. Probably the same reason Michaels is in the game for Nady. John Russell: master of the tactical retreat.
  5. Am I reading this right? Thought the Cards game would've been over.
  6. Lou said he has a blister and they'll hold him out.
  7. Lou: "We didn't have Wood at all today." Oh, he was referring to his blister btw, not, uh, something else. Out til after the break.
  8. In order: Guh, don't ask. He was extremely unsteady, I felt queasy on nearly every pitch. As advertised. No comment.
  9. OK, so now I'm feeling comfortable about Harden's health. But Marmol... :?
  10. It was ridiculously close Solid slide by DeRo, feet first to the 3B corner. Came in hard, looked like he timed the start of the slide just right. As it unfolded, I didn't think he'd beat it, but Molina had to swipe pretty far for the tag. On the replay, pretty sure he beat it, but it was about as close as could be without being a total toss-up.
  11. Something tells me this could get even stranger.
  12. I don't think I've ever been so looking forward to the All-Star Break. A lot of guys need some time off. At least Marshall's hook is dropping in for strikes today...
  13. I really didn't think this was going past 10. Sigh.
  14. Thank you, OleMissCub, those are awesome and always welcome.
  15. I'd settle for a split. If not, neither Fogg nor Duke should expect any well wishes from me the rest of the season. (Unless Duke pitches between 9/12-9/14 or 9/23-9/25, or Fogg pitches between 9/8-9/10 or 9/19-9/21 or 9/26-9/28. I reserve the right to add further exceptions as events warrant.)
  16. Nah. Lou said he'd skip ol' T-storm in the rotation so Harden could have a start before the ASB. I still can't believe it. Rich Harden. Awesome.
  17. Howard goes yard (again). 4-1 Phils.
  18. It does. Now if we can keep up our home dominance, and sweep these last 4, and ask PIT to win at least 1 game this weekend, man would it be nice to go into the break with a 6.5 game bulge (assuming of course the result of today's StL/PHI game holds as currently stands)! Thereby ending the first half with a Harden and a bulge.
