  1. "We are your 2008 Chicago Cubs. We can score 1 run in an inning -- but we prefer to score in bunches."
  2. I think I'm more pleased that it's still 3 on, no out for Aram -- than I am that we tied it.
  3. Darn. What this game really needed was a Gaudin AB with 2 on.
  4. I can only give him an 8.5 on that one. If he threw in a Mutombo-esque finger wag or a :-$ , I could up it to 9.5.
  5. This battery has had some odd looking plays tonight.
  6. DP and then a popout 3-2 at the end of the inning I'll give you credit for the "double" and the "3" on that one. But only because we took the lead.
  7. Nice, long AB from Kosuke, forcing a lot of pitches, drawing a walk. Ahh, I remember these...
  8. I doubt it. Brewers surely win now. Stick with me, I know these things. Wow, what a thrilling comeback for the Brewers... only to have their hearts crushed again.
  9. Wow. This feels like the Marmol implosion vs. the Giants. Plus Park with the Lilly glove toss. Wonderful. Still think the Dodgers pull it out. No reason, no stats to back it up--just a feeling.
  10. I can't imagine a better way to roll into Miami than with a road winning streak and Big Z on the mound! Go Cubs!
  11. He's right, Escobar hadn't done anything prior to that. So if Bobby Cox would've just done the right thing and given an at bat to Bueno or Jeff Bennett, it could've been taken care of all even-steven and such. Stupid Bobby. Now I'm kinda wishing Mr. Francoeur had gotten one between the shoulder blades himself. Well, there's always next year--oh wait, he might not be in the bigs again.
  12. Edmonds' total season BA has crept up into the mid-240s. If current trends hold, he could pass Kosuke in another week or so. Astonishing considering how their seasons both started.
  13. Harden goes in the night game. But won't be able to make his scheduled start on Sunday now. In the short-term, it's unfortunate. Taking the long view, though, Hendry said shortly after the trade that they'd give Harden an extra day here and there, or even skip a start or two, to keep him healthy the rest of the way. This effectively does that, so even with as well as he's pitched for us to date, I'm more OK with this after thinking about it.
  14. Yeah, I hope we're witnessing the initial stages of their long-awaited fade. For all the wonderment at their staying power throughout the summer, I figured that at some late day they'd go from 4 or 5 games back to 10+ seemingly overnight, making us wonder what all the May-June angst was about. I'm going to hold off on burying them just yet--might as well enjoy watching our lead on them grow. Wouldn't mind if they tax the Marlins bullpen a little before the Cubs get to Miami, though!
  15. The Cards really needed at least 2 in this series to have any hope at the division; with the Brewers winning, they may need 2 just to keep pace in the WC race. Facing those odds, not to mention Z on the mound, I expect we'll see an increasingly desperate Cards team: perhaps a few more chances to blow up a squeeze, gun down a guy at home, and pick off a baserunner. :D The Cubs should roll today. I just hope it doesn't get chippy, though with LaRussa that's usually a hollow wish. Go Cubs!
  16. They're 75% off at cardinals.com. Better get one while they last then. They might be having a bonfire by the end of the weekend.
  17. Well, it has started to. The best thing is, with the pitching matchups the next two days, the Cubs have the opportunity to keep smashing that slipper for two more games.
  18. You don't walk someone to get to Hank White and get away with it. Ever. :yahoo:
  19. Dang. Oh well, so much for my Jimmy Ballgame screenplay. Up to you, DeRo.
