  1. Ah, jealousy from the North Side is so sweet.
  2. But you do have Izturis in his place who had an OPS of .613 to Cedeno's .610 And Izturis significantly underperformed his 2006 PECOTA
  3. Nope, Howard had a LOT more help on offense 2-5 on the Phillies by VORP Utley - 65.2 Rollins - 45.2 Burrell - 27.5 Abreu - 25.5 2-5 on Cardinals by VORP Rolen - 36.6 Duncan - 24.8 Edmonds - 20.0 Spezio - 16.3 Think about that, 2 players one a superutility player the other starting the year in the minors and only playing 90 games were in the top 5 performers for the Cardinals in offensive production. Rolen's VORP would have been 4th on the Philles and none of the other 3 would have even made the Phillies top 5. No, Howard had FAR more offensive help than Pujols.
  4. Runs Created: Pujols- 150 Howard- 138 Win Shares: Pujols- 39 Howard- 31 OPS Pujols- 1.102 Howard- 1.084 Nope. The right guy didn't get. I'm no fan of Pujols, but I just get upset when the voters screw things up. They messed it up last year and once again this year. OPS+ Pujols - 180 Howard - 170 WARP3 Pujols - 12.9 Howard 9.4 psst Vance HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!
  5. Like they say, if you can throw left handed and have a pulse, you will always have a job in MLB.
  6. When WJ signs Miles to a 3 yr/13M contract, that might be a valid comparison.
  7. Anyone else read that the Cubs are quietly looking at Jason Marquis as a possible signing? And your thoughts?
  8. Speaking of Niefi Rotoworld - The Cubs and Mark DeRosa have agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth about $13 million, ESPN's Buster Olney reports. It's way too much of a commitment to someone who only figures to be an asset against left-handers. A platoon of Jacque Jones and DeRosa in right field would be very productive, but the Cubs are probably going to give DeRosa a chance to be their primary second baseman. DeRosa turns 32 in February and is a career .260/.316/.366 hitter against righties (to put that in perspective, Neifi Perez is a career .268/.298/.376 hitter).
  9. Sean Casey!
  10. That would the Cubbie way.
  11. If you think that then you didn't read the last 2 sentences of the previous post.
  12. People who are innocent should not be expected to have to PROVE their innocence. Your statement implies that Pujols has to PROVE his innocence. no, I'm saying that neither article sheds any light on whether pujols did HGH or not. you're making something out of nothing. Not exactly this "I'm saying that neither article sheds any light on whether pujols did HGH or not." and this "this no more proves his innocence" are not the same thing and don't convey the same message. Proving innocence in a matter such this (steroids/HGH) could only be proven if someone was under close & personal 24 hr watch as that would be the only way to prove the negative. The connotation and implication of "this no more proves his innocence" is or comes across as you beleive he is guilty. If you don't beleive someone is doing something, you don't need proof that he/she is NOT doing it.
  13. People who are innocent should not be expected to have to PROVE their innocence. Your statement implies that Pujols has to PROVE his innocence.
  14. So you presume he is guilty until proven innocent? Nice. So how exactly does one go about proving a negative?
  15. I never really understood the LaRussa hating and Herzog ass kissing myself. I used to really like Herzog since he brought the Cardinals a WS title and 2 pennants. BUT him quitting and walking out on the team mid-season in 1990 as well as the constant sniping by him at LaRussa over the years has REALLY eroded my opinion of him. And if you really look at his track record with the Cardinals, he was VERY inconsistent 92 wins then 79, 101 wins then 79, 95 wins then 76 I think at least part of it comes from Whitey being or coming across as a good ole boy and southern IL native. Whereas LaRussa is west coast, tree hugging, card carrying PETA vegetarian. I have been labeled in the past as a TLR lover, which isn't all that accurate. Its more of pointing out the fallacy of some of the accusations leveled at TLR and his long term track record of success. Obviously he doesn't always make the right decision but he always has a solid reasoning for the decisions he makes. It will be interesting to see how LaRussa is treated by all those Cardinals fans so critical of him in the past.
  16. Then how and why was Tavarez ejected and suspended? No ball was found to have any foreign substance on it only the cap allegedly had pine tar on it.
  17. He is great. . . . . as long as he gets to pitch vs the Mets career 4-1 1.85 ERA And he has actually been pretty good since joining the Cardinals in 2004 posting a 44-26 record and 3.95 ERA.
  18. Are you always this pleasant? I can be quite pleasant, having a reasonable and rational discussion with those posters actually wanting to have a discussion.
  19. The umitigated gall of a Cub fan to post an article (written by a national writer) in the Rivalries section of a Cubs fans website that doesn't totally kiss the butt of the Cardinal heroes (past and present), local media, organization and "the best fans in baseball." I should be lynched - good thing Enos Country Slaughter is no longer around. Like I said, whatever makes you happy. I am just getting a good laugh at your myopia.
  20. As a reminder, NSBB etiquette calls for attacking the post, not the poster, although trust me my feelings are not the least bit hurt. I guess in this case it's much easier for you to shoot the messenger than to try to challenge some of the valid points the author made that evidently hit home. If you think they are valid points, I am happy for you to revel in your blindness. Are you disputing the writer's contention that: Quote: For years, decades even, players in every sport have spoken with the media after tough losses. Players can handle it, even the "very best competitors," provided they aren't jerks. Bonds couldn't handle it, but he was a jerk. Steve Carlton and Kevin Brown couldn't handle it, either, but they were jerks. After a period of time, those titles became accepted: Steve Carlton = jerk. If Pujols isn't careful it'll happen to him, and if you're wondering why it hasn't happened yet, look at his address. He plays in St. Louis, a town that for years has looked the other way for its best baseball players. For example, I'm writing this story from the Enos Slaughter Room. Slaughter was behind a near-boycott in 1947 when the Cardinals objected to the color of Jackie Robinson's skin. In some places a player gets maligned for that sort of thing. In St. Louis he gets a room named after him. Whatever makes you happy man, just gotta love that in your eagerness to lambast anything and everything Cardinal that you lose all REASON as well as perspective. One has to feel pity for such small minds.

  22. Nice to see that Voice of Reason is showing just what an oxymoron his name is.
  23. Pujols won it last year having fewer HR and RBI than the 2nd place finisher, in the fact the gap in HR & RBI is similar. This may be an interesting result between the the pretty stats of HR & RBI compared to the stats you don't see on the usual sports sites, such as VORP, Win Shares, OPS+ or RISP batting lines etc.
  24. Isringhausen actually had a darn good season in 2005, posting his career best save ratio and career best ERA. What stands out the most in 2006 is the dramatic increase in walks and consequently in WHIP. The lack of control would seem to indicate that there may be some physically wrong.
