  1. This is getting good!
  2. The call was bad. The reason why is infuriating. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/umpire-lance-barksdale-blamed-catcher-133113341.html
  3. Cards did manage to score 4, which spared them complete and total humiliation... But this works too!
  4. Can anyone else spot what’s wrong with this sentence? So I take this to mean that there are a few closeted black bullpen coaches out there?
  5. Loved how he shook off the catcher before the strikeout!
  6. This is.... interesting. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cubs/ct-chicago-cubs-joe-maddon-theo-epstein-20190928-quhoehqcwjfdtd6fktgb5cyf2m-story.html
  7. I agree with this. Maddon has some fault, but this mess isn't his doing. Anything less than Theo taking primary responsibility will be unacceptable. The only thing I want to hear him address in his end of season press conference is the mistakes he has made and what he plans to do to fix them. Maddon is almost certainly gone, but it is largely due to the mistakes that have been made above him. That partially includes ownership, but mostly lies square on the shoulders of Theo. I don't want to hear him place blame on anyone else. The players have proven they are who they are, and it is Theo who bought into them being better than that. I hope Tom Ricketts is furious, and he has every right to be. But does he really care, or is he counting his money and waiting for the new network to launch (which will very likely not even be carried by some of the major content distributors, Dish Network for example)? Theo does deserve a lot of the blame for holding on to so many of his "prized prospects," many of whom have little trade value right now. Unfortunately, he'll take a lot of the blame away from Tom Ricketts and company, who are running the cubs like a Kwik-E Mart.
  8. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Phil Rogers knows; it's because Javy replaced Russell at short. He's been writing about baseball for a long time, so he has to be smart.
  9. Pretty well sums me up, too. If they make the playoffs I’ll be back to living and dying on each game. I've grown accustomed to believing they're going to make the playoffs every time they win and believing they won't every time they lose. It's been that way for more than a month. I haven't lost any sleep over it, which is more than I can say about the past four seasons.
  10. IMO... you have to be good at baseball to eventually become a gutless, choking dog. There are too many guys on the roster who are just not good enough at baseball.
  11. Yeah that was suppose to be "KB Lite." He would've really benefited from the launch angle stuff, I think. Every time this type of thing is brought up I think back to our crappy high school coach who came out of some minor league system and insisted on drilling into all of our heads to swing down on the ball and pound it into the ground. Every batting drill was some sort of variation of just chopping dramatically down. Dude ruined my career* *didn't have a career My high school coach sophomore year insisted me and a couple other guys switch hit that season. I was miserable. And I batted .405 my freshman year! I coulda been somebody!* *No I couldn't.
  12. Loved that fan in the bleachers who pimped for the camera as the ball was leaving the yard! Well done!!!
  13. I get them from time to time, too. Clear all your history and delete your cookies. That usually does the trick for me.
  14. I'm assuming you're referring to the whole Carter Stewart situation (which is not normal). So, yes, technically Kumar Rocker could leave Vanderbilt and play overseas and join NPB, but it would take an incredible amount of money and it might delay his FA in MLB down the road. It's complicated (no one is quite sure how posting will work for Carter Stewart when/if he wants to return) and top draft prospects don't really go overseas. Maybe if Carter Stewart is successful it might become an option going forward, but it's a difficult transition. So I'm assuming you're asking because you're trying to figure out a way for the Cubs to land Kumar Rocker? That's not happening lol. If Rocker goes overseas and establishes residency there, he'd be open to the international spending caps considering his age. If he doesn't establish residency, I believe he'd still be under the draft eligibility rules. I’m completely ignorant regarding international rules/free agency. But it certainly was in reference to Stewart’s approach to his professional career. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out. Appreciate the clarification. Whether it increases his chances of playing for the Cubs or not had no bearing on my question.
  15. Any chance of Kumar skipping his last two years to play in Japan? What (or how much) would it take to lure him overseas?
  16. .905 OPS on an 0-2 count. Amazing!
  17. Luis Tiant was the losing pitcher that game. He went 14.1 innings!
  18. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cubs/ct-spt-ben-julianna-zobrist-divorce-20190515-story.html So I guess this is happening.
  19. Anyone else yelling "Don't hurt the shoulder!!!" as KB headed toward the plate?
  20. It can be both.
  21. He's done enough to make Addison Russell expendable. Though Addy made himself expendable without anyone else's help.
  22. Epstein had this to say after signing a five year extension in 2016: https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/chicago-cubs/five-more-years-theo-epstein-signs-massive-contract-extension-cubs Off-seasons like this and horsefeathers employers like the RIcketts will make it easy for him to walk away when his contract ends.
  23. All good, except do not change the distance from the rubber to the plate. For those concerned about the rising strikeout rate, that's likely the best way to fix it. But in mid-season? It'll be an adjustment for batters too. Their timing will be off.
