Amen! Seriously, what's so frustrating about this? They were never in it at all. The system of the playoffs is still that the hottest team, not the best team wins first round matchups. Anyone really believe the Rockies were the best team in the NL last yr? 2003 was especially excruciating because the Cubs used the "hot team card" to eliminate the Braves who won 101 games. We all forget that? Then they overcame a 0-1 deficit to take a 3-1 lead with Zambrano, Prior, and Wood coming up. That my friends was heartbreak. Yeah same here - I'm disappointed but the pain isn't even CLOSE to the pain I felt in '03, or even '04. People tend to forget how high the expectations were in '04, at least as high as this year. But the '03 pain is off the charts compared to the '07 and '08 sweeps. I really think the LDS ought to be seven games, and get rid of the 2-3 day layoff/buildup between the end of the LCS and the beginning of the WS. A crazier idea that gets floated every now and then for the 5-game format is to have the top team play game 1 on the road and then come home for the rest of the series. Maybe split gate receipts evenly for game 4 if the series gets that far, to compensate the club that lost a home game.
