  1. yes, you can totally know this after a whopping 150 big league plate appearances  Well people already know that Gerut is gonna be a worse ML player than Dubois by the end of their career so why can't I know the opposite? Because it's different than how you feel? it's okay, dude - being a hypocrite is all right with me! I'm not judging the deal, I never did in my post. Learn what hypocracy means before you use it. I believe Dubois is AAAA player based on what I've seen. I have no idea what Gerut will be. What you quoted was me playing devils advocate. I have no idea whether gerut will be worse or better than Dubois. well, i certainly don't know what "hypocracy" is, but i do know what "hypocrisy" is. you are judging the trade, or it certainly appears so, by 1. calling dubois an AAAA player (when he hasn't even had over 200 PAs in the bigs, i believe it was 152 this year) and 2. attacking those who believe the deal isn't a good move while i agree that no strong opinions should be made about the deal until we see how each player does on their new team, my first impression is that this is a lateral move at best, and i don't see what the problem is with having an opinion at first.

  4. missed that little DL trip last year, eh? he's no healthier than prior, considering 2 of prior's DL trips weren't related to pitching...
  5. one game totally makes me change my opinion  of course i want dunn.
  6. really? the only one of those three i even consider over prior is santana, and i doubt i'd take him, either.
  7. over 3 games, i believe, but yes, he is correct :)
  8. interesting i figured he'd have SOME trade value
  9. how is this any different from perennial gold glove winner jim edmonds? he just fakes slow reaction skills so he can dive - if he can win a gold glove like that, why can't patterson? Edmonds makes the plays. Corey doesn't get to every play because he's too slow in reacting. At least Edmonds still makes all of the catches. corey still makes plenty of plays. you're underrating him.

  11. dusty? is that you? i don't see how you can possibly say greenberg is being "thrown out there" on a regular basis - he had one PA and went to the DL! murton is the only one who's got anything resembling playing time, and that's only because we've been up against a bunch of lefties lately. as soon as the righties come back, it's hollandsworth all the time. LOL. Oh yeah WOW. Can't wait for Holly to come back and save us  huh? do you think i'm happy that hollandsworth will be starting practically full-time or something? I kinda thought that's what you were getting at, yeah. Sorry  haha, no problem - just wanted to make sure you understood that i am not advocating hollandsworth starting like he does :)
  12. they'll have a fun time doing that, i'm sure :)

  15. EqA = [H + TB + SB + 1.5*(BB + HBP)] / (AB + BB + HBP + SB/3 + CS)
  16. not really. that team is horribly run. doesn't mean this isn't a good move, but being dfa'd by them doesn't mean a thing.
  17. no thanks there's too much crap centered on the red sox everywhere you look - no need to buy a book about it, even if it is written by BP
  18. iirc, he threw 2 complete games in a row - the first was a shutout - and went 8 innings in his 3rd start after the break. edit: i checked retrosheet. 1st start: 7/17 vs mil (sheets) CG shutout, game time: 2:05 2nd start: 7/22 vs cin (lidle) CG, 2 er (both solo homers), game time: 2:15 3rd start: 7/27 @ mil (sheets) 6ip 1er (solo homer)
  19. why did mesa throw at hairston there? i missed the last half inning, so i'm assuming it's for the fist pump after the slam?
  20. yep, i've been getting it since they started it - it's good for listening to at the gym. you don't need an ipod for it - it's just an mp3, so you can listen to it on your computer if you like.
  21. They also just cleared a pretty decent amount of payroll. Couple that with the five million or so they had to play with before the season even started, and then they have space to make a pretty significant move if they so choose. Okay, I just had a chance to look at the numbers, and I don't see Oakland clearing any payroll. A's send: Byrnes= 2.2 million Bradford= 1.4 million Total= 3.6 million A's recieve: Payton= 3.5 million Kennedy= 2.2 million Witasick= .316 million Cash= -? Total= 6.016 million - cash from Boston So in order to free up any payroll, they need to get at least 2.5+ million from Boston. So even if the Red Sox pay all of Payton's salary, Oakland doesn't free up more than a million(500k in essence since half has been paid) in payroll. don't forget that san diego is paying part of payton's contract, too.
