Yeah, it's become clear for a while that our primary PG target for 2011 is Turner.

KU has offered Josiah Turner (PG, 2011) and Nino Jackson (PG 2012). They may have offered Randle (PG 2011), too. They may take 1 PG in each year, so if we grab Jackson and Turner/Randle, I can't imagine we have room for Paige.

Nothing Rose said would have ever gotten LeBron here. So with that in consideration... do you want our franchise player to be a guy begging for the services of an ego-maniac, or do you want him to be a guy saying "[expletive] that, I'm the man and I'm gonna show everybody by doing it myself" Rose has the attitude of a real competitor, just like Durant. Doing nothing was just dumb, and all this talk about his 3-point shot better not be [expletive]. Did Rose even realize this was expected/hoped of him? Was he asked to do it? Honestly, I'm not sure it would have occurred to me to do it, but then again, I'm not part of the NBA player culture, so maybe it's understood that's how it works.

Rush is potentially available. It would probably have to be a 3 team trade as the Pacers are really looking for a PG. They would almost certainly give up Rush in order to get one. Rush can defend, too. He hasn't really materialized as the consistent scorer that I thought he would, though.

He's more of a shooting guard than a small forward. I don't see him putting the ball on the floor and attacking the rim much but there's always room for good spot up shooters in the NBA who have size and can guard. Henry will do that. I think he can be a 40%+ 3 point shooter in the NBA. Good shooter. Can board for a guard. Average athleticism. Hard-working defender. Hesitant to attack the rim. But that's not out of fear (imo). More because it's not a real strength, I agree with everything except the athlete part, I thought he was below average as an athlete. He's not a below average athlete. He can run and jump. He's also physically strong. He's just not explosive. I believe draft xpress has him listed as an above average athlete, which is a stretch. But he's definitely not below average.

it'd be a tough sell. Iowa from about I-35 east is significantly different than Nebraska (and by different, I mean better). Outside of the CWS and steak, Omaha has almost nothing going for it. It's a [expletive] hole. Iowa making fun of any other state for being hickish is a tough sell to me. I'm not saying it's more hickish than nebraska. But it just seems stupid for Iowa to get into that kind of name calling. Almost every midwest/plains state is basically a hick state.

Well I meant now, but yes both. you think the Big Ten would prefer Nebraska to Oklahoma as a 12th team? other than geography, what's the advantage? Well, geography is a pretty big part of the consideration, so I'm not sure why it should be dismissed. But Nebraska is a better fit academically, too. I think the only non-AAU team the Big 10 would consider is Notre Dame.

Per Chip Brown, sounds like the Pac-10 made some last minute changes trying to add Kansas and exclude Okie Lite. Then, if aTm did head to SEC, they wanted to add Utah. (Personally, I would have taken MU over Utah.) All that helped drive Texas back to the Big 12, who didn't want to piss off Boone Pickens. .

gimme a break. You're bringing up isolated instances (eli manning) or South Carolina lucking out and beating a top 5 team. That doesn't mean they're bringing national attention to the conference. If it does, than KSU counts because it almost went to the title game once. Or because they somehow luck out and beat highly ranked texas every time they play. and KU counts because it played for the #1 ranking a few years ago vs Mizzou. Are South Carolina and Ole Miss better programs than ISU or KSU? Sure. Are they bringing more national attention to their respective conferences than those teams? Maybe. But not much. They're the "who cares" teams of the SEC. If I find out I'm about to watch So Car is about to play Bama, I groan just as much as i do when I find out KSU is about to play OU. ETA: the Forbes argument is pretty stupid to me, too. The original point was about bringing national attention to the conference, not program value. I don't think the two are necessarily tied together. There are probably tons of reasons a program can be valued high, regardless of national brand equity. The ad agency I work at just pitched a company named McKesson. It's a Fortune 500 company worth over a billion dollars. Most of us working on it had never heard of it before.

Sure they do (minus PSU). You talked about adding "national interest" in a conference. Who outside of SEC country is tuning in to see a South Carolina game? Or an Ole Miss game? In either major sport? Those programs bring the same amount of attention to their conference that KSU/ISU do to the Big 12. I would argue that Tech--especially with Leach's crazy air attack--garnered much more national interest than any of the schools you mentioned.

So...basically Texas could decide next week to leave after all? With each new leak about the new Big 12, Beebe comes off a bigger buffoon. This is awesome. I don't understand how anyone agreed to this. Truly baffling.

well, right now KU has given the local broadcast rights to hoops games to JTV (Jayhawk TV). It's part of ESPN plus. I believe we make a lot of money off it.

The bolded is pretty significant. What does that mean, Jon? Because if it means what I think it means, I think that would kill KU. We actually were the 3rd or 4th highest revenue producing school in the Big 12 because we make a killing off our basketball program through stuff like that.

No, you're right. The conference isn't stable long-term. In the short term, I don't know what choice the 7 schools who don't matter have.
