  1. the Pudge to Cubs and Maddux to Cubs (months before it actually happened) were a couple of doozies IIRC.
  2. The BS detector is off the chart right now. I don't know if its bs or not, but deals where money changes hands generally take awhile for the Commish to sign off on. we might have received word soon after the paperwork was sent in, but Bud is busy trying to unload a '83 Monte Carlo.
  3. if only there was a nsbb obsessed weather man to clue us in to the likelihood of Cubs baseball tonight.
  4. You mean Hammerin' Hank? The guy with the football picks? I think he's their horseracing analyst
  5. Theriot had been bringing less to the table than Izturis recently. As long as this doesn't mean Izturis the starting SS for the rest of the season, I can't complain about the move. Jim is trying to get something for Jones. If they are authorized to pay his salary when he leaves, it could help them actually get something back. A self imposed deadline of today for a deal doesn't help the team at all. where was the press release by the Cubs stating they must trade Jones by today? as for the claims that DeRosa can't play short, his lifetimestats at short would place him in the middle pack in all catagories for ML shortstops this year. he got 4 starts at short in 2006 and 7 starts in 2005, and spent some additional time there each year, and did just fine.
  6. maybe it's a ying-yang thing. perhaps if Ensberg and Everett didn't strike out but were still allowed to bat, Howry wouldn't have had the 'L' hung on him in this game. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=Amdw10LGX5lssY4EIV_phI.4u7YF?gid=270409116 I just mentioned in the game thread, the pitches Howry threw to those first three batters were hardly ideal, but they weren't bad pitches at all.
  7. yet another example of Sox fans over obsession with Cubs baseball. Bob got smoked, but the pitches he threw weren't bad pitches. caught a little too much plate with all three, but all three were bottom of the knee strikes.
  8. No, because a girl I work with has a boyfriend who was picked up by the Windy City Thunderbolds. He was out of college and was recently released by the Astros' farm system. They might have some college players, but not all. I was thinking of the Northwoods league.
  9. I think it sucks because Burke is just as bad as Biggio. at least Biggio stands a chance of wrapping one around the foul pole.
  10. I think they are all college players.
  11. Cubs had some bad luck, ie soft hits, bad hops, corner calls, early in the game, but the funny bounce Sori's single took was HUGE. I don't know if Hill makes it if not for the bounce. centerfielder would have 'had the best of it' as Stoney used to say.
  12. people watching these highlights don't know the Rockies half of the ninth is being played at full speed.
  13. Motion To Force Carniby To Change His Name To Handlebar McSkullet.
  14. Irish curse. ya drink to mourn, ya drink to celebrate.
  15. hubbahubbahubba. worse loss of the year turns into best win of the year. Good for you Wrigley faithful. Walk off wins are such a blast there.
  16. and Lou's failure to run with Jacque costs us a tie game right now. sure wish Sori need a single to win here.
  17. Yep. Now I don't think Lou handled things as well as he could have, but that's a ridiculous statement. 8-3 in the 8th. He's been with 10 pitchers the past few days and doesn't have a whole lot of options. He was trying to get Eyre through the game with a huge lead. Once Eyre gets hit, he brings in the new closer and he gets hit too. Not much he could do. He didn't want to have to use Marmol again because he's been using him so often and Marmol has been starting for awhile and probably shouldn't be pitching every single game. I blame this on Howry. Eyre got hit to start the 9th but Howry should have came in and stopped the bleading. If you don't want to blame it on him, then blame it on Hendry. Make a frickin move to bring up a pitcher. the fact that he didn't makes me really hopeful it's because Jacque is gone tomorrow. I think I would sacrifice a win to get rid of Jacque at this point.
  18. I think Eyre should have been given the chance to go until he let a baserunner on. not even having Howry up was silly. tried to boost Eyre's confidence and it totally backfired.
