  1. hilarious. if that was a slump, then there's a chance Jacque breaks out of it any day. Cust goes 7/52, 2 2B, 8/24 bb/k ratio for a month and noone talks about him. he lights up the NLs worst pitching staff, then gets a couple dingers over the following week, and he's back to hero status. Cubs definitely would have farmed him out considering he proved today he's incapable of fielding and throwing the baseball and the Cubs play in the National League. .412 OBP and 1.002 OBP, you're right, he sucks. my comment was more about fair weather fandom then Jack Cust.
  2. I think what happens is the umps discuss the play and the rules they applied with the league. if it is determined the umps misinterpreted the rules on a call or play, they then ask whether it made a difference in the game. if it did, they replay from that point, as it did with Brett and the Yankees. if it didn't, the protest is upheld, but they don't replay from that point in the game. in other words, even if the umps got it wrong, I think the league can uphold the Sox protest, but nothing else needs to be replayed and the game is determined official.

  4. when the Cubs do reach .500, some of us would like them to be 5 or 6 games out, not 8-9 games out. not exactly a silly concept. I must also admit to be a little confused with the whole "let the Brewers win all they want until we're over .500" concept. Yeah, thats exactly what I said. what you implied is we are more concerned with the Brewers losing than the Cubs winning. I don't think there is any evidence here that we are more concerned about the Brewers than the Cubs. check the length of the Cubs threads vs. 'other games' threads for evidence of exactly what is concerning us more. you also said it doesn't matter, which it most certainly does, that is unless winning the division is not the objective here, and I think it is.
  5. upon further review, at least numbers wise, the Royals have a great pen. three outs here Jimmy Gobble.
  6. crapsticks. c'mon Royals pen.
  7. Peralta seems to be having a decent year and appears to still be available.
  8. monkey see monkey do here Teahan.
  9. how about the old Don Zimmer bases loaded hit and run here with Juan Jr.

  11. Brewers doing their best Cubs impression allowing the runner to get to third.
  12. Brewers have used up their pen in this game. come on KC.
  13. hawk would be broke if MLB fined announcers for criticizing umpires. most TV announcers find euphamisms to talk about bad umpiring. "I think such and such caught a break" "that appeared to break around the zone." TV announcers generally don't just come out and say 'that was a terrible call by the ump' or 'we're getting hosed' hey, Contreras strikezone is gone again.
  14. What did he say? in reference to elbow pads. something to the effect of 'there are guys around the league wearing elbow pads that had surgery 9 years ago. I think it's healed by now.'
  15. DLee continues to foul back pitches he should crush.
  16. actually, I don't think that's the rule as explained by Len and Bob. I think the 'when a play is made on the obstructed runner' before 'the play is dead' is significant. in other words, DeRo and Pie are still in danger of being put out, until they make a play on Pagan. once they do that, the play is dead. it's a good rule as it doesn't reward the defense for interference by making the play dead right then and there and preventing the other runners from the opportunity of advancing.
  17. it wouldn't have mattered. izturis would've grounded into a dp right there not hit hard enough. izturis beats that one out.
  18. get 6 more outs without them scoring and it won't matter.
  19. now on to failing to score with the bases loaded and none out.
  20. liner to rightfield fence. Pie failed to read it and went back to tag. Pagan did read it and ran to second and went to round the back, but Uribe was standing on the bag and Pagan bumped into him. DeRo rounds first and goes into second but at that point Pie is at third and Pagan in no man's land between second and thirst. DeRos starts going back to first while Pagan thrown out at second. Pie caught in a rundown between third and home, DeRo to third. but none of that matters now. I think it's the right call. fielder intereference kills the play.
