  1. I could be wrong...but it looked like Edmonds was squared around to bunt. Which makes no sense bunting Edmonds, but I thought it looked like he was squaring around. I think on Sportcenter they actually said it was a foul ball and that it hit his bat. Then again, I watched the re-run of Sportcenter at like 9 this morning, so I could be wrong. Again, after getting hit 3 or 4 times, I guess Tony has a legit complaint. I also agree Wizard that eventually you don't care if it was intentional or not. I think there is a big difference though if you get hit with a fastball at the feet, a curveball in the butt, and a slider off the knee caps as opposed to three fastballs in the back.
  2. Thanks. Like I said, I didn't want to base my judgement off of a 30 second clip on Sportscenter.
  3. Fair enough. I guess after 3 guys get hit, I would expect something said. But I still don't know what his beef was with the Floriday players. Talk to the umps if there is a problem. Were the first 3 guys hit by Willis? I know the guy that threw up and in on Edmonds and Rodriguez was not Willis, I think it was Villone??? Like I said, I just wanted to see if Tony had a point this time (my Tony dislike is coming out) or if he was just whining to hear himself. Seems Tony really had a legit complaint.
  4. Like I said, I didn't see the game, just wanted to get the details straight. So it seemed all of the pitches were UNintentional in the opinions of the peopel that saw the game. By the way, I still don't like TLR!!!
  5. I didn't watch the game at all, but the highlights I saw on Sportscenter showed Tony complaining about two pitches in back to back innings. One, was a high fastball to Edmonds and the other was a fastball to Rodriguez. The Sportscenter hightlight showed LaRussa yelling at the Florida pitcher and then at LaDuca. The pitch to Edmonds was high and tight, but it looked like he was bunting. I was always told when I played to throw up and in when someone bunts. Rodriguez's pitch was also in, but it looked about letter high, not head high. Did I miss something before (ESPN sometimes leaves things out that lead up to situations) that made Tony upset? Maybe this is just my dislike toward TLR, but why did he or was he yelling at the two Florida players? Can someone that saw the game fill me in? The box score also says that Carpenter hit a guy...did this have somthing to do with it. By the way, Carpenter threw a helluva game again.
  6. When he told me, I was shocked that they would boo him. Normally, when any major league guys is down here, they give him a standing ovation. I guess the fans in Des Moines are just as frustrated watching him swing at pitches early in the count he can't handle, as the fans that were at Wrigley. I don't know where he was sitting, and it may have been a small section near him, but he said there was some booing. Like I said, I don't know too much more about it.
  7. No explanation needed for me... I hope it wasn't a false trade rumor Dunn to the Cubs for Macias!!! Holy crap!!! :D
  8. My brother was at the I-Cubs game last night and said Patterson was being booed after making a couple of outs. He said he was swinging at pitches early in the count. If you are getting booed at a AAA game, I think there is no choice but to move to a different organization. I for one, like Corey, but know he has a lot to improve on. I think he will be a good major league ball player, but I don't think it will be with the Cubs.
  9. This is just part of an article that breaks down all of CP at bats while at Iowa. You can check out the whole article here: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artikkel?NoCache=1&Dato=20050715&Kategori=SPORTS03&Lopenr=507150378 I-CUBS STAT SUMMARY Plate appearances: 22 Hits: Six (two singles, two doubles, two home runs) Walks:Two Hit by pitch:One RBI: Four Runs scored: Four Strikeouts: Five
  10. I will take Prior over Carpenter any day (since that was the original question) I would like a starting rotation of-Prior, Santana, Peavy, Harden, and any one else.
  11. Derwood...you are correct sir. I too like the tradtional white home uniforms and the traditional grey uniforms on the road. More specific, I like the home uniforms to have the team nickname and the road uniforms to have the city they are from. The "alternative" uniforms are a way to sell more jerseys. Some teams have four or five different jerseys. Anytime a team goes through a drastic change in logo or color (Brewers old baseball glove to the M-Astros to their star instead of the other thing-San Diego from brown to Navy-Toronto) I have a hard time liking it. I guess it has to grow on me. That being said, White Sox of the 70's. Real men wear pants.
  12. So RF will become LF basically. How many people will the new one hold? Do you think there are people who are wishing the Cards lose (beside all of us :D ) in the first round of the playoffs to make sure the stadium stays on track. Also, are they planning to open it up to the highest bidder (Coors/Enron/Minute Maid/Miller) or are the going to call it New Busch.
  13. Just out of curiosity (not real familiar with the construction process) what part of the new stadium will actually be the "old" stadium. By looking at the picture, I am guessing home plate will be by the brick in the corner and the OF will be where the old stadium is. How much more can they do before starting to dig into the old stadium? To be honest, I lived near St. Louis for 3 months and really enjoyed the old stadium. I was really surprised that they were going to build a new one. They turned it from a "cookie cutter" (most parks built in the 60's and 70's-see also Riverfront/Three Rivers/etc) into a really nice park. I had a great view from the OF bleachers everytime I went. Like I said, I thought it was a really nice park. Now for my Cubs bias...it still isn't Wrigley Field though.
  14. Just a guess, but I am going to say lead off just so he can get more at bats.
  15. Is the game thread like a TV broadcast in a rain delay...find anything to talk about? or Go to crappy TV shows like Full House/Magnum PI/ or in this case the White Sox.
  16. All of you are correct. I think part of the problem with the pitchers currently is they think they have to throw a perfect game to win. They know the offense is terrible and they are feeling pressure. I think I heard on yesterday's game (Ron and Pat on radio) that the Cubs have never had a lead in their current losing streak. This was after Atlanta scored in the first game. I guess it is hard for the pitchers knowing if they give up a run or two that their offense might not get that.
  17. I think if the Cards get Schmidt, they would be darn good. Do you think there is any chance for the Cubs/Cards to trade for Soriano and put him in the OF. I heard/read somewhere, that the Yankees are thinking about doing that. Don't know what it would take to get him...probably a lot. I believe he is a free agent next year. Would be a perfect Cub...K's alot, but hits homeruns. A. Soriano 24 doubles 20 homeruns 50 RBI 13walks 65 K's 8SB .282 AVG. .313 OBP .557 SLG % .870 OPS Does he still hit leadoff down there?
  18. No, I really don't know the situation as well as some of the Cardinal fans on the board because I don't give a crap about the Cardinals. I don't cheer for them, I don't follow them, I don't care about them. I watched the game, I saw Kline flip him off, I didn't see Tony really do anything about it. As a coach myself, if any player disrepects me in any way the guy isn't going to play for me. Tony may have said I would stick my foot up his butt, but I don't think he did. And if I remember Kline was still on the team during the World Series. I guess Tony talks the talk, but if he (Kline) helps win games, then he is going to be OK. I guess Tony does something right if Kline wants to comeback and play for him. As far as Dusty, no he is not a great manager, but the thread isn't about that, and if I wanted to comment on him, I would go to one of the thousands of threads that bash him. I am just saying I would rather have him as a manager then TLR. That is it.
  19. The difference being that one is employed by the organization whose quotes are put in the media. The other is a typical fan. What is different about that? Also, I for one would not want LaRussa managing the Cubs. No thanks. Any manager that allows someone to flip them off and not do anything about it is a manager that has no respect from his own players. Now you are going to say it was competition and stuff, but I don't agree. It has also been stated that TLR complains about Cox, when he is worse then Cox. Makes no sense. Dusty might say some stupid stuff, but he doesn't complain. TLR complains about stupid stuff.
  20. Maybe Tony should just give his players the needed days off and leave Pujols at home and let Lee start :D , leave Rolen home and have ARam start :D and leave Edmonds home and let Cabrera or someone else start in the OF :D
  21. First, let me start by thanking Mark and Tim for getting the interview. That is why this web site is the best for the Cubs and all of Major League Baseball. Your work is appreciated by all Cub fans... After reading the interview, it really got me excited about the farm. I know Fleita job is to make everyone sound great, but many of the names he mentioned over and over again. The more I hear about Murton, the more I am starting to think he could be a very good major league player.
