  1. Am I in the minority here, but I don't see this as a "bad" thing. Nomar is not illiterate (although if my spelling is wrong, he could be :D), he knows they are going after Furcal. I personally don't believe Nomar will be signed by anyone until after Furcal. If Furcal doesn't go to the Cubs, Hendry can still go get Nomar. Was it the smartest thing to say...No, but Nomar knows what is going on he is not stupid.
  2. Despite popular belief among some of us here, I don't believe Hendry is a complete idiot. 1. I don't see him trading Walker until Furcal is signed. That would mean that Cedano and Walker would be 2nd and SS. If/When Furcal is signed, then I would look for TWalk to be traded. 2. If the Cubs don't get Furcal, Hendry is going to go get someone that will make a significant change to this ballclub. Dunn or Giles possibly. 3. Despite what the quote says, if the Cubs don't get Furcal, I could still see Nomar coming back. 1. Pierre-CF 2. Walker-2nd 3. Lee-1B 4. Dunn/Giles -RF 5. Ramirez-3B 6. Barrett-C 7. Murton-LF 8. Cedano-SS Still not a bad line-up Just my two cents worth.
  3. I am always in the belief that you trade the future for right now. If this means we have to give up Pie (who I would really like to keep) to get Dunn, then so be it. However, I don't feel Pie would HAVE to be included. I think a combination of pitchers would be enough. Hill-Williams-another minor league arm (preferably Rule V) and possibly a minor league position player (Sing???) If we have to take on Milton's contract, then pull a player off. I agree, we do everything we can to get a player like Dunn. Kearns, not so much. Where does this leave Murton. I think he could be a Ryne Sandberg type hitter in the 2 spot. I could easily see him hitting in the 300's with 20 HR's. I know a lot of people are not sure about Murton's D, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in RF with or without a canon for an arm.
  4. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051104&content_id=1264732&vkey=news_la&fext=.jsp&c_id=la Mods-Feel free to move this with the JD Drew thread, but I think LA will be making some trade with their OF. They have a ton of guys... Drew-Ledee-Cruz-Bradley-Werth
  5. Nomar has said he would be willing to change positions correct??? Has he said where he would like to move to? What if we get Furcal to play short, move Nomar to 2nd, and have Cedano back up both short and 2nd. If ARam gets hurt, we still could move Nomar over to 3rd. This would still mean we only have Murton in the OF (IMO he deserves to be penciled in next year) so we still need to get OF. IF- ARam-Furcal-Nomar-Lee- If anyone gets hurt, Cedano goes in at SS or 2nd with Nomar moving to 3rd. So...who plays first? Hopefully nobody, but this is where TWalker comes in. Why can't he play 1st on certain days, 2nd on certain days and be a viable option to sub in the OF. With his production, this would be a fairly cheap option, but how cheap is that for a bench player? Again, this would still require us signing Furcal and hopefully Giles.
  6. I have really started to hate any national broadcast (especially on Fox). There are just not very many good announcers left. Obviously Vin Scully is a legend, and Jack Buck was wonderful (who can forget his call of Kirk Gibson's HR). I just feel IMO that there are very few talanted broadcasters left. Even ESPN has better announcers then Fox. Who else...Bob Ueker???Jon Miller??? I don't hear many games outside of my area, but there are not a lot of names ringing in my mind. I really think Pat Hughes is great for radio and fits in well with Santo. How is Charlie Steiner formerly of ESPN. Doesn't he do games somewhere? Now, keep in mind that I am talking announcers, and not color guys. Thoughts???
  7. It is a big jump. Iowa has 7 games in 5 days and 9 games in the next 7 days. They are making up games in New Orleans from the hurricane. One of the double headers is two seven inning games, and the other is a 9 and 9. I think Iowa just needed some arms, and these two fit the bill.
  8. I was listening to the local sports radio show in Des Moines and the two people doing the show (one a Cards fan, the other a Royals fan) were discussing the possiblity of the Cards making the World Series. I was surprised when one of them (I believe the Cards fan, but am not sure) suggested the Cards would never win a World Series with La Russa as manager. He then went on to say that with all of the World Series appearances Oakland made, and all of the Division crowns won by the Cards and A's that La Russa has only 1 World Series title (coming in 1989). I found this to be very surprising considering the power house teams Oakland had in the late 80's and early 90's.
  9. I didn't get to see the game last night, but Ron and Pat were commenting on how Corey is holding his hands higher now then before. Ron made a comment that Gene Clines suggested it, and that Pat Listach (batting coach in Iowa) worked with him to accomplish it. He also said Listach and Clines talked almost daily. Ron said that Corey's swing is quicker with his hands high. I think the important thing with Patterson is his patience. If he can get to a hitter's count, then the "quicker" swing that Ron is talking about will help, but I don't think it will do him much good to have a "quicker" swing if he is down 0-2.
  10. Is it not the job of the color guy to "second guess" the manager? The job of the play by play guy is to add to the broadcast...add to the stuff the common public doesn't understand. In this case Stoney was questioning the decision of Baker. All of us and Stoney knew Remlinger was not the guy to put in there. If managers, can't take critizism, they are in the wrong job. Hell, even as a High School football coach, I hear things (mostly from my wife who sits in the stands) wondering what I was doing. The thing is, if anyone questions me, I tell them my reason for doing what I did. Most of the time, it makes sense. In Baker's case, he just got upset. Maybe this is why the Chicago media dislikes him.
  11. I still haven't heard back from Mr. Ehlis. At this point I don't think I will. Anyway, the fastball I am referring to was the first pitch of the game. Take it for what it is worth.
  12. I couldn't go to the game today, I had something pop up, but I was able listen to the 1st inning. Brownlie's first pitch of the game was at 87, but that is the only pitch speed Ehlis (I-Cubs radio announcer) said Brownlie struck a guy out without throwing a fastball. I e-mailed Ehlis to find out how hard he was throwing, but haven't heard anything back yet.
  13. I was able to listen to the first inning of the I-Cubs game today, and in the first inning, the only fastball that Ehlis announced was at 87. He also struck a guy out without throwing a fastball. I have e-mailed Ehlis to find out more, but haven't heard back yet. If anyone can tell me more, that would be great.
  14. I had something come up today, and won't be making the game. I will try to e-mail Ellis and see what I get for a response. Sorry! PS- I am not returning any of the money you sent either :D
  15. CPatt, I guess Lawton hasn't played CF in awhile, but throw Burnitz in CF and Murton in RF.
  16. Didn't Lawton play CF with Pitt? Why not put him in center, Burnitz in right and Murton/Hollandsworth in left. I would rather Hollandsworth play then Macias. But, I would rather have Murton play over Hollandsworth. Just my opinion.
  17. I just watched this movie, and it kind of fits in here. I am with you Scott! D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one. Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! Otter: Germans? Boon: Forget it, he's rolling. Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks hard] Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [runs out, alone; then returns] Bluto: What the (blank) happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my (blank) from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer... Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these (blanks). Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. Bluto: We're just the guys to do it. D-Day: Let's do it. Bluto: LET'S DO IT!
  18. Great post, and great job Reds.
  19. This is a very tough question for me. The reason it is so tough is that I am thinking interim means until the end of the season and not next year. However, interim could turn into next year, so here goes nothing. For the rest of the year: Rothschild/Pole I wouldn't mind seeing Little but I think he would be a candidate for a long term spot. Who I would not like to see for the rest of the year: Dickerson-too good to lose for only 50 games (unless he goes back to AA after the season) Quade- Again, I like him down here in Des Moines-wouldn't like to see him take the job and not come back - See Bruce Kimm Again, the key is if you are looking to fill the spot for only 50 games, or if you are looking to fill the spot for next season as well. As far a Spier...I can't remember who said it (I think it may have been Brenly , but I am not sure) but someone said he may be the best 3rd base coach in the game. Can anyone back me up here, or did I just dream this up?
  20. I can't say I am sad to see him go...but do you remember the strikeout of Giambi against the Yankees last year. If Hendry knew this was coming, I wonder why he didn't try to trade him? I know earlier in the year they almost did, but anything would have been better then this. Is there a way to put him on waivers and see if anyone picks him up?
  21. That is when I pray for a short labor dispute (2 or 3 months) just enough to cancel the World Series, much like 94, and can't make it up. :D Many Sox fans still think they were going to win it all that year. In all seriousness, I would bet on the Sox. A lot of it would depend on the health of the Cards. That being said, since I would bet on the Sox, I would also have to cheer for the Sox as well. It would be stupid to bet on the team you don't want to win if you really dislike both teams. By the way...don't Cards fan want to lose so the new stadium stays on track? :D
  22. If everyone would send me a $1, I might even get to sit in the expensive seats!!! And if everyone sends me $1, I could drink for free for a long, long time. I might even have to buy ABuck a beer. However, that could make for a rough football camp with the elementary kids. :?
  23. Yeah, I just saw that as well. I guess, if I must, take one for the team and have to go to the game on Sunday. I have a football camp at 3, but the game is at 1, so I should be able to go. If I do, I will be happy to give everyone a report. Let's hope the rumor is true and he is hitting the mid 90's.
  24. Does anyone know for sure if he will get another start? I would be happy to go to the game and see what the radar gun says. With high school football ready to start (coaching not playing) I haven't been down to a game lately. Add the fact that they have been away for the last 2 weeks. If he started on the 2nd, he would be scheduled to start again on the 7th (not counting off days and other things like that).
  25. Wow!!! We could have at least offered Patterson (a young CF)-Maddux (I know he has a no trade clause, but I am being sarcastic so I don't care) and Remlinger. Patterson-Remmy-Maddux or Loften-Padilla-Urbina By the way, I have always thought Burroughs woud be a decent major league player. What has been his problem?
