  1. The seeds for the present-day Cardinal fanbase were sown back when KMOX was to the Cards what WGN and WTBS are to the Cubs and Braves. Back in the day, the Cards were the westernmost team, and the western states became Cardinal Country by default thanks to the blowtorch that was/is 1120 AM. The fanbase is still big, but you don't see many new Card fans being minted outside of their market these days. It's mainly a generation-to-generation thing within families at this point. Oh yeah, the Sox have historically had terrible radio/TV distribution. Thank God.
  2. Those stats are pretty. The emotional scars I incurred while watching his garbage pitching are ugly. The man ruined 2004, plain and simple. If you had a brain tumor and when you went in for the operation the hospital administrations ordered a pediotrist to perform the operation instead of a neurosurgeon and it killed you, who would be to blame, the podiatrist or the hospital admin? Hawkins was never meant to be a closer, and for good reason. Baker and injuries ruined 2004, and Baker is doing his best to ruin 2005. Hawkins sucked, but he sucked at a job he should never have been doing, and that is not his fault. Blaming him is easy, but the real problem is bigger than he is. I'm a Dustybuster all the way. But Hawkins was the one throwing meatballs in crucial situations. I think the surgery comparison is a stretch.

  4. Cubs lead by 22 runs this season. They also have a BA that is .018 above the D-backs and a SLG that is .038 above. The D-Backs have a slight (.002) advantage in OBP. I'd say the Cubs offense is better. You know what I don't get? We are ahead of the White Sox in OBP, SLG, and BA, but they have seriously outscored us. What's up with that? Demonic intervention.
  5. That's awesome.

    Macias

Dascenzo and Augie were jokes, mascots for mediocrity on ballclubs built with no real drive to win. I hate that players like Sandberg, Dawson and Grace were saddled with such crap. Macias, when used properly, is actually a legitimate player - something the old midgets never were. The new breed of Cub fan has no patience for that foolishness, and it's an improvement IMHO.
  7. Which would support my theory.... Ooh, race card!
  8. the idiots should be booing dusty like this. seriously how did this idiot ever get a job? They're peas in a pod when it comes to destroying this team.
  9. Somehow I knew Dusty would come up big in the battle of mental midgets ... he's making Felipe look great.
  10. LOL, Dallas was overrated as a tv show. Larry Hagman was better in "I Dream of Jeannie." Sue Ellen's hotter than Jeannie ... Now you're just being argumentative. Hard to believe, but I could really dig a gal in a bikini saying "Ohhhh, yes master!" to me repeatedly. :D
  11. Tucker's a great veteran presence.

  13. What more could they do? Sure, the offense was its usual maddening self in 2004 - but they did on occasion have a lead in the 9th, and he blew said leads in a multitude of games in a close wild card race. Hawkins is not your garden variety scapegoat. For once, the target of all wrath actually had more of a hand in the disaster than most, and is truly deserving of the fans' bile (excepting threats and bigoted remarks, of course.)
  14. I think he rolled his ankle. Has anybody told Baker that Hairston on crutches would be a better option than Jose Freakin' Macias? I wonder if Baker even knows Gerut is a centerfielder. Gerut is coming back from an offseason knee surgery and is still wearing a huge brace. Would it really be a good idea to send him out on a wet field and play center. Thats my guess as why we didnt see him last night in the field. I'm having a harder and harder time understanding why we traded for him in the first place.
  15. You should have seen the tape from last night. Brutal.
  16. God, I wish those s/bs stats would vanish - his garbage almost made me hate the game. Latroy sucked big time. He cost us a shot at October. He's fair game.
