    I absolutely love the Dylan Carlson signing. Still only 27. If he's healthy and not completely washed out, he could be a great story and cheap asset moving forward. An outfield defense of PCA, Carlson, and Alcantara would be among the best defensive outfields in baseball.

    It's right to be cynical of the Mets chances for success, but they've had a really good offseason.

    He might have a gambling problem. He might have a discipline problem. He's got all the tools, but he hasn't put them together consistently.

    The Cubs should walk through the division this year, seriously. At some point the Brewers have to come up Milhouse.

    Give them Shaw. He'll fit right in in South Boston. It's too bad they already traded Teal to the WS. Get Tolle or Early.

    Vitters was a bad draft decision. His numbers in high school were good, not great, and then he got Mono his senior year and didn't even play. I'm not saying he shouldn't have been drafted, but maybe not in the 1st round. But we all have guys we dream on. Tyler Colvin was another guy who I thought was going to be an everyday player, and he never made it.

    I get what you are saying, but Prior sort of doesn't count for this one. Dusty killed him, and then that 2nd baseman made sure he stayed dead. I was at the game where he got hit in the elbow. You could hear the smack from the bleachers.

    We are sort of in a bit of a lull until Spring Training starts, and arguing gets tiresome, so let's all share the hopes that were dashed over the years for Cubs prospects. I'm going to give my top 3. You don't have to limit it to prospects who got a cup of coffee in MLB. #1- Matt Murton- He came with Nomar in the great Hendry trade that didn't work (but one of the best NSBB threads ever). I still believe he never got a full shot with the Cubs. He was a line-drive hitter with good patience and little power, who could only play LF. Anyway, he went on to have a great career in Japan. #2- Chris Morel - What a wonderful story, and apparently a great kid. He couldn't play defense and couldn't hit enough to stick as a DH. Now he's in Japan. #3- Arismendy Alcántara - I was hoping for this kid hard. He had all the physical tools, but couldn't put them together. I'm sure there are others, but those three really stand out to me.

    SP are creatures of habit; all a staff would need to do is develop a different habit. If I were a starter, I'd love a 6-man rotation, but a lot of these guys are brain dead neanderthals who want to be tough or whatever machoism you want to use. The hardest part would be the sales pitch. For a team with aspirations of a World Series, it makes so much sense to limit regular-season innings. If they can do it without sacrificing quality, it's something they might want to try.

    When everyone can pay the players, the field gets level. No more used car dealership owners handing out wads of cash.

    I love a good conspiracy theory, if it benefits the Cubs, that's great too. I would assume that teams looking would do "due diligence".

    WMU, last year's national hockey champion, is ranked 3rd now and has won 7 straight games against ranked opponents. This is unprecedented for a regional university. They have a great coach. I'm wondering if college coaches hop into the pro ranks, because Pat Ferschweiler, should be a name to watch if so. However, he's an alumnus of WMU and may just love Kalamazoo.
