  1. The average Yankee fan will love Farnsworth. He is a hulking pitcher who is a little wild and throws gas. Can you imagine what will happen if Veritec goes after A-Rod? Farns will plant him. As long as Torre doesn't abuse him like Dusty did he will be fine. However, Torree has a bad history of going with the hot hand, just like Dusty.
  2. I wonder if he would agree to play CF. If the money and players were right I'd take a shot and see if he would agree to play there. The Cubs already have two guys for 2nd and for far less.
  3. Pretty cool idea if you ask me. Not if you paid $2,000 for seat, want to eat and can't stand the smell of one of those turds. I cannot stand cigars. If I'm paying that kind of money I don't want to have my food ruined by that junk. Sounds cool to me too. You dont go to cigar and martini bar to eat food. Sounds like this bar is only available to club members. Its not like its the only place to eat either for these people, they probably have suites. I bet they are changing it to cigar martini bar because no one ATE there in the first place. I've been there and it is a full size resteraunt with buffets at four corners of the room. The only thing I can think of is that it may be big enough to have a somking section walled off.
  4. Does it have something to do with Jimmy Edmonds and a construction worker? I'm here all week folks. Don't forget to tip your waitreses and bartenders.
  5. See my edited post above. You left out a lot. With Delgado, Manny, Beltran, & Wright they would have about the best middle of the line up in the NL, too. Omar is putting together a very good team.
  6. I don't think the Cubs were ever "officially" in the bidding.

  8. I get that feeling as well. I think he'd be a good utility man. But Dusty hated him, and it's possible they would let him walk. Any chance he gets traded rather than non-tendered? I think so. But I don't know how much value he has after this past year. I also think it is not a good idea to publically out a guy for missing signs like Dusty did last year. It all but says he will not be back. But hey, that's our Cubs.
  9. I agree to an extent. Furcal has a decent history, and with the going rate for SS 8 to 10/year is about right. However, I think the going rate is foolish. I cannot imagine that Furcal will put up that much better numbers than either Neifi (gasp) or Cedeno to warrent paying him that kind of money. See, that is my problem this off-season. Hendry has spent good money upgrading positions that could be filled internally and completely neglected (as far as we know) the one position where there isn't an internal candidate. I'm not saying Howry and Eyre aren't going to be servicable. But IMO the Cubs already have guys that are serviceable. I'm anxiously awaiting the Winter meetings. I hope Hendry can pull a rabbit out of his hat. I hope the Rabbit's name is Bobby.
  10. Those people are probably looking at his K rate. I think he would be a fine placeholder for Pie for the next couple of years. Believe it or not there are people who don't eat, sleep, and breath OBP as the final bastion of baseball batting glory. He's a glorified Bellhorn who puts up 60 XBH, .350 OBP, and 150 Ks. I rest my case, your honor.

  12. My only problem with your post is that I don't think it is Hendry's back up plan. I think it his plan A or close to it. I could live with it too.
  13. They still have Heilman and Looper. I think the bp will be much improved. Omar is putting together a very solid team.
  14. What does BPA mean? best player available
  15. Thanks for the scoup! Do you know anyone in the Giles family? :P
  16. That red headed kid in LF better come out smoking hot right from ST. What is his name again?
  17. If so it will be in Atlanta/Richmond. The Braves signed him a few days ago.
  18. Randel "I never saw a pitch I didn't like" Simon. Man I loved him. He would swing at anything...and make contact.
  19. Quite dramatic. Guess we should disregard the reports of Hendry inquiring about Abreu, but regard the reports that Hendry has no interest in Giles. Nice glass half empty filter. I've not read any rumor where Hendry has made any inquiry about Abreu. All I've read is that Hendry would talk to the Phillies if Abreu becomes available. Could you enlighten us all with your insight?
  20. I am starting to believe more and more that Hendry's plan is to acquire Furcal and have a middle IF of Furcal and Neifi. I'm not real sure what his plan is for Cedeno. He could be trade bait. At the end of the season there was talk of having him play 2nd in Venezula. Thanks to the updates from UBlink, we know he hasn't played an inning there. He is have a good Winter season after a slow start. As for the rest of Hendry's plan, I have no idea. There are rumors about Piere but not much else. The frustrating thing for me is that He doesn't seem to be addressing RF. I am begining to beleive it may become like 3rd base after Santo left. I can't wait for next week. Think of all the great rumors we can have useless debates about.
  21. Why do people rate Pawelek so high? He's only pitched in short season and didn't use all of his pitches? I'm not acusing, I'm asking. It would seem to me that this pick is based on entirely on promise. I wouldn't rank a player at least until a full season of professional baseball.
  22. Because the universe is deterministic it follows then that there must be objective reality. Some just choose to subjectively ignore reality. :jocolor:
  23. Prognosis: Not good.
  24. Please be true... Jones wouldn't be a bad fit in St. Louis. They don't need the same type of player the Cubs do. What kind of players do they need then? Bad players? yes :D In seriousness he is not that bad. but if the money is true that would be a bad contract. Very bad.
