  1. D-Train #2? That's probably jumping the gun a bit. He maybe more closely headed toward Brownlie #2. Are you kidding? His only problem is he cannot stay healthy. That is a big problem to be sure but his velocity is still in the high 90's and his breaking balls are still biting. Guzman is still the Cubs best pitching prospect. And to some it is not even close.
  2. Stay away from cubs.com It will only get you into trouble As opposed to all of the accurate rumors you see posted at NSBB? no as opposed to Aramisfan and m2d bringing crappy rumors to this board. That eyeroll thing is insulting. In case you are interested. It is the same thing as saying I'm a jackass. It's fine if you think it but I don't need to see it.

  4. I feartheboard won't be seeing such optimistic posts for a while
  5. Cut the self-rightious indignation stuff out. Optimism is saying, "I think Hendry has a chance at Abreu" Trolling is saying, "some people have the memory of a goldfish" Which one did you say?
  6. I wouldn't be thrilled but with the pitching the Cubs have that team would be competitive. I want more than that but I can think of far worse outcomes this offseason.
  7. And who signed Hollandsworth? Who sigend Burnitz? This debate is pointless. And was started by asking a pointless question. Hendry should be bashed for the Cubs past seasons. As should MacPhail, Baker, and the players. I cannot understand why one would feel the need to ask such a question given the state of this organization. Unless you are in to trolling a mesage board.
  8. save your time and energy and try not to wonder such things.
  9. Macis had a negative VORP last year (-5.0). If I am not mistaken, that means he was less valuable then his mythical replacement. This in turn, leads me to beleive that Macis provided no value to the Cubs last year
  10. Baseball American has him ranked in the top 5 in the Cubs org. He lead the minors in Ks last year and had a respectable ERA, but is he an "untouchable". Hendry seems to think so. What do you think?
  11. Finally something I can get excited about. "Match maker, match maker, make me a match"
  12. Sub Sing for Dopiark and take out Michaels and I like the deal.
  13. There's a lot of delusion, don't the Phillies want a front line starter for Abreu, they don't need antoher outfielder (Rowand, Burrell, Michaels). I also so someone say to offer Mitre & Nolasco for Dunn in response to that for Kearns which is ridiculous. What they want and what will be offered are two different things. That is why Stark thinks Abreu won't be dealt. No team is going to give a young #1 or #2 for Abreu. He is comming of less then spectacular second half and is aging. Plus he is making a mint. If I'm the Cubs here is what I would do: Eric Patterson/Dope + Pinto/Marshal (pick any two) and I'll pay all of Abreu's salary. That is for starters. I'd also tell them I am willing to listen to ANY counter proposal
  14. like a potatoe Good. Now, who would have liked for Hendry to give Giles a 3/45m contract if that's how much it would have taken to get him away from San Diego? Yes. RF is the Cubs biggest need area and Giles provides everything and in good quantity. I have to believe Petco took away some of his power numbers. But hey, surf's up.
  15. Where is your proof? The only quote that I have read from Hendry that had anything to do with Giles at all was this http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-051116 cubs,1,1236145.story?coll=cs-home-headlines I need proof for saying I think Hendry asked about Giles? Are you serious? you are the one who is saying he did. From everything I've read, seen, and heard Hendry did not pursue Giles this off-season. To my knowledge there is not one story that would suggest he even talked to Giles agent. Meanwhile the newspapers were lousy with Furcal being wined and dined by Hendry. All this after Hendry makes it his business to go out and resign Neifi and Rusch lickity-split. After that it was on to setting the market for medicore relief pitchers. Meanwhile Giles was available the whole time. In each of the aformentioned signings there were corresponding news reports. I'm no Perry Mason but it dosen't take a slueth to surmize that Hendry didn't target Giles. Now you say he did. I say how do you know?

  17. I agree. He seems to have rubbed the wrong people the wrong way since they signed him. Which is why I don't undersdand why the resigned him. Some team is going to get a steady if not spectacular 2nd. I bet auggiedoggy is happy somewhere out there in Cubland :D They resigned him because he was a valuable trading piece to be used later on. I think it is pretty disingenious to say that it is stupid to trade him when you don't even know what he will bring in return. I don't think any player should be untouchable. While I love Walkers offense his defense is not that good and he is horrible in turning the double play and when you give up as many walks as the Cubs pitching staff tends to do it is important to have someone who can spin it at second. auggie doggy that is you.
  18. Your wish came true. Seriously, Barrett is the most underrated Cubs player I've ever watched. Absolutely no one on any message board seems to think he's any good. That is because he is not a good catcher. He is a decent hitter for a catcher though. Behind the plate he sets up too late, he hops around, he has bad footwork, and an inaccurate arm. I can't fault him for his pitch calling as I don't know if he calls the pitches.

  20. You forgot Hendry starts every sentence with "obviously". If it is so frickin obvious then do it. Do it.
  21. What makes you think that if the Cubs got Lugo Cedeno would start at 2nd?
  22. What is a "true" leadoff hitter. Paint a picture for me. Give me some numbers to work with.
  23. If the Cubs trade decent prospects for Slappy color me upset. Crimson red to be exact. And on a side note. Why is Hendry taking every opportunity to dis Walker when he is trying to trade him?
