  1. Nice grab in the hole and nice pick by Lee.
  2. As much as I hate it, I really, really, really, hope Neifi has a good day today. He has to take a few pitches if Pierre is one first, something he didn't do much of last year.
  3. Stone always blamed pitching in Candlestick Park for his shortened pitching career. Because of the weather he always overthrew and had bad mechanics which resluted in arm troubles, which resulted from him throwing in the mid 90s to the high 80s. That is one of the reasons he is so harsh on Wood. He doesn't want Wood to end up like him. I don't know how anyone can claim pitcher abuse by citng two ptichers who either pitched until they were 40 (Flanagan) or 38 (Palmer). Baylor's use of Leiber wasn't abuse as much as it was neglagence. Aside from that incident, I've never seen a pticher go out after a long rain dey on a cold day.
  4. Easy Tim. You don't post here enough anymore and I hate to see you waste them. Don Baylor is to Earl Weaver As Don Knotts is to Arnold Swatzanigar
  5. Yep, really his hitting streak was stopped at 2. I agree. It is like the "Tiger Slam" in goof (yes I know I spelled it wrong)
  6. Personally, I will never get use to Neifi starting. Not today, not tomorrow, not next year when he will be playing out his contract. [lame attempt at Dr. Suess] I do not like Neifi on a field Nor on a sheild hitting second playing second not for one second I do not like Neifi CubinNY I am [/lame attempt at Dr. Suess]
  7. Get well soon, Kerry, Mark, and Wade. We miss you
  8. He has to bat second. Second basemen bat second. Duh?
  9. Mr. Listach, Was it a difficult transition coming back down to the minors to coach after spending time in the majors? I mean, going from Filet Mingon to In-N-Out Burger would be tough. You must really love baseball. Thanks for talking to us, and I hope to get to a game this year. CubinNY (Soon to be CubinTN)
  10. Andy, Jim, & Dusty- End our pain or get out -Sincerely, All Cub fans.
  11. Flanagan and Palmer missed about a combined 80 starts under him and Steve Stone's career ended at 33. The Cubs led the NL in homers in 2002. Baylor came up with Baltimore, but I don't think he is a disciple of Weaver. He spent most of his career in California and NY (Yankees). Under Weaver, Flanagan and Palmer also pitched into their late 30s early 40s. Steve Stone was never a good pticher. He had one good year in 1980 (he did throw 250 innings though). Weaver demanded that his pitchers throw strikes. If they didn't they didn't stay in Baltimore. Throwing strikes, what a concept. And very un-Cub like.
  12. I guess the question is: Do you think Hendry and Dusty can get the Cubs to the next level? That is going to and/or winning a Wordl Series. Having a winning record is nice and all, but the Cubs have never reached above mediocrity during the Hendry/Baker tenure. 88 and 89 wins is not that good. It is not wise to compare what has gone on in the 70s, 80s, and 90s with today. The Cubs were a terrible franchise for a long time. Now they aren't terrible, but medicore. I want more.
  13. The Braves and Yankess haven't won because of stability. The have been stable because they've won. Steinbrenner would have fired the lot of them if they would have lost 2 out 3 WS.
  14. it led to one run. the home runs accounted for four. your point is...? speed is 1/4 important as power??? :D
  15. Given that this is true, it only stands to reason that he would also be good in "clutch" situations as those numbers tend to mirror career numbers.
  16. No kidding. His catching ability is just bad. He sets up too late, he hops around before the pitch, and he has a tendency to lunge instead of block. That said, the Cubs need all the offense they can get. ----------- You are overstating Barrett's weakness. Todd Hundley was bad as a catcher, but Barrett---while he won't be confused with Hank White---is still at least serviceable. No I'm not overstating his weakness. He does all of those things. Notice I never said he wasn't "servicable", whatever that means. He is a well below average defensive catcher. He has bad footwork behind the plate. His release point is too high when he throws to second, plus the other stuff I mentioned. However, it is worth noting he came up a third baseman and was switched to cather rather late in his career.
  17. I think that should be taken with a grain of salt. I have seen one article that state that...an AP wire article, without quotes, and without a byline. considering the state of sports journalism in this country, I wouldn't give it too much weight. BA's take on Willis at the time so if Bienfiest really did insist on Dontrelle, that's more a credit to him than a knock on the Cubs because the foremost experts didn't see anything all that special. as for not wanting to trade him and keep the farm stocked, the Cubs farm system was ridiculously stocked at the time. Willis, Guzman, Mitre, Krawiec, Ryu, Bruback, Smyth, Cruz, Zambrano, Pinto (?), Ferreras, I'm probably missing a couple/few...and they knew they were going to be able to draft Prior at the time of the trade. there were chips to trade to fill a few holes, which was pretty necessary, because that is the type of fanbase we are. At the time of the trade I was living in Miami. I don't know about the wire reports but I heard Loria's son in law state on WQAM radio that the scouts were real high on this Willis kid. At the time he was taking call after call defending the trade. The Marlin fans were furious b/c they saw it as just another salary dump. The most interesting aspect of the trade was Alf. Dale Torbord, son of Jeff Torborg and a professional Wrestler was the strength and conditioning coach for the Marlins. The Marlins were worried about El pupo's (the octopus) off-season "conditioning" so they assigned Torborg to work him out every day. After about the third day Alf started hiding from Dale. At one point Dale had to go and track him down. He was hiding in the stall of the ladies bathroom. Soon after Alf was packaged with Matt.

I believe Noah when he says he is coming back to school. It's not like the guy is in need of money. The college game is so much more exciting, and the co-eds make Gainesville a very hard place to leave. I know there are groupies everywhere, but UF girls are among the best. I think Noah stays at UF, and we draft either Aldridge or Thomas with the Knicks pick. That would be the greatest press conference in the history of sports. Reporter: You are comming off of a national champoinship and you really increased your draft stock. So are you going to enter the draft. Noah: Well, I've given it a lot of thought. And here is how I see it: The NBA isn't going anywhere and I've still got a year to grab all the [ladies] I can. I mean what is a few million dollars compared to the coed at UF. Have you seen the girls here? Man oh man, that stuff is worth more than gold. I intend to get as much as I can, becuase once I turn pro my manwhore days will be over. So I guess I'm staying. So all you ladies I'll be at TGIF tonight from 9-12. Get there early.

I am more of a bandwgn Bulls fan, but don't they have the Knicks first round draft pick? If so, they have a shot at 1, 2 in the draft?
  20. No kidding. His catching ability is just bad. He sets up too late, he hops around before the pitch, and he has a tendency to lunge instead of block. That said, the Cubs need all the offense they can get. -----------
  21. Can't you please rewrite this in English? there you go tanks! problems with the keyboard. Badger, just stop reading my stuff, simple enough?
