Maybe a few years ago. Now it's a stash of injury filler and hangers on. Guys who are prospects don't stay in AAA for long.

Even if you don’t focus on the pull side power, Paredes does not have the slugging potential of Morel. At the current time and likely into the future he is the more complete baseball player. But he’s not what people hoped Morel would become. That would be Manny Machado minus the personality.

Here’s the thing about expected HRs. its nonsense. You cannot take the behavior out of the context in which it occurred. Now, you can say all his power is pull side. That’s ok and maybe true. But it means 0 about what he will do in a Cubs uniform moving forward. The End.

I agree with this. I don’t think this makes Nico more likely to get traded. I think Jed jumped the off-season trade market and has his infield set for next year. They still need to find some slugging though. Now especially.

The Ricketts netted @$56M last year. @$10M/kid. And that’s just the Cubs you can probably add another couple million on the ancillary properties around Wrigley. They will make that or more again this year. Even with the biblical losses (that were greatly offset by tax benefits for years to come) the kid have made $100M each over the last decade and change. But we fans get excited when they go dumpster diving in trades and hope against hope that they are “in” on the next big name FA.

Have you looked at his stats in 100+ major league innings over the last four years? The fact that he was once thought to be a prospect is irrelevant at this point. He’s been worth -1 win in four years with an ERA above 5 and a WHIP above 1.5. It’s at best at swap of guys who were not going to be with organization minus Riviera who can’t hit. I don’t get the liking of the trade. It’s an exchange of fringe talent.

He’s a 27 year old who throws taters. It’s just the kind of move a small market team like the Cubs make who try to turn a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. It’s literally nothing. It’s a move where they cleared some flotsam out of their minor leagues for trash from someone else. They could have waited for the DFA.

Not Cubs related, but a Braves “prospect” Fransisco Vicioso has a stat line of 3IP 0-3 ERA of 66.00 with 26 walks and 6 Ks. He’s hit 4 batters and has 35 WP. Also he’s made three errors. -
I hate to say I don’t think he’s Farve or Rodgers level, but he’s pretty pretty pretty good.

Jed will get hired back in Boston as soon as he gets fired. He does some things well. This result is not intended but is baked into the design as a possible outcome. Jed ant Tommy Boy value similar qualities and are motivated by value, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But if it’s the primary factor things can go sideways.
